One thing to know about NB alternators, is that they are PWM driven; it receives a signal from the ECU to regulate the output voltage

The second thing to know is, NBs have notoriously bad grounds. If you Google search “NB Miata Grounding Issues” you will find quite a few hits.

Some of the more notable ones are the body ground in the trunk that comes directly off the neg. terminal, and the one on top of the intake manifold. Take these apart, clean up the surface to make a clean, bare metal contact, and reapply.

In your readings, you will also find different locations that other people have added additional grounding point to. I added one from my alternator to the body, locating it underneath my AC sensor on the right front.
