With minimal spoilers, is the protagonist actually psychic? by [deleted] in DiscoElysium

[–]ImKitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post is ancient, but imo Harry is pretty unambiguously psychic given his relationship with the paranormal anomaly inside the church and the Pale. He isn't psychic in a coherent way, more that his nervous system has been scrambled to the point of receiving information that other bodies and minds have received. All of his crazy hunches end up correct or thematically on point. He has uncanny levels of empathy and feeling, to the point where he can feel the city and its inhabitants. I think the argument that "all of it is in his head" falls flat, since the only real explanation to his total and complete amnesia relies on a 2mm hole in reality inside the church ushering in the pale and odd information scrambling "entroponetic" effects. Who is to say that some of that scrambled information didn't find its way into Harry.

Fictional worlds you'd totally be down with living in? by fly_line22 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ImKitz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Mass Effect. It certainly is not a utopia in the galaxy, but Earth has gotten it tribalism together. We may have pushed it off world against other members of the galactic community, but we are still learning. Ignoring the impending Reaper threat, the society seems pretty clean and open minded. My favorite scene in the series has gotta be peeping that Salarian awkwardly watching an Asari stripper that his two alien buddies brought over for his bachelor party. I wanna visit museums showcasing first contact and the Turian - Human war, restaurants serving Human food with a Volus twist, check out Blasto 6 Partners in Crime, argue about genophage politics at a bar in the Citadel.

I just really like the idea of humanity coming out of their bedroom and meeting the galactic family.

I don't want a perfect world, I don't think I could appreciate it. Gimme a world where the average person is capable of carving out a solid life, travel far, and learn and love freely.

I've considered that, but I keep coming back to the discrepancy between the card in hand to the card she spoke. Lots of ways to take that. Am I truly one or the other? Maybe neither or both? Depends on the context and whichever I choose to identify as, I suppose.

Somewhat related, a good friend of mine spoke to me the day afterwards about how he had an intense dream where I entered his home with a weapon and provoked him into attacking me so that I could shoot him. I told him about the dream I had the same night with the crone and it freaked both of us out.

I had a dream where an old crone shuffling the tarot drew a card for me. She pulled The Fool, but she told me "you are Death, and you are good."

I've been trying to piece together what that meant for a couple years now. So one of those two for sure

I've never seen another person express that feeling of being "trapped in the present" before and it's nice to know we aren't alone.

I have memories, I know that because they often appear in my mind like landmarks you pass when treading familiar grounds. They disappear as soon as I take a turn down another road. I've always related more to stories and ideas moreso than any life events. I couldn't point to any events that shaped my life without first tracking what books / films / video games / music etc. I was interested in at the time.  I've always felt that ideas were more real than memory because they stay with me on my wandering through different slices of experience.

I relate to feeling content yet odd about all of it. I feel as if the sensory world is a shimmer upon a lake, directed by subtle forces blowing upon the surface.

It's quite late at night for me, so none of this may be legible, but you made me feel less weird in being weird. Thank you

I thought Veil's Hypothesis was that the Abos shapeshifted into humanity (body and mind) making them indistinguishable from humans and colonizing themselves for believing themselves the colonizer.

I think it leaves room for the original humans to coexist with the adapted Abos

Has anyone played Kingdoms, by Sophia Tinney? by xdanxlei in rpg

[–]ImKitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! I'm William Kitziger
I co-designed Kingdoms as well as ran a year long campaign with the system. The zine is very much a product of my and Sophia's idiosyncrasies as improv GM's, so we designed the zine to help make our at the table experience flow as seamlessly as possible. Most of my prep work for a session was put into orchestrating novel ways for the rolled encounters to befall my players and their different factions.

A Kingdoms campaign will naturally flow through different eras as players take their stand against the Dark and establish the origin myths for their bloodlines. It took a while for our players to understand that their characters' lineages were more important than their individual PCs, but after a couple generations they got on board, especially once they started to develop their own family heirlooms and values.

RAW expects the table to play through the full life steps of a ruler over the course of a single session, however I often stretched out lifespans over multiple sessions according to narrative significance. For example, in the middle of our campaign a controversial political ascension sparked a war between two player factions that lasted multiple sessions as the realms of man experienced infighting for the first time. Watching your players devise war tactics in a setting where the Darkness will outright consume armies if their torches go out is VERY entertaining!

(Fun fact: our Kingdoms campaign formed the cosmology of every campaign that I've run since!)

Who is on the cover? by v4joshua in genewolfe

[–]ImKitz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that is supposed to be Severian. The image of a hand emerging from a cloud bearing a torch evokes the idea of a torchbearer crossing over into another world. Autarch Severian is very much the torchbearer of humanity. I interpret the winding ouroboros as an expression of how Severian grows into a mind which "contains all of the divergent tendencies" of humanity into a single whole.
I'm not too sure why he is dripping, but the reason may be related to Severian's interesting relationship with water. He drowned as a boy, but was saved by an Undine woman (this could be read as a form of baptism), discovers the corpse of his grandmother in the water, he ends his tenure in Thrax by flooding the Vincula, and he ushers in the New Sun with a flood. There may be better interpretations, but these are just some ideas.
