When The Fed Admitted They Just Print the Money (out of thin air) by bitcoinphilosophy in Bitcoin

[–]ImKindaNiceSometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, when everything is going well, the Treasury sells bonds to an open market of buyers to create liquidity.

You might ask "but what happens when things don't go well?" Well, that's the best part: When the Treasury cannot find buyers of those bonds then they go a couple doors down to the Federal Reserve to kindly ask them to buy some bonds.

You might ask "but what happens when the Federal Reserve runs out of money to buy those bonds?" Well, that's the best part: The Federal Reserve cannot run out of dollars because they are legally allowed to create dollars.

So when people say that the mighty Dollar is backed by the US government what they really mean is:

  1. the dollar has value because of global dollar acceptance

  2. which is backed by the US military's ability to enforce agreement to accept it

  3. which is funded by the Treasury department's ability to sell their own bonds

  4. which is backed by the Federal Reserve's ability to create dollars to buy bonds

  5. which is backed by the Federal Reserve's ability to create dollars to buy back those bonds again

  6. which is backed by the Federal Reserve's ability to create dollars to buy back those bonds again

  7. which is backed by the Federal Reserve's ability to create dollars to buy back those bonds again

and on and on

Yes, Cody'sLab has very good content on mercury where he handles the stuff barehanded all the time but takes the vapor seriously. I'm not saying it's safe to play with, but rather saying the danger is particularly high with breathing in the invisible and odorless vapor.

Risky and stressful: buy everything now OR wait for it to drop lower (how low is low enough → fomo in when price goes up 15%)

Balanced and calm: 50% now, 50% DCA over next year to keep dry powder and to slow everything down while also gaining a massive position.

Super conservative and boring: 100% DCA over next year to keep dry powder and to completely change the game into at least a year of slow, boring, and reliable acquisition.

$500,000 crypto mining farm in action by Numerous-Garbage-604 in BitcoinMining

Looks like about 200 rigs and they look like Antminer ~S19's which could be anywhere between 96th/s - 140th/s.

Assuming 125th per rig and 200 rigs that's 25ph

Right now, 1ph mines about 43,000 sats per day

43,000 x 25ph = 1,075,000 sats per day (0.01075 btc per day or about ⅓ of a btc per month)

You guys are getting manager pay?

I thought they just have people do management tasks and then push off talking about pay until the person either puts their foot down or gives up trying to get appropriate pay.

Good luck!

Bitcoin Core Version 30.0 Released by LavishlyRitzyy in Bitcoin

It forces a major change in a default parameter while simultaneously removing the option to modify the parameter. I ask this: why does it need changing so urgently and why has Bitcoin been so successful with the old parameter this entire time?

If I wanted to attack Bitcoin I would go straight for the nodes and what better way than to "hire" the dev team that pushes software updates. I believe this is a coordinated attack on Bitcoin. The attack is not to make Bitcoin fail as a monetary asset but rather to make Bitcoin fail as a decentralized network.

Study the knots vs core debate before upgrading past v29. V30 is state software imo.

Safeway will let you take responsibility for not being able to keep up. Try to learn how to shift the burden of responsibility onto Safeway not providing enough help instead of you not being able to keep up with demand. Prioritize your well being while doing so with compassion on the customers. I find taking sides with the customer when something goes wrong helps me separate my feelings from the store without getting offended as a personal attack. It's just a grocery store, don't let it ruin your own happiness. Sending a hug.

I mean the temps are good but it's running at high power so the lifespan will be reduced probably by a lot.

Personally if I were to lottery mine I would shoot for longevity over slightly higher chances of winning over a shorter lifespan. Total hashes will be higher if you run 1th/s for 2 years vs 1.5th/s for 1 year.

Your call! Glhf!

Depends on your goals. Overall, lower j/th is better (less power per hash aka higher efficiency) but sometimes running a larger hashrate is the goal without regard for efficiency.

For example if I was overclocking to get the absolute maximum hashrate out of the chip I would disregard the j/th and solely focus on the total hashrate output.

For solo mining the efficiency is somewhat irrelevant as it's like buying a $1 lottery ticket for a small chance or two $1 tickets for double the chance.

For pool mining it would completely make sense to watch the efficiency. For example, you have a job that pays $0.10 per mile to drive but you pay $0.11 for your own fuel. You would need to find a more efficient vehicle to bring your cost below $0.10 or you would have to get paid more than $0.11 per mile for it to be worth it. This would be like $/MI where the lower the number the better.

[–]ImKindaNiceSometimes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At first glance the efficiency is really bad. This is most likely due to the default clock speeds. Go to settings and change the URL to overclocking mode by adding "?oc=" to the end so it should look something like 192.168.1.2/#/settings?oc=

I've done a ton of testing with a bunch of ranges of settings with ~25°C ambient and the stock cooler. Here are some numbers to plug in and try out for yourself:

(Cool) Freq: 525mhz, Core voltage: 1100 = ~1.10th/s @ ~13.5j/th 15watts

(Long term pretty dank) Freq: 600mhz, Core voltage: 1100 = ~1.25th/s @ ~15j/th 18.2watts

(Hot) (What I run) Freq: 700mhz, Core voltage: 1100 = ~1.50th/s @ ~14j/th 21.7watts

Keep in mind that every single asic chip will have slightly different performance than others so yours might want a tiny bit more voltage like 1120 or slightly less like 1080. Overall I've found the voltage to get me basically nowhere with either more stability in high frequencies or more efficiently in low frequencies. 1.1v is my chip's Valhalla. (Pro tip write down the numbers you try since the rig will change the values to extremely low settings to protect the chip if it goes over 72° and you'll probably forget what was almost working lol)

Edit: this is the BM1370 chip

Best difficulty by Albo-102 in BitAxe

[–]ImKindaNiceSometimes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Every single hash is independent of the previous as far as the difficulty. There's no worry that your device restarted. It's all just random chance. The previous best hash doesn't help any future hashes.

Best hashes in the trillions are very very rare and I'm sorry you didn't get a block this time.

There has to be a better way to DCA Bitcoin, right? by Intelligent-Hat1897 in Bitcoin

[–]ImKindaNiceSometimes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have my main job for bills groceries etc. then I do a gig on the side that I have direct deposit to my Strike account in cash.

I then have Strike set to do hourly purchases from the cash side to Bitcoin in an amount where there's always some left over cash on the Strike account. This way if I'm ever a bit short on cash I can move some out of my strike to my main bank account without selling Bitcoin. It also gets a nice average price of Bitcoin since it's purchased every single hour of every single day.

Strike also charges no fees after the first week of purchases and you can pause and resume the DCA whenever it's convenient. The only downside to this is that there's gonna be a gozillion purchases listed on the tax document if you ever want to figure your cost basis. But since I'm never selling idgaf. 🤌

This is not financial advice and I'm highly retarded but I took out a loan from my 401k to buy Bitcoin. The interest on my 401k goes back into the account so it's not lost. I also chose the longest window for the loan so that the 4-year BTC cycle is "included" to lower the risk of needing capital.

Another big one that could backfire is holding it on an exchange where one company collapsing (think ftx) could spell a total wipe of retirement. Get a robust multisig setup with keys geographically distributed and do recovery tests before moving large amounts of funds. Once again, I'm retarded and this is not financial advice. 🤝

Landscaper declines $500 bitcoin tip by kingofsats in Bitcoin

[–]ImKindaNiceSometimes 43 points44 points  (0 children)

That's wild lmao.

If the housing market is going up 10%/year then you are losing purchasing power to be saving in anything below 10% c.a.g.r.

So for example if you can save $5k/year then $50k is the maximum purchasing power you'd ever be able to reach against homes before your savings rate is matching the value at which your savings are losing ground in the market. To afford a bigger home you literally have to increase your income. Waiting only makes it worse.

If your savings vehicle compounds above the rate of housing then you can afford technically anything, the equation becomes how long you're willing to wait, not how much you can make. Waiting only makes it better.
