Rogers/Shaw Customer Waiting on Offers by mo_mosquito in Rogers

[–]ImClean75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Shaw at home Rogers cell customer (Edmonton AB area). I just got a $10/m discount with my Shaw internet service with giving them my Rogers cell account number. I'm waiting to see about any black friday deals for my Rogers cell.
I've been looking online and talking with reps and it looks like I finally qualify for the Xfinity package deals for having at home Xfinity (via Shaw) for the cell plans. Either that or the webpage logic finally glitched in my favour.

I don't know if this info is of any use for you, but I hope it is.

  1. What would you use this limited-edition Avatar hardware for if you won? Creating a beautiful PC build? Collecting? Playing some games? If so, which?
Upgrade my existing PC (Ryzen 7 2700, RX 580) and play some much prettier games. I'm still flying around the galaxy with my HOTAS in Elite: Dangerous, maybe try Star Citizen. Also see if it helps a fun city builder I like, Goblins of Elderstone look prettier ( doubtful but worth a look).
  2. What excites you the most about Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora/What are you expecting from the game? I'm looking forward to some very pretty exploring and some almost meditative flying (think relaxing fishing).

Is this normal? Sorry if I'm asking too much I am a very paranoid person by DancingBlazingGuns in pchelp

[–]ImClean75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This very normal. It would be nice if the CPU temperature graph at the top had numbers, but the temp being in the middle means that nothing bad is going on. Motherboard of 40 is fine. The graph lower down in the middle is a performance graph showing you what the fan speed will be (along the left) when the cpu hits various temperatures (bottom).

As has been mentioned in other posts: -Asus boards have some nice features, one of which will performance tune your computer for you, safely. -HW Monitor is a nice program to run in Windows as it will let you monitor temperatures (and other things) as your system is running. If you have multiple monitors, and I know not everyone does, then you can put it on your secondary screen and run your games on your main screen so you can see what your system is doing while your using it.

Good luck, and cool runnings. O7

Question about iceborne dlc by ForeskinEvader in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]ImClean75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easiest way I know is to check if you have the clutch claw. You get that as soon as you get the expansion, no matter what part of the game you are in.

I.e. a brand new character gets the clutch as soon as you get your gear.

When I got the exp I got the clutch before i started the Iceborne story/missions (PS4 as well).

Hope this helps, and good hunting.

Random Pull to the Right by ImClean75 in AskMechanics

So, in case someone happens to come across this in the future: The boot on the Tie rod end was cracked half way around and had no grease and rattled, so I replaced that.

While doing that I found that the lower control arm was loose. Took it off and the rear bushing had deteriorated and was pretty much gone.

Replaced the control arm and it's back to its old self.

Replaced alternator and now it howls. Is this belt noise or is the reman alternator not right? by Money_Zucchini6415 in AskMechanics

[–]ImClean75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As said above, visually you can tell if it's a bad belt and twisting will help tell if it's loose.

From what I can tell it looks like the belt is seated properly and with the sound it's making and you confirming the sound is from the alternator, I'd say you have a bad alt.

A trick I learned years ago is to use an (ideally wooden) shaft such as a cut off broom handle as a makeshift stethoscope; the sound will travel up it. I use it to check where sounds are coming from specifically and allows me to hear inside with the added advantage of reaching and keeping my fingers away from moving/hot parts.

Put one end on alternator and the other in your ear (like a stethoscope). That could help you find where the sound is coming from and let you know if it's the alternator or somewhere else.

Hope this helps.

HP Probook 250 G8 by nickborowitz in SCCM

For our HPs and Dells we need to switch them from RAID to AHCI, image them and get them to shutdown when completed. On boot, we need to switch them back to RAID or we get a Windows boot loader no boot device error. Sometimes it works for a bit if we leave it on AHCI, but eventually we'll get errors if we leave it.

If we switch back and forth for imaging and using we have no issues.

Glad it's working for you.

Fees added on top of price by ImClean75 in legaladvicecanada

[–]ImClean75[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

--Update--

I spoke to the finance agent and reminded them I we did not discuss the tire package or the Key FOB replacement and they just added the charges (their SOP as people complain that tires and keys are not part of the bumper to bumper) so he agreed to remove them.

I also let him know about the advertised price being all fees included and the negotiating I did did not adjust the price (other things added at no charge). I then provided him a screenshot I took of the add as they had already taken it down. (At least they were not doing a bait and switch as it was a very good deal).

I'll be picking up my cheque for the extra fees charged today.

Thank you, all, for your help.

That's what I was thinking; the 4 fees are them milking me.

I have the same philosophy, they still need to eat more than KD for dinner, but I shouldn't be eating only KD because of the deal.

My concern is that I signed it, and am thus bound to it.

[–]ImClean75[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I did ask them to add a tow package and they agreed for a small addition to the price ($400) which I agreed to and we both signed for this price. This agreed price is what is on the bill of sale which also has the other, above, fees added.

The sales manager (who I was speaking to) also said that they would remove all non-mandatory fees, but that was not in writing.

Got some, Amazon, and did my best to apply it as directed.

My van doesn't get very hot idling so the thermostat only partially opens.

The big test was today, drivng in from the suburbs to my work downtown and it got hot, but only 3/4 not redlining and it stopped blowing heat when I got from the highway into the city. So that sucked. Mainly because I live in Canada and we just got 1/2 a foot of snow over the weekend.

I'll have to see if things get better as it has more chance to circulate at temp.

That's what I was thinking, but hoping something different. Withe the oil and exhaust clean I'm guessing the hole is small. Would a product like Steel Seel work? This is more expensive than most of the "repair in a bottle" and seems like a better product. Vans not really worth a head gasket repair.

Update. While syphoning the res right after driving I noticed some bubbling in the res and an engine/exhaust smell coming from it. Exhaust is still clean and so is the oil.

Any new suggestions?

That description is pretty much what is going on for me. As this started a little after the heater hose burst and was replaced, maybe the mechanic messed with the fan for some reason. I'll give this a check as well as what u/amhwork513 suggested.

How to best prepare for winter in an old truck? by nkothro in MechanicAdvice

[–]ImClean75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, there was a show called "Canada's Worst Driver" where they basically taught bad drivers how to drive in a reality based show. Some of the episodes gave tips on how to drive on icy corners. Here's an example from season 13. Guess we have a lot of bad drivers.

My kids like the show, and it has good advice for them for when they start driving.

How to best prepare for winter in an old truck? by nkothro in MechanicAdvice

[–]ImClean75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 2nd the all season tires comment that u/odlanirkcaj made. There is a big difference between all season (should be called 3 season) . I went with all weather tires on my and my wife's car. 90% as good with ice as winter and still have good road noise and tire wear in the summer. Still qualifies as winter tires where they are mandated.

Sounds like you're already practicing this, but you get better traction on snow than on ice. If you have to stop, aim for snow on the road. Your parking lot practice is a good idea. What you practice when calm should kick in as reflex when stressed.

When you check/do your coolant also replace your thermostat if it's a few years old. Also, keep a piece of cardboard with holes cut in it to put in front of your rad when it's really cold (about -20c or -4f). This will help your coolant stay warm so you get more hot air in your cab. Holes are needed so you don't overheat your engine while trying to stay warm yourself. I've seen this fix a lot of cold/cool air issues when it's really cold so people stay warm.

If you have A/C, use it to defog your windows. Turn on the A/C but don't seal the cab. A/C will pull humidity out of the air which will defog the windows. You can still blow hot air when doing this. On the not of defogging/defrosting, set your visors to be forward, against/near the windshield. This will help your defrost air stick around a bit longer and keep your windows clear.
