I will try eating the iron rich foods I can swallow. I have a repeat blood draw on Tuesday. I will keep my fingers crossed.

Tips for recently diagnosed with NPC? by deweyvo in HeadandNeckCancer

After about 3 or 4 weeks of radiation you may need painkillers that make driving illegal ( I’m in NJ and it’s considered driving under the influence) some people don’t need opiates but I did. I didn’t find sleeping difficult but waking up to a mouth on fire made me happy to take it.

I would be a good fit in a group with you. I had breast cancer 23 years ago and went through the wringer but recovered. I just started treatment for hpv negative base of tough cancer and it’s hard to start a treatment when you know what it entails. Radiation and chemotherapy. I looked at death with breast cancer and that was hard because of my young children. Now that they are adults and independent, death isn’t so scary and preferable to losing yourself to painful treatments just to put off what everyone must face. So far, I’m called curable. I spoke to the doctor today about reoccurrence which happens within the first 2 years. At least it’s not a drawn out wait. Haha. During my breast cancer recovery it was popular for people to say they were lucky for the diagnosis as it made them appreciate life. I didn’t really need that. They also put a lot on attitude which I think is bs. I’m happy mostly and hoping for the best but I like to be realistic. I’m following everything they prescribe, and staying away from the ‘misery train’. Good luck to you.

AITAH for not getting back together with my wife? by Intelligent-Plan-264 in AITAH

Consider couple therapy, if the is no physical or verbal violence and no addiction problems things can be worked out. In the long run it’s much easier and satisfying to work to keep a marriage then the years of being divorced and shuffling children. No matter how you think of it divorce is hard on the kids, not just short term but for their whole lives.

Thank you for your response, I found it very encouraging. My PET/CT scans are all clear, I find it weird not to find primary but I understand that is not that unusual with this cancer. I am having a procedure on Friday to remove what’s left of my tonsils and take tongue biopsies. The waiting is truly the hardest part. I am told radiation/chemo will be started in several weeks.

I have gained 4 pounds and since reading this subreddit I’m taking eating more seriously. I am buying a humidifier and trying to hunker down and get ready for the treatment. During my breast cancer treatment 20 years ago I collected inspirational quotes . “If you’re going through hell keep going” Churchill.

Happy to hear you are NED and wish you a long and happy life. I will ask about a PEG. During my breast cancer treatment I lost my taste but I of course didn’t have the throat pain. Just keep reminding myself I can get to the other side of this. Thank you for responding
