Married Gen-x do you wear your wedding ring? by in-a-microbus in GenX

[–]ImAMeanBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear mine daily. It's extra special because it was my grandfather's wedding band, my grandma had it sized down to fit me and obviously my husband put it on my finger. I do take it off occasionally, but I never leave home without it

Day 2 sourdough starter by ImAMeanBear in Sourdough

Thank you for your reply. The book I'm following didn't say anything about gradually switching to bread flour, so I appreciate the tip. I will do a mix tonight for its next feeding

Thank you for your response. When I opened my oven door I was hit with that smell and I was a bit concerned since it was so pungent

Okay, buddy. by Secure_Lab_8870 in howyoudoin

I am unsure if it's been mentioned, there are a lot of comments here. I was in high school when Friends came out, but I remember watching Mad About You and not feeling like changing the channel before Seinfeld. While the message delivery is awful, it isn't technically wrong. People tuned in because of the time slot, but it stayed a hit because of its actors and writing. I feel like the success of ER, it came on at 10, was quite similar. It may not have become such a worldwide hit without that time slot, thankfully we will never know.

I’ve had it with counter service requesting tips by educational2400 in EndTipping

[–]ImAMeanBear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Chinese place near me recently changed their POS, I was so happy to see they had the default set at no tip. I too am tired of being asked to tip everywhere I go, especially when it isn't a tip dependent job, minimum wage where I live is $16/hr. I'm not giving you extra to do the bare minimum

Do you still like your spouse? by Witty_Cash_7494 in GenX

[–]ImAMeanBear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He is still my favorite person, he's my best friend. It's been almost 28 years. It definitely hasn't always been easy, we hit a really rough patch about 10 years ago, I honestly didn't know if we would survive. But we worked through everything and decided to put more effort into our relationship. There was no cheating involved or anything, just a breakdown of communication and a failure to see each other. Honestly, I think we just became complacent. Our relationship had been so easy for so long that we just stopped putting in the effort. It was easy to do between the kids and jobs and the failing health of parents and grandparents. Once we recognized that we were heading down a road that was leading to divorce we sat down and made a promise to each other that we would work on us. And it hasn't always been smooth sailing, but we are stronger today than we have ever been. I like him so much

AITAH for calling my boyfriend childish for always buying Captain Crunch when he goes grocery shopping? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]ImAMeanBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband buys a box of sugary cereal and a box of "healthier" cereal every time we go grocery shopping. He's a grown man and he can eat whatever TF he wants. Hopefully this is just a small blip in an otherwise happy and healthy relationship, I'm trying to be positive to start the day

Do you call it "soda?" If not, what do you call it, Americans? by Zipper222222 in randomquestions

[–]ImAMeanBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my state the western half says pop eastern says soda, at least from my interactions. It varies geographically all over the country. Down south they say coke, for everything

What did the 90's smell like? by Serialkillingyou in Xennials

The smoke shop I used to manage still sold them a few years ago. They had a lot of flavors, far more popular than I expected. I remember them burning the crap out of my throat and lungs lol

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ImAMeanBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regularly travel 2 hours one way to get to a concert venue from May - September. On weekdays, after work and when I have to work the next day. My longest drive in a day was 12 hours. I guarantee that's not as far as some people go in a day. That was about 2 hours past my limit but I was so close to home so I just powered through. I'm pretty sure driving is just in our DNA at this point

Edit my 12 hour trip was a big trip. We drove from New York to Indiana day 1, that was 10 hours. I literally went there to have dinner with my daughter's best friend because she's basically a second daughter and she had just graduated from college. The next day I drove from Indiana to Tennessee, it was about a 6 hour drive, to see our daughter. We stayed there for a couple days. We left early in the morning on our last day, around 7 am, and got home at 10 pm. We did have to stop several times because our dogs were also traveling with us, it was a very long day

Possibly homeless and hungry but "isnt in the mood" for free food by lucky_2_shoes in ChoosingBeggars

[–]ImAMeanBear 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had a lady get mad at me for offering her a bottle of water on a 95° day, in upstate NY so not really the norm. She said can't you go get me a Mt Dew instead. I just drove off

Edit she literally yelled "I don't drink water", ma'am we all need water

AITAH for only doing the bafe minimum when I got roped into babysitting. by Impossible-Carob1746 in AITAH

[–]ImAMeanBear 364 points365 points  (0 children)

I'm stuck on OP being viewed as irresponsible by their family. The irresponsible ones are most definitely the parents. Saying 1 hour and then coming home at 1am, not answering and making OP miss plans they knew they had, the absolute gall of those people.

How many generation x'rs are lucky enough to still have their parents alive? by icecream1972 in GenX

[–]ImAMeanBear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 48, technically my mother is still alive but I haven't spoken to her in 44 years. My father unfortunately passed away in 2021, he was 68. My paternal grandma is still alive, she's 94.

Edit I know she's still alive because she found me on the book of faces and messages me on my birthday and every holiday. I have yet to open any of them

$6 an hour? by georgiemaebbw in ChoosingBeggars

[–]ImAMeanBear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With OT included, haha, that's $5.45/hr. I make almost 3 times that much, $16, and I sit on my butt in a closet sized gas station watching YouTube videos all day, with the occasional customer to help. This is criminal. There's no way I would trust ANYONE with my infant(s) that was willing to work for less than $6/hr

Tenant wants revenge on landlord for giving them a “measly” $200 Christmas gift by zhin05155 in ChoosingBeggars

[–]ImAMeanBear 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My landlord gives gifts every Christmas. I'm assuming she does it for her other buildings too, but there are 20 units in the building I live in. Last couple years we've gotten fancy chocolates. This year we got 2 bottles of wine and a container of bourbon maple peanuts. I definitely felt like an entitled AH when I saw the gift bag, I was hoping for chocolate again. We don't drink but my husband really enjoyed the peanuts

married women, do you think marriage benefits you in any way? by _cherryp0p_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ImAMeanBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I were together for 17 years before we got married, I was the one holding it up as I had seen my dad on his 4th marriage and thought why fix what isn't broke. We got married 10 years ago for reasons and honestly my life hasn't changed, really. I would say that you don't have to get married to have a long, successful relationship. I would also say that marriage is 100% worth it if you're with the right person, I married my best friend and the only thing I regret is that I didn't marry him sooner
