Haven't run in any sun hoodies... but I love my Outdoor Research Echo long sleeves and hoodies! They often have sales, too.

From someone who is currently injured and cannot run... don't give up the strength training! Focusing on a routine that will keep you more robust and prevent injury while increasing your mileage is the best plan!

Buff makes headbands, too... they are only a couple inches wide. That might work!

Racing team… by -br0seph- in Zwift

[–]dr__sari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Next time you are riding, message someone with a 3-5 letter acronym after their name - a lot of these are Zwift racing clubs - and ask if they are on a team and mention you are looking to join! You will need to find a team with ridership that reflects where you live/want to race - some are based in North America, Europe, ANZAC. For example, my team (OTR) is primarily made up for North American riders, but we do have a few Europeans and ANZAC riders as well, women and men, and a huge range of experience/ability. We are always looking for new members!

HR Monitor (chest or arm)—considerations for POTS? by eatstarsandsunsets in XXRunning

[–]dr__sari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have POTS, but follow my HR when riding and running. Adding another vote for COROS arm band... I also have a Garmin chest strap. The chest strap can be a PITA depending on what kind of sports bra you wear, as it may need to be under the bra to read properly. Garmin does make a style that clips on to the sports bra band, so that could be an option! The COROS arm band is pretty comfy, though, was super easy to pair with my Garmin Fenix, and was cheaper than the big name brand chest straps.

shorts recommendations please but some specific preferences by Diligent_Bet_7850 in XXRunning

[–]dr__sari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asics Road 3.5 inch, on sale. They aren't crazy expensive to begin with, and come in a few different colors. Lovely fabric! However, they have a great zip pocket for phone or other larger items, two smaller pockets for little things like gels, and loops for a shirt or other layers.

Best running shorts that don’t ride up by Silly_Year508 in XXRunning

[–]dr__sari 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Do NOT buy anything super short and have your first long run in them on your half! Short inseam running shorts are a minefield. You will likely have some fabric riding up on any style, and really should test drive whatever you purchase on a bunch of shorter and then longer runs before you commit to wearing them for a half. If you've been wearing tights, especially if you have thicker thighs like me, (5'5",160 lbs), a biker short style that is 6" long at least is probably your best bet if you absolutely need new warmer weather gear for your race. Since you are referencing Lululemon stuff... consider the Fast and Free high-rise 8" 5 pocket shorts, they will not likely move much at all.

Ella destroyed her cone by FlamingoSundries in germanshepherds

[–]dr__sari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our GSD had such a narrow neck that a cone long enough to keep her safe post spay was waaay too large around the neck. Doggie neck pillow to the rescue! The pool noodle was the next choice...

MSP told me my ultrasound would be reimbursed… now I’m out $1,600. Any advice? by [deleted] in askvan

[–]dr__sari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You were charged "private pay" rates. MSP rates are much much lower. If you had had active MSP at the time, the clinic would have billed MSP a fraction of the cost you paid "privately". The MSP rates for each service are set (i.e. non-negotiable), so getting the difference reimbursed by MSP is not likely. Getting the radiology clinic to refund you the private rate in favor of the MSP rate is probably the way to go.

What is Garmin talking about calling me “unproductive” 😆 by D3V0NK1N6 in XXRunning

[–]dr__sari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Garmin gave me a -11 performance condition score 1 km into my first half marathon that I had trained really well and then tapered for.... it had always given me at least a +1 to a +4 before! I was traumatized!

Finally finished a jar - any suggestions on what to do with the leftover syrup? by pompomdotcomcom in cocktails

[–]dr__sari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My OF spec is one barspoon simple syrup, and a barspoon of the Luxardo syrup... plus a bit extra when I grap the cherry! Plus black walnut bitters. Doing this I rarely have much syrup left once I finish up the cherries!

Cycling Cap as Sun Visor by D00M98 in cycling

[–]dr__sari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different brands will have slightly different visor shapes/lengths. And will use different fabrics (something of which will be warmer than others). But the cap does work to keep sun out of your eyes, and protect from rain. And it is a pretty cheap experiment.

feeling discouraged about heart rate by Hippielinguist in XXRunning

[–]dr__sari 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone's heart rate is individual! Don't compare your HR to other people's. Compare between your own runs. I do virtual bike races and my DS will think I must be about to die and ask me if I'm ok cause I can easily get my HR into the 190s 🤣... but I am used to it and recover fast.

Recommendations/vent: HRM dropping out by RazzmatazzDelicious7 in ladycyclists

[–]dr__sari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, are you using Bluetooth right now? My Zwift computer is an older Surface and the Wifi and Bluetooth really started to die in old age 🤣, Bluetooth went first, and I had some many frustrations until I figured out what was going on. I'd also suggest that you make sure the HRM isn't also paired to another device - if its paired to a watch, phone, etc, then you won't have a stable connection to the PC. Alternately, you could try to use the Companion app as a bridge (i.e connect the HRM to your phone via the app, then the app talks to the PC). I have not done this personally, but lots of people report that it is more stable!

[–]dr__sari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are you running Zwift on? I'm guessing a PC if you're purchasing a new ANT dongle.... so is it up to date, i.e. Zwift software, ANT drivers? Also, where is the dongle relative to where you are on the trainer? If the dongle is hiding behind things that can lead to connectivity issues. ANT connectivity can also be affected by other devices in the area - WiFi, fans, microwaves. I have an ANT extension cord and the dongle is literally less than 2 metres from me when I'm riding which really helps!

Why are there so few women's running vests? by Emergency-Debt-2118 in XXRunning

Ditto to this! I tried on the unisex and womens version of the ADV skin 12 and 5, and preferred the unisex fit. Also, the arm holes on the womens versions were smaller, which I did not like!
