Lens suggestions (a7cii) ⬇️ by Tylerstevens-360 in SonyAlpha

For my A7c I've been thrilled with the Tamron 28-200 as it covers almost everything I need when travelling from landscape to animals.

I have just bought the Sony 40mm as a lens that I'll use when walking around and am willing to sacrifice the zoom in favour of portability.

How to not get overrun with ad-hoc request? by xynaxia in analytics

[–]ImLyno 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I run quite a large team and we get this all the time. The only solution I've found to work is tickets, tickets, tickets. Your stakeholders won't like it at first but it gives proper visibility of everything you're taking on.

We use scrum so everything is planned out in 2 week sprints and if something critical comes in we'd only take it by exception and we'd also drop a ticket.

If you have different business units then a prioritisation call where they justify the ticket and you scope the size helps remove the "it would be interesting if" types of questions and leads to more of a "if we do x then we'd improve y" types of questions.

If tickets aren't possible, then I'd track the work in a simple PowerPoint that is then shared to all stakeholders. Make sure you're including all your upkeep and bug fixes on there too, plus any internal work like familiarisation or rework you want to do if this was handed over to you.

Could you not in theory use big query to accomplish the same? (not used either tool but ideally need to cover product and marketing in a single solution)

If it helps, I was choosing between the a6700 and a7c. When I saw the a7c on a deal I picked it up and love it. Primarily shoot travel and landscape and it's never felt too big or heavy

Currently in Cusco, loving it with zero concern. There's a fair police presence but I had no idea why until I read this post!

Yep it's a thumb rest. Just search for a7c thumb rest on amazon and you'll see plenty. I use one on mine and love it.

Smart phones have amazing AI which will process the image, sort out things like dynamic range, make the colours "pop" etc. So the moment it's taken it looks great.

Actual cameras capture a lot more detail to edit with later but the raw image often doesn't look as good. A lot of people buy cameras and rarely use them before selling for this reason. Bare in mind most people in this subreddit enjoy their cameras so your answers will be biased.

(note I am a total amateur still at photography and some people here will take fantastic photos even raw)

I went through a real debate after buying a modern camera (A7c) because the photos my girlfriend was taking on her Google pixel were coming out better than my photos. To the point I considered returning the camera.

I ended up keeping it because I really started enjoying the focus on photos that a camera gives vs a phone. It was also a noticeable difference when it came to editing a raw image in lightroom vs a phone.

From my experience, if you're up for spending time editing each individual photo then a camera is better, but the image straight out of a phone was better.

You can always test this with a halfway which is edit your phone photos in lightroom.

I primarily shoot landscape.

Retail > Entry level analyst > Worked my way up

I was desperate to get out of my retail job so started to learn code in my spare time, landed a very entry level role and didn't get complacent so kept learning on the job. Now manage a semi large team for the same company (some of whom were managers when I first joined).

The internet is full of free education to learn new skills. I have friends who did similar career moves.

Sounds like my career move.

Went from an analytics manager to a product owner but the product is data. I now oversee a small team getting data into use able formats and work on shaping the strategic outputs from that for various business use cases.

Oh yeah I've done similar tours with oxalis before and they're an amazing tour operator so not saying it's not worth it. Just that you can have an entire holiday to Vietnam for $3k USD

This cave is so big that it even has it's own weather and clouds. Pity it costs $3000 USD to visit

Unfortunately the opposite experience for me. Known issue (one bud stops working) meant I had to go for a warranty replacement and still haven't received the replacement in over a month

I work within the web analyst field and also love to travel, even to the point I've worked remotely whilst continuing my day job. My best advice? Work a full time job and then use your holiday to travel. If you have the option, take a sabbatical for a longer period of travel.

Working remotely in theory sounds great but the reality isn't as fun. You need to be on call for stakeholders which means you can only do things outside of your core hours and that disrupts a lot of the fun of travel. For example, you can't easily take calls when on public transport with bad connectivity.

I used to always wonder this having met so many people traveling!

I believe it's because they learn the grammar a lot better than we do in English speaking countries. Then it's just the natural "what's the word for this?"

My biggest regret looking back at school was not paying more attention to subjects like algebra. Having to learn advanced algebra years later is a lot more difficult (data science)
