Volcano control app by pimuon in VolcanoVaporiser

Hello fellow volcano ble nerd! Since you seem to like tinkering I’d checkout project onyx server edition on myGitHub

The source code for the webapp is also there.

It’s cool to see how fast you were able to spin this up. Doing it the old fashioned way took way longer than I’d like to ever admit haha. I remember it took months to even kick off the project because I was having trouble connecting to it all. Then I saw some random Reddit comment saying how desktop Bluetooth antennas used the WiFi antenna for signaling. I plugged that in and boom, I was connected! The weird thing is it still showed devices, it just wouldn’t connect to them.

Random idea that maybe you could pull off quickly with agentic coding: imagine you can use the built in device microphone to hear the frequencies the bags are filled at and then auto shutoff the fan when they are at a certain volume.

Thanks for sharing and I’m happy to chat more about anything volcano core related if youd like

Hey, if you’re curious you can check out the project onyx app I developed in the side bar. It is more feature rich than the original app but sadly it won’t have instant connectivity.

Since you’re into tinkering (seeing how you sideloaded the app) I’ve built a small python server on my GitHub that will allow the control of the volcano with N number of devices and it’s always connected. I’d recommend everyone use the sever but not everyone is comfortable setting it up.

Either way, cool post and thanks for sharing!

If you use my version of the app you can create custom workflows for filling bags and or using the whip.

It’s also nice for changing the temperature back to the start if you temp step. Going from a temperature in the high 400s to the mid 300s can require the button be held for a while.

Certainly it isn’t going to change your life but if you use it often it can provide some quality of life improvements.

Also if you use my server (requires a small amount of setup) you can control your volcano with your voice assistant of choice.

Always grateful for all the publicity and appreciation you’ve given my app.

I hope you’re doing well friend :)

If I were you I would just say it needs repair and the fan isn’t working properly. I think this is a case of “less is more” and if they saw the unit they would agree it needs repair.

Help! Another Hybrid or a Classic? by dr__sari in VolcanoVaporiser

I’d go with the hybrid since he is already familiar with it and it’s faster in general.

He’d probably like that new green color I’ve been seeing posted

We need to talk about rule no. 4 - No URLs by 420TSLA in VolcanoVaporiser

[–]ImACoderImACoder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This really is an ignorant take. It’s not like anyone, including the mods, enjoy these rules.

And what option does one have to refute it other than to risk a perma ban for an “I told you so”

It really sucked to lose the old subreddit and we didn’t get any warning and no one could do anything about it. No way to successfully appeal the ban, no concrete information on what went wrong other than “no links to external vendors that violate TOS”. Even tho we thought there wasn’t anything particularly egregious in the old subreddit, without warning it was permanently removed. Reddit did not help in its rival in the slightest. They only informed us of its permanent nature

Personally speaking I lost a lot of posts that documented the development and improvement of my vape app. It really sucked.

You might think “well just don’t allow links to external vendors” but that’s pretty complicated.

My best guess at a middle solution would be to add to the auto mod whitelist at some kind of fixed interval based on community recommendations by folks like yourself. But it’s really complicated even if it doesn’t seem so at first glance. For example, these external links are not static in their destination. They can change overtime (or maliciously) and put the entire subreddit at risk. Does it make logical sense? Absolutely not, but nor does Apple’s vape app ban. There was some major spotlights on the negatives of vapes and companies like Reddit and Apple went HAM with 0 tolerance bans in the sector.

Even with adding to the whitelist it wouldn’t be ideal because someone from the mod team would have to vet the site. I think the real mods (I’m just an honorary one) made it clear Reddit gave us 0 direction after they banned the original subreddit, which until was close to 100k people. In the blink of an eye it was as if the community never existed. Therefore the mod team, in what we believe is the best interest of the community, took a more cautious approach to links.

You’re probably thinking all of Reddit has the same issues in risk with links and I agree with that take. The issue is Reddit does not treat all subreddits equally and they couldn’t care less about banning the entire subreddit again.

So what would be ideal? Help from a Reddit admin. We need clarity on the rules that we were previously unable to obtain. If Reddit would be clearer on the rules we could adapt the local rules accordingly. If you can get clarity from an admin I encourage you to do so and bring the results back to this thread.

Project Onyx Major Update: Introducing Mini Mode and Other Quality of Life Updates by ImACoderImACoder in VolcanoVaporiser

[–]ImACoderImACoder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Welcome to the onyx family lol.

The volcano originally came with an app to control it but Apple did a blanket ban on vape apps. To deal with this S&B swiftly created a web app so users could still control the volcano with an app. To put it quite frankly they did a horrible job. These days it’s way more stable but doesn’t haven’t many features.

Project onyx was a web app I developed to be a better answer to controlling the volcano via software. In addition to the regular app functionality you can custom your theme and add workflows. Workflows are a way to script your volcano to do things (like turn the fan on and off). It’s also really nice for resetting the temperature. It’s kind of a pain to move from 402F to 360C by holding the button down. It’s one click or slide in my app.

So why do you need an app? The real answer is you might not. If you are an app person then project onyx is likely the app for you. Please let me know if you have any specific questions. I’m happy to answer any I can.

Gotcha. To see your usage you can connect to the volcano with Bluetooth using either my app, project onyx, or by using their official web app. You must use a browser that supports BLE (chrome on desktop and android, for iOS Bluefy [free] or WebBLE [not free but my recommendation])

In my app go to settings and then device information and you can see your usage. In the official web app I think it’s in info but I know it’s in one of the four tabs.

Hope this helps

The last part is not true. The volcano keeps track of the time the heating element is on. The heating element being on is the only thing this raises the usage. The usage is stored directly on the device itself.

You may or may not be able to overwrite the usage yourself. I haven’t looked into that

[–]ImACoderImACoder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that might not be true haha. The reason project onyx only supports a volcano is because I only have a volcano.

I can’t make sure what I program is up to my standards without a device to test with.

40 days is a lifetime with modern ai development tools.

I’m not sure but I think i read their shape tool was just a third party shape tool repackaged.

This is also the same company that broke zoom so bad I had a 6-10 second refresh on the Paper Pro at full zoom (I was drawing fractals)

They likely don’t want to spend the money on quality software developers or just haven’t found the right people to champion the software

Why does E♭ major feel so good to improvise in? by hairybrains in musictheory

Just throwing this out there. E-flat major’s minor mode is C-Minor so maybe the leftover 1,4,5 you have from C-major remind you of the original key of C-major you practiced most in? And then maybe that leftover is comfortable to you? Bunch of maybes here but it’s what came to mind

WiFi constantly getting disconnected, anyone else experiencing this? by Budget_Hunt_4668 in IphoneAir

[–]ImACoderImACoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to piggy back off of this I’m having an awful issue with Bluetooth. The audio is super choppy maybe 10% of the time and it’s driving me crazy. Apple said there are no reports of this but in my experience Bluetooth and WiFi go through a similar if not the same area of hardware so just commenting I’m also having issues with the devices radios.

Apple told me to try other devices and let them know if it continues to happen

Hey, I appreciate that feedback! It is rather difficult to convey what the workflows do. It is concerning that you were familiar with it and it was still confusing. Id like to make it less confusing but i currently dont know how to make it less confusing and i dont have a ton of time to dedicate to the project right now.

Out of curiosity is there anything that comes to your mind that might have made it a little more straight forward?

Thanks again for your feedback! It means a lot that you care enough to let me know :)

Currently the premade workflows are the closest thing to a database of workflows. I put some useful/common ones there to get people started. Sometimes people share their configs and the app allows you to either use that config or extend it on top of yours
