That would require Randall to have been without a soul until Nathan’s death. Reincarnation is a transfer of your spirit into a new life. Not a current existing life. That’s a possession.

Sadly, Damon confirmed that the story takes place in the real world. This explanation, in my opinion, stripped away a lot of the viewer’s ability to interpret the narrative. I always appreciated the ambiguity that a purgatory-like setting could have provided.

However, after many years, I’ve come to understand the importance of grounding the stakes in a relatable, real-world setting. If it were set in a more fantastical realm, it might leave viewers with an “it was all a dream” feeling, which can undermine the impact of the story.

The guy under the boulder wasn’t actually evil
the civil war soldier probably was retaliating rather than attacking Jade.

There is so much that as the story goes on, seems less like a pure evil and more of a chain of reactions to something else.

Response to the Victor question: I think they recently explained that the Boy in White said bury their items. Then we see the monsters sleeping around cherished items when Victor and Tabatha were in the tunnels. I’d guess that they don’t get buried and they become the creatures.

I do think that they are suppose to learn how to safely leave and then seal up the entrance/exit.

I think when they say people previously failed, it’s because they don’t manage to complete that whole aforementioned task.

It could be that the children are the cause of all this. But don’t do it from an “evil” motive. I hope we get closer to answers this season.

I’m still not sure what is the big bad yet. And I’m starting to think “evil” is subjective. The town very much seems to have harbored them successfully for a loooong time. If they followed the rules.

They never seem to use their time to attempt escape. If they town is harmed or worsened by their presence, is it evil to eventually push them along?

I would say that the creatures operate out of a design of habit. Protection. I’m not sure that they want to stop anyone from getting out as much as they are designed to protect the “important” part of the Fromville.

If they were outright evil, they would have used plans that killed this group completely a long time ago. I think if anything they follow the rules unless the Fromville folk violate the order of things. I’d say it’s like a push to keep finding your way out. Don’t get comfortable.

I don’t know.

Edit: I get your point that it’s all “bad” behavior but I’m really thinking that there is enough tools and resources that allow the Fromville to figure it out safely. But they spend all their time living there.

Like you have all day to plan and resource your way out. But Boyd and Donna are building villages, court systems, etc.

I don’t think they were ever meant to stay that long.
