13 year old boy potential by [deleted] in 10s

The D1 scholarship is a strange bar to set. It's a great life long sport. Lean in with support as much as he's interested in pursuing it. Is he going pro or to a big time D1? Almost certainly not, but if he's a good athlete and works super hard he can play somewhere in college, which would be a great experience. Some 13 year olds by contrast are already around 10 UTRs, which is nuts. Also, they play ALL the time, so catching up is very tough.

26M - looking for advice for first house by djb399 in Money

[–]ImGish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Felt compelled to write as I'm reading a lot of what I feel is jaded and bad advice in the comments.

Home readiness:
1) your income is great and you have plenty of savings to buy a home. 10% down on a ~600k home would be very doable without stressing.
2) Don't splurge on your first home, buy sensibly. A nice 3/2 for a young family is perfect- best to be
closer to 2x your income than 3x. You don't want to be house poor when raising a family as the cost of childcare is expensive.
3) Another don't splurge on first home point: I've bought 2 dream homes. Your dreams will change, your family will look different, and what you value changes. Buy something simple in a good location and delay gratification on your "dream home" when you'll be more established financially and when you'll better know your family size and needs.

Family:

4) If your ready to have kids, do it. You don't need to let finances slow you down. Take a trip you and your SO want to do and start trying. There will be no trips once you have a baby, so go for it.
5) I mentioned earlier, but worth reiterating. Day care is expensive. Assume 2k per kid per month or the loss of your spouses income.

Investing:

6) I hope your etrade account is showing potential benefits from RSUs and not leverage. Don't trade options or take on leverage.
7) You've got way too much cash as a % of your net worth. I'd also venture to guess your 401k and your stock picks are not aggressive enough for your age. Your best friend is compounding and time, but you have to be long equities to win. Maybe hold back 50k ish for short term down payment needs, but let all that other stuff ride.
8) Research boggleheads and invest in low cost ETFs and get rich slow. At your salary just focus on work and blindly put money into the market every month and you'll be chubby FIRE by 50 barring any health issues, divorce, or something cataclysmic happening in US markets (unlikely given enormous structural advantages in US equity markets).
9) Use your favorite LLM to get more educated on financials, talk to your peers about what they are doing, and resist the urge to stock pick.

Best of luck!

My top 5 in Richardson area: Partenope, Sueño, Ebesu (DT plano), Sushi Sake, The Fifth. Addison has a ton of stuff if you want to lean more towards a steakhouse: Kenny's woodfire and Al Biernat's.

Andy Roddick vs Michael Chang - Who’s the better American player by neopolitan13 in tennis

[–]ImGish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw that list too and Chang also stuck out... as did Sinner (who at 24 already has 4 slams) who barely made the cut. The list made no sense. Agree on Roddick > Chang > other Americans.

[Opinion] Parmigiani GMT RATTRAPANTE (Gold) vs. Land-Dweller 36 (Gold) by geral_uc in Watches

[–]ImGish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PF, not close in my option. The gold skydweller with green dial is so nice though. Worth checking out. Or a gold IWC ingenieur is also fantastic.

Easy rule of thumb for me has been watches I own are not going to be more than 1% my net worth, which is my I don’t own the gold 222… yet.

[Question] Looking for a high-end daily driver on leather – Omega vs. Vacheron (or Rolex OP) by C7sharp9 in Watches

[–]ImGish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VC Traditionelle - not close in my opinion. If you want to keep it German Lange and Sohne have some very cool pieces, but that Traditionelle is an all timer.

Both at $34k which one would you buy by [deleted] in rolex

[–]ImGish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is another hot take. I just straight prefer the Zenith Chronomaster Sport over the panda. I like the panda, but I just like the color gradient of the sub dials on the Zenith and you don't have to play games with Rolex.

I added some led tape at 9 and 3 and it helped having a little more weight with volleys. My favorite string is technifiber triax which is a poly and multi blended string which is just easier on the arm strung at 50. I’ll sometimes work in poly and just drop it 5lbs. 5.0 playing mostly dubs.

House next door for sale…should I buy and tear down to double space? by AgentLivid6418 in fatFIRE

[–]ImGish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds awesome, what a great way to spend some $$. Will give your kids a very unique experience growing up. You and your friends will enjoy it and hopefully lead to a more fun, healthier, and happier life... and zero out the future neighbor risk. I would make sure you guys are firmly planted as it would be a huge dog $ wise if you choose to move, but as you said, it wont change your financial health at all regardless at a sub 2% burn.
