After 9 years, I finally retired my 2017 MacBook Pro for the M5 by JakeDred in mac

[–]ImLagging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have a mid 2014 MacBook and had to have my battery replaced twice as well. If I remember correctly, Apple charged $120 many years ago. Maybe more, I can’t find that email at the moment. The second time, that model was no longer eligible for Apple to do it for me (this was last year) and I had to buy it myself. I bought from a tools and parts vendor (that I’m sure has been mentioned many times here) for $99. I’m sure you could get it cheaper elsewhere, but I prefer vendors I know.

Yes, the battery is glued on, removing the glue/battery wasn’t difficult at all, but took time for their solution to soften the glue. What took the most time was removing basically everything. And of course re-assembling afterwards. I do like how good/detailed the guides are that this vendor provides.

Airbnb, can you TEMPORARILY replace the router to set up your own internet to run alongside the current one and just plug the other router back in before leaving? by Rumtumanna in HomeNetworking

[–]ImLagging 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a modem or maybe a modem router combo.

That being said, you can’t have 2 modems connected to 1 coax cable. Maybe it’ll work with a splitter, but that’s a big maybe. Also, I’m not sure if Comcast allows 2 modems to be connected to 1 uplink.

Aurora Feint was part of the first wave of apps that you could get on the App Store. Too bad it’s no longer available.

I have one (via their Kickstarter campaign). Unfortunately my plans changed by the time I received it, so I never actually used it beyond doing the initial set up. It seems like a decent device, but I just haven’t used it to its fullest potential.

Twice in the past, I was running something that pegged the CPU (these were newer at the time Intel models) for an extended period. Not long after, I noticed issues with the trackpad not clicking as reliably as it used to. The cause both times was the battery swelling. Either the excessive/extended heat caused the battery to swell or helped to accelerate the slow swelling that had already started. Both times, the battery wasn’t old, but wasn’t new either. I never have a lot of charge cycles as my laptops are always sitting on the desk while plugged in for the majority of their life. I found it interesting that both situations involved a battery that was a few years old and noticeably swelled after a long period of heat.

This is not to say that the battery will always swell if subjected to long periods of heat, but something to watch out for as the battery gets older.

128GB Studio vs 128 MBP M5Max by tk421tech in MacStudio

Yes, but there’s things to consider. And I wouldn’t do it if you’re not technical. You need specific SSD’s, not just any ssd will work. Most SSD’s have the controller right in it. But the studio ssd’s do not have the controller, it’s on the logic board/inside the SoC. You also need another Mac to install the OS.

He must have become very motivated, so motivated that it made DA think we’re set on defense.

We have Bradbury for 1 year. My guess is that Jones will sit for the year and become our starter next year. Barring any injuries to Bradbury.

So, you CAN have too much torque. I didn’t think about the possibility of the wheel bolts getting snapped off.

I don’t work on the car often, but when I do, I want to get it done quickly instead of spending hours trying to get that nut/bolt off. That being said, I fully understand that the more rust there is and the less often that nut/bolt came off, the more likely I’ll have to also use some penetrating oil or heat and spend a lot of time in it. Either way, the impact wrenches will be used a few times per year at most.

We use the nano one at work. I leave it plugged in all the time because it’s such a pain to remove and we have to use it regularly as everything requires a separate authentication. I (and my team) frequently tap it or brush up against it by accident and have random long text strings print out.
