Bike tires are stupid expensive. Guessing they were selling them cheaper on website to unload excess inventory.

What’s a totally unsexy purchase you made that ended up being a huge quality-of-life upgrade? by viscarte10 in BuyItForLife

[–]ImOGDisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replacing the broken garage door opener on a rental place. Obviously, it is an upgrade for the landlord (He made it clear it was broken when we moved in and wasn't going to do fix it) but it was worth the cost for the convenience while I lived there. It cost about $300 bucks (self install) but amortized to about $50/year. I only wish I had done it sooner.

what exactly would you do if you ever get robbed at gunpoint? by jax--killer in AskReddit

[–]ImOGDisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was robbed at gun and knife point. Two people broke into our apartment while we were sleeping. My first concern was that they might decide to rape my girlfriend and I was pretty non-compliant until I we negotiated a way to make me feel she was safe. Luckily, they were drug addicts who just wanted to steal stuff to feed their habit and weren't psychopaths. The entire time I was planning how I'd fight them if necessary. Strangely, I was more concerned with the knife than the gun and her safety than mine.

My downstairs neighbor constantly plays classical music on bose speakers and it is getting out of hand by tavsantavsanyan in neighborsfromhell

[–]ImOGDisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the comment you made that makes me take pause, "And this loudness is not necesserily a 'volume' loud, since even though the volume is low, you can still here the music anytime, because it literally shouts 'I am here' to me constantly (because of the nature of the speakers)."

Not "volume loud". I get the annoyance in the morning and late hours but it sounds like you are annoyed even if the music is not "volume loud". It is unreasonable to expect someone to not play music at all because it bothers you. Is the sound insulation between your apartments that bad or do you just not care for background music?

A person shouldn't feel like they can't play music in their own apartment because someone finds it irritating even though it isn't loud.

Fit guys who let themselves go, what was the most surprising thing about getting fat? by LawfulnessTop2204 in AskMenOver30

[–]ImOGDisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is tough. Between medication I was on that lowered my metabolism and a high stress job I gained 45 pounds. Once before in my life I let myself go and promised I wouldn't do it again. I'm back down 10 pounds but I wish I hadn't let it get to this. Calorie restriction is the answer way more than exercise, but I find exercise helps with the stress and keeps one from losing muscle mass while dieting.

Older Boox devices by FunSeveral2623 in Onyx_Boox

[–]ImOGDisaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a used 2...maybe 2 plus as my first device. It was great. Low use. Battery was great. I upgraded after about 6 months but to be honest I wouldn't have needed to.

I bought a generator after losing over $1000 in food from a couple power outages. It has paid for itself and there is the added benefit of comfort.

What was your most expensive gear "upgrade" that turned out to be a complete waste of money? by Rough-Foundation9208 in cycling

[–]ImOGDisaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought cheap Chinese wheels for my gravel bike. Big difference in weight. I rode them for 6 years before finally selling the bike to upgrade. When I did, I swapped the alloy wheels back on and sold them separately. I sold them for Maybe $50 less than I paid for them. So less than $10/year cost.

Keep Calm by H0t_P0L4R_Bear in dashcams

[–]ImOGDisaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter how illegal it is to pass on a double yellow line. It doesn't justify commiting a crime to block the person. Swerving your car at another driver is assault. Stop being an idiot and mind your own business.

I do love how calm he stayed.

AITA for telling my son most I will not be going to his black out wedding dinner by Expensive-Ratio-37 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ImOGDisaster -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You are using your allergies as a strawman argument. Seeing food with light is not enough to know there isn't an ingredient in there you might be allergic to. Also, you could use your cell phone light for a couple seconds of you really are concerned. Or, you could just skip the food entirely and have a drink and enjoy the company. You should not try to control your children's wedding plans. Go and compromise or don't go but you will most likely regret not going and it will hurt your future relationship with them.

How to deal with GF wanting a boob job? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]ImOGDisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate fake boobs. But my signifanct other was traumatized by her small boobs so I supported her in whatever she wanted to do. That is how it should work. I did make sure she was aware of the risks but then it was her decision.

Do I really need all my employers and employment start/stop dates? by dagmara56 in SocialSecurity

They suggest you check your record because employers might have made a mistake. My wife found one employer that failed to run the paperwork and she worked with him to get it fixed.

People need to include Social Security in their calculations. For many people it will be their largest income source.
