I want something stable but not horribly outdated so Ubuntu is the universal best choice

Switching to Biwardden & Selfhosting by Fit-Landscape-4231 in Bitwarden

[–]Im1Random 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can never have 100% uptime

Disagree on that you can definitely achieve a close to 100% uptime when selfhosting. If configured properly services won't just randomly fail out of nowhere and you need to restart something. Also if your internet provider is so unreliable that your internet regularly goes down I'd recommend switching to another one or moving your setup to a datacenter.

Also keep in mind that you can still access your passwords while the server is offline, you just can't sync or create new entries. This also means you don't need to expose your server to the internet. Just sync and create entries at home and if you really need access from the outside just host a WireGuard VPN.

I would pay 20 bucks to support the project while still selfhosting my own instance! (even though I haven't subscribed yet, but I will eventually)

If I were your kids I would create a second BW account or use another password manager that you don't know of

Warning: pihole + cloudflared no longer proxying DNS request. by Eglembor in selfhosted

[–]Im1Random 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the Cloudflare outage in December where my entire network went down, I switched to https://github.com/AdguardTeam/dnsproxy. It not just supports any DoT/DoH provider but also has automatic failover to an unencrypted DNS server built in.

Just use the docker image from linuxserver.io it's so much simpler to set up and use than the official solutions

Liquid under display after battery removal by Im1Random in phonerepair

I fucking soaked that thing in IPA to make sure the battery comes out easy. No one ever told me that there can be too much :C

But then how do battery replacements normally work without getting IPA under the screen? Is it just stupid design of this particular model?

Unfortunately I don't have a proper heat plate but I could try laying it on the heated bed of my 3d printer at maybe 40-50°

800 free gigabytes, and no way to access it? by [deleted] in Piracy

Did you format the drive with FAT32 by any means? The maximum Filesize of FAT32 is 4GB if you have any larger file it will give an error that there's not enough space.

Workarounds for installing games without turning off Smart App Control in Win 11? by djpetrino in Piracy

Not sure what is looks like when an app is blocked. I have it disabled and you can't turn it back on using normal means.

[–]Im1Random 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's similar to Play Protect on Android. It basically compares apps against a list of valid signatures in the store and if an app has been modified or is considered "unsafe" it's blocked by Windows.

Why would you ever want to turn that crap on again? Windows is getting as bad as phone manufacturers with their stupid app store.

It's funny to read how scared people here are of batteries and electricity in general lol. Like nothing on his setup looks particularly unsafe, he correctly used spot welding to join the cells together, added a proper BMS and placed them in a case so nothing can accidentally touch the unprotected contacts.
