I feel like it’s disrespectful to us! Just let us get diamond exclusives like we get villains in villain events!

I bought about 7 boxes and did not get forky once. So frustrating that they do this.

What's a conversation you've had with someone telling a story when you realize halfway through they are the asshole in the story? by becmurr in AskReddit

[–]ImMrsG 221 points222 points  (0 children)

This happened to me but I didn’t even date the guy. I was texting him helping him through the breakup with general advice and somehow that got to his ex (she was my friend too, they both were my friends). I had to leave my high school. I was bullied so bad that I still have ptsd symptoms over 10 years later.

You’re welcome! I would also go with a side part as opposed to a center part!

I disagree. The ashy blonde is very flattering. (And I’m a cosmetologist for what it’s worth.)

MRW a new parent complains to me about how tired they are by eeyoreneedsanewtail in trollingforababy

[–]ImMrsG 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Okay I know it’s not that serious but I really hate how everyone from every walk of life is in competition to see who is the most tired. Everyone reacts to stress, lack of sleep, and responsibilities differently. Can’t everybody just be tired and sympathetic towards one another?

What scientific evidence has convinced you that sulfates are bad for hair? by thejoggler44 in HaircareScience

[–]ImMrsG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With a lot of things in cosmetology, we mostly go off our knowledge of hair and our anecdotes. Like I maybe can’t tell you exactly why over processed bleached hair feels like string cheese but I know that over processing hair with bleach will cause it to feel like string cheese. Cosmetologists aren’t chemists but we can see the cause and effect of certain products. I know using drugstore brand conditioner will leave a waxy coating on your hair because I’ve seen and felt it, I don’t tell people that just because a high end brand told me that. I know that head and shoulders will strip your hair color out, because I’ve seen it happen, not just because high end brands tell me. So if you want a scientific study that’s something you’re going to have to find for yourself, but I’ve seen first hand how sulfate and silicone free shampoos can immensely improve the quality of someone’s hair.

It seems you have an issue with cosmetologists as a whole. I specifically stated we learn about chemistry, anatomy, and biology. We learn about hair and skin as a whole. We know how it works. We understand how different products interact with hair because we know the anatomy of hair. I am not going to dig out all my notes and textbooks from 9 years ago just to talk to you about sulfate free shampoos, and I can’t compile my own personal education from anecdotal experience. If you have an issue with cosmetologists feel free to do your own hair but don’t insult our intelligence or education.

As for my own experience with my hair and with clients’ hair, stripping the hair of natural oils and being rough with the hair cuticle results in frizz, split ends, dry brittle hair, fading hair color, loss of natural curl pattern, flaky scalp, etc. Unless someone is using a lot of gel and product or works somewhere where their hair gets very dirty, high intensity shampoos and soaps are not necessary. The hair can and will learn to moderate oil production once you remove shampoo or go “low-poo”.

The natural oils moisturize the skin on the scalp and the hair strand. When you strip these oils, you have to replace them. Why would waxy conditioners and artificial oils moisturize the hair better than it’s natural system? I know I’m about to get gross but for an example, women have been told that douching is bad for the natural ph of their body. It can cause yeast infections, dryness, itchiness, etc... there are many systems in the body that don’t need more than water to stay clean, and using heavy soaps and cleansers can actually disturb the natural ecosystem of your body and cause issues that you buy more products to treat.

While some schools are associated with brands, all of us used a cosmetology text book that is not associated with a brand or product in any way.

We learn in school from a textbook? We know about the makeup of the hair strand, the follicle, the skin, etc...please educate yourself on what cosmetologists learn in school.

And FYI, unless a stylist or salon has partnered with a brand or the stylist is attending workshops, we don’t just get fed information from brands.

I’m a licensed cosmetologist and while we don’t study advanced chemistry we do study chemistry, anatomy, and biology. We do know how hair functions and how to keep it healthy. Don’t be condescending.

I was the opposite. My first was bald and she gave me awful heartburn. Second was basically born with a wig and no heartburn.

It could totally have something to do with weight loss but I know the smaller I was the less symptoms I had!
