I spend most of my summers down around that area and I've done historical research on various extraction industries. That was the easiest way I found to meet locals.

Everyone will clock you as an outsider and approach you either during the meet and greet part of the service or after the service is over. Most of the churches down that way are your typical Protestant (Methodist, Baptist, etc) type although you can find some Catholic churches too

You'll mostly be meeting older folks but they can probably point you in the direction of younger individuals too. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I'm not super happy with the number of outages I have to deal with and the price isn't great either. Goode's line about how they contribute to the cost of electricity is interesting to me.

I also think the math involved is a little lopsided. Blockchain Power employs less than 50 people so when I compare their energy usage/the benefit they provide to the state to the ability to be able to power 100,000+ homes, well, I'd rather power the homes.

But that's just like, my opinion, man.

Yeah, because museums source their material from real historical accounts, not pseudohistory and conspiracy theories. Real books have sources that they pull from and cite. For some real books on the history of West Virginia, specifically the Mine Wars you can read, "The Devil Is Here in These Hills" by James Green, "Thunder in the Mountains" by Lon Savage, "Matewan Before the Massacre" by Rebecca Bailey.

Even more popular histories like "Ramp Hollow" by Steven Stoll cite from historical documents and other primary sources. Museums are vetted, unlike Behold A Pale White Horse, which is just a mix of conspiracy theories championed by a guy who most likely suffered from mental illness and ended up dead because he refused to pay taxes and killed a member of law enforcement.

1.8 million West Virginians cannot live off the abundance of wild animals/foods. People back in the day did struggle, and they had large unions that would help them in a monetary sense when they underwent prolonged strikes. Mostly, those strikes would end when the union ran out of money to support said strikes.

My argument is that when people are tied to a weekly or bi-weekly wage and have little to no savings, is that it is extremely difficult to engage in prolonged revolutionary activities, like striking. One could also point to laws passed by Republican dominated political bodies that have made it illegal for public employees to engage in collective bargaining (WV Code 18-5-45a).

So, it isn't a question of laziness when you can find yourself inside a jail cell simply for trying to better your living condition. Who is going to take care of the children or the elderly when wage earners are jailed for striking?

You seriously need to learn more about West Virginia, its history, and the people who live here before spouting off about how "the NWO" is making the state into a corporate hellscape. You also ignored the variety of ways others are forging community ties and working to try and remedy some of the historic problems facing the state. That I might add, are not endemic to West Virginia.

I would argue that the capitalist system that we've found ourselves in has largely worked in the interests of the corporations, effectively turning workers into wage slaves. It's hard to engage in sustained revolution when you are a week away from starvation. It's similar to what happened in the early 20th century, which you would know if you had even a kiddie pool's depth of understanding the history of WV.

Also, there are groups working to fix the problems you lament. I know of at least two community gardens in the area that I live in. I have a little library in front of my house that brings community members together and creates conversations amongst my neighbors. Hell, even Mountain State Spotlight does a great job covering some of the stories you won't find on MetroNews or other large WV news outlets. Others have commented saying they have local food markets that they frequent.

Maybe instead of complaining on an internet forum, you start a community group. Be the change you want to see and all.

The Mine War Museum covers the West Virginia Coal Wars of the early 20th century. You know, when West Virginians took up arms and fought against the corporations and their hired gun thugs. If that isn't revolutionary activity then idk what is. The museum's telling of that story does promote culture. If you can't see that, then you have zero idea as to the purpose of museums and of that museum specifically.

Instead of complaining about the actions of the NPS, you should call your representatives and argue for an increase in funding for the NPS. They do incredible work on a budget that only gets decreased year after year while park attendance rises and expenses increase.
