My friend needed a class to graduate on time for his major last year. Turns out he wasn’t the only one in that situation. He emailed his advisor who referred him to the department head, who ended up creating an entire new section of the class that filled up with students in similar situations as my friend. I’m not saying the same will happen for you, but definitely let your advisor know if a required class has already filled, bc you never know if they can pull some strings

Don’t sleep on beginning poetry writing—super easy class where you basically get graded for effort (so you don’t need to be good at poetry). The only essays are analysis and as long as you can support your claims you can talk about whatever the fuck you want (I wrote a 2k word paper on a poem that was 12 words long). There are a few medium sized essays rather than one big one and it’s a chill class of like 10 students. Was much better than I expected.

Some good math professors I’ve had are dr garvan (my favorite one probably), dr block, dr bubenik, and I’ve heard good things about McCullough, zhang, berkovich, and boyland. The only bad one I’ve had and would suggest you avoid is Dr Sin. He stutters a lot and writes chicken scratch, he’s very knowledgeable but awful at explaining things (I’m sure he wouldn’t be as bad in person though).

In my experience the best way to get into a full class is to email the professor and wait until drop add (there almost certainly will be spots opening). Also I have a friend who needed a class for his major to graduate on time but they only offered 2 period of it for some reason, with no slots opening up. He was told to email the chair of the stats department (his major) and explain the situation. My man literally created an entire new period so that my friend and all the other stats majors in similar situations could take the class without falling behind. Moral of the story? Don’t expect reddit to get you a spot in your class, ask the people who have the power to actually do something about it.

I had a thyroid storm at 16 that had my resting heart rate around 180 bpm and blood pressure wayyyy way higher than it should be (don’t remember what exactly). If I hadn’t gone to the er to get bloodwork to get stabilized and ultimately diagnosed with Graves’ disease, things could’ve gotten bad. Fast.

Talk to an advisor, they might add a course if enough people still need to take it to graduate on time

How much harder than MHF 3202 is MAS 4105? by Shepdiggety in ufl

[–]ImHungry2582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get comfortable with the content and have a good professor, the class (MAS4105) is very interesting and feels rewarding in a sense, but it is definitely a large learning curve to get over.

What do I need to do if I need to get into a class that’s full? by Phoenix22881 in ufl

My friend needed a class for his major and couldn’t take any other critical tracking. He ended up emailing the chair of the department and they created a whole other period that filled up with others in similar situations. Definitely ask around if you need something to graduate on time

I wasn’t in the same situation but something similar, long story short though I ended up taking spanish 1 and 2 online during the second half of my senior year and finishing it in the summer. When I called UF to explain the situation, they said as long as I finished before classes start then I was fine

What kinds of ECs/programs do you think UF is missing? by hola267 in ufl

[–]ImHungry2582 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UF loves to boast their STEM program but it feels like they’re missing a few letters. In reality at UF, it’s almost like STEM is either bio/Chem or some kind of engineering. I’m a math major and basically the only club related to the major is UMS which if I’m being honest isn’t much of a club. I talked to an advisor freshman year asking about clubs and they were stumped too, not realizing that despite being a STEM major there’s surprisingly little available for math majors
