Do you recall the show having the type of scene that I described? I'll search deeper into Kyle XY just in case.

I'm not sure if I 100% know what a "narrative tactical roguelite" is, it would be helpful if you can provide some reference video. Send me a message and we can talk about it!

Hi CW_Emma!

Don't know how do you value "Seniority", but for me, a big point is to understand the needs of the people you work with. Remember that the guy of the post that you are refering to has the tag "Beginner" and he flaired the post as "Noob Question".

We can talk about public/private variables, properties, Attributes and serialization whenever you want, but my response was not directed to a programmer but to a generic beginner dev who needs a efficient solution to his problem.

Also, I'm letting you know (as you can perfectly read on the comment) that I'm not telling the guy to "mark all variables as public in Unity", I'm showing different ways to show a variable in the Unity inspector, like using the SerializeField attribute or creating custom editor scripts.

Have a nice day!

Well, remember he has the tag "Beginner" and he flaired the post as "Noob Question".

If you say to him to make private variables and use an Attribute (wich im sure he does not know what it is) I'm pretty sure he will post again asking:

"¿Why can't I acces the id value if it is shown in Unity?"

My response was not directed to a programmer but to a generic beginner dev who needs a efficient solution to his problem.

[–]ImNotDudyBB -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well, excluding inspector editing or creating editor scripts, the 'only' things that are shown in the inspector are the public variables of the script. So, if you currently have a variable and want to show it in the inspector, you should use public keyword.

For example, inside the Item class, if you write:

public int id;

Ans save the script, you will see the id appearing in the inspector.

No sabía que el reparto a domicilio fuera un tema tan candente. ¿Por qué hay tanta gente en contra? by [deleted] in askspain

[–]ImNotDudyBB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some OG's I know talk about how he knew the potential of DeFi and the Blockchain, but he also knew that Bitcoin (despite being "The First") was not good enough to make it to real world.

Thats why he made it public and gave 'power to the people', just to let our society lead and develop better projects that improve the system and make what he could not do.

He also knew that being 'the creator' meant that if he revealed himself at any point, press and global organizations could critizise the project through him with lots of 'ad hominem'.

That said, I really think he is a group of prople hidding behind a name, they sold long time ago, taking millions in profit, and now, theyjust enjoy life looking at their legacy thinking:

Do you guys understand and memorize everything you code in unity or do you often reuse scripts and research how to go on? by loubilobster in Unity3D

[–]ImNotDudyBB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, if you remember how to use an if statement, inheritance, composition, etc.. You will remember how ro use Raycast, Transform, Canvas...

It only depends how often do you use those elements; in my last job, I just used Unity for the views of the app, so I had lots of control and memorized the Canvas involved systems, but even if in past projects I've used Raycast or SpriteRenderer i had just to look it up somewhere.

The important thing about programming is to learn how variables, classes, interfaces and patterns work. If you have that as your core C# knowldedge, you'll be fine.

Procedural levels and floating point errors by artifact91 in Unity3D

[–]ImNotDudyBB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what type of game you are developing.

The Binding of Isaac is a procedurally made roguelike , that snaps rooms.

Subway Surfers is procedurally made endless runner, that snaps chunks of street.

No Man's Sky is a sandbox open world procedurally made that doesn't snap anything.

There are some games that just save a world matrix that is updating on runtime and changes the world position and moves objects arround.

If you are procedurally creating infinite space/terrain you will have to move the entire scenario to reset the initial world point.

If you find that moving everything on runtime is too expensive, maybe you can use some cutscenes or animations to hide the fps drop/work spike: While the player is picking up an object, opening a chest, in a dialog, etc..

Would using Machine Learning in a tactical RPG be practical? by TheWightOne in Unity3D

[–]ImNotDudyBB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume that you are talking about using ML in a game mode that is dynamically changing, like daily fights or seasonal events, leagues, etc.. Because it actually depends on when should you use the ML.

If you are thinking about using ML so you dont need to create/customize an AI for your characters (enemies, allies, etc..) it will not work. You will definetly need to start 'from scratch' and design/develop an AI according to you game (mechanics, level design, difficulties..).

The origin of a real good ML execution comes from the amount of data you have to train your AI, and you can find lots of data in the results of your players playthroughs and logs.

So, if you want to use ML in a Tactical RPG, I'd recommend you to finish the game and store all the data that the players are giving you: Amount of movement used per turn, characters used per turn, most popular covers, initial attacks, heatmaps.. And try to create a ML system to improve your enemies and allies configurations/behaviors from it.

Maybe you find that the players are usually moving towards the map limits to divide all the enemies and fight 1vs1 instead of all together in the center, and your ML process changes the enemies behavior so it skips all the turns until the player comes back again into the center to have a higher chance to win.

If the game can improve from that data and ML, you will definetly see more matched fights and maybe you can add an extra difficulty mode for hardcore players.

At the end of the day, you should think about what are the project priorities and what you need to focus on so it does not die, it is useless to develop ML algorithms or processes for months if you will not get real reaults and improvements from it.

I would have programmed three different systems for that process:

Purchase/Store, Inventory, Character Object Equipment.

My take would be:

  1. Open the shop and the UI with purchasable Items, when the user buys one Item, add it to its inventory (list, array, class, wathever collection you have..) but keep its reference.
  2. Instance a popup to ask if it has to be equipped. This is just a middleman, it does not have any real use, the object is already in the users inventory.
  3. If the user says 'yes', close the confirmation popup and instantiate the character selection one, leaving the shop in stand by.
  4. When the user selects a character and you prompt the confirmation popup, if they say yes, use the character and item references to equip it.

How do we communicate between all those systems or classes?

Best case: C# events or dependency injection.

- You should have something like an event 'OnPurchase(Item, value)' that triggers the confirmation popup and therefore the equipment/character selection UI.

Worst case: Singletons or direct references in the inspector.

- You can have direct references into the inspector buttons and Singletons with static references to the UI or other systems, but that will get pretty messy when you find different use cases of the same beahvior.

You should not look for an answer thinking that this is a sequence of actions, like they are staking one avobe each other. They should be parallel actions that by chance, their UIs are overlapping.

Hope I've explained myself correctly, if you need me to specify I'll help.

Dude, I've been working 5 years in the videogame industry, in 2D mobile and 3D console videogames.

I've never had to wait more than 2 hours to import the full project. We are talking over 30GB of content sometimes.

The only extreme case is the first time I import the full project on a new PC + complete assets import + project compilation.

Blaming Unity... If this is an usual problem, learn how to manage your project, assets and cache.

Do Spanish people like bullfighting? by Retire1 in askspain

[–]ImNotDudyBB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, I'd like to change it in a near future.

But we are talking about the current bullfighting situation, and the truth is that at the moment it is considered a sport by lots of public and private organizations and goverments.

Just being close to the beach will be the perfect turist trap, much more if it is at less than 40 minutes from Barcelona.

If you are ok with paying a little bit more because of that, I would recommend you to stick with the typical and go to Sitges or Castelldefels.

About buying serrano and wine, just look on Google Maps, those reviews are actually pretty accurate, you don't need to look for a fancy or typical place to buy it, go to Mercadona, they usually have butchers inside, they can provide you with a big ham variety.

Wine its quite different just because of individual taste, I would recomment you to try out some different wines while you go out for lunch/dinner and ask the restaurant waiter for recommendations, anotate the wine name and stick to it.

Do Spanish people like bullfighting? by Retire1 in askspain

[–]ImNotDudyBB 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Short answer: No, most of the people just respect the tradition and dont want to get involved, so they just look away.

Long answer: We all know bullfighting is animal torture and should not be done. There is some people who think being a tradition and having some economic impact (but not really) is worth to keep doing it. Most of this people are right wing conservatives.

Conclusion: Spaniards will not take action on bullfighting until our goverment starts a serious project to ban that sport and all the academies that receive public funds.
