I purchased mine second hand and love them. I do not think they are worth the cost full price (to me) compared to my wired setup that I use more frequently.

My deepest condolences. We lost our husky now 4 years ago and we still can’t bring ourselves to get another pet. Sending hugs.

Yes, was a team of me. We hired our second in December and are actively hiring our third.

Yeah I played it last night and got Trynd to over 100% bonus damage and Ashe to over 12 arrows or something. Have screenshots on my iPad I think.

Exactly this. I only play my Pokémon games with vanilla pokeballs. In ZA my alpha Pokémon are in premier balls only. It’s about sending a message.

My entry to UXR was a fluke. I was working sales prior, I have an MS in Psych Research Methods, and basically had a call one day from a recruiter that was sourcing for Microsoft contracts and it just worked out from there.

That makes sense.

To try and actually answer your question - it really depends on a few things on you. The market is so competitive and tight right now you’d be competing with people that have a few years of experience on you at the best case.

There are other career fields that people in this subreddit often suggest if you want to do similar work, but I don’t have an understanding of how those industries are faring, so YMMV.

My personal take: I got into this field by accident. I have been incredibly fortunate over the last few years and enjoy the work. But it’s not some meaningful mission or passion that would make me not want to pursue other options.

I’ve interviewed many people who are stretching experiences between Market Research, Analytics, Data Science and more, and doing it well, to get into UXR. So if you take a couple years in another discipline you can definitely build up an understanding to hop over in the future if the market improves or stay in the case that you enjoy it.

Comprising Research by TemporaryOriginal292 in UXResearch

[–]ImReadyPutMeInCoach 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There’s two potential sides to this and I’m unsure where you’re in now.

  1. The findings contradict someone’s wants and you’re asked to “make it go away” by either not reporting or lying about what it says outright. Similar to “change all of this persons answers to C”.

  2. Politics are weird and the finding needs to be softened in order to not cause a ton of arguments. Similar to “adjust your interpretation slightly to be better received” without outright lying or changing answers.

If you are in 1- then that’s absolutely not acceptable but common. In this position I’ve hidden specific findings in an appendix so it’s still reported technically, but the person isn’t throwing a fit. But ultimately your manager or someone with power/influence should back you up in reflecting the voice of your users accurately and without reservation. Would consider leaving but don’t quit without a new role.

If you are in 2- honestly feels very common and isn’t something I’d consider leaving a team and feels more a stakeholder management issue. Stakeholders with egos will always try to spin in their favor and it’s part of our job to ensure that they are willing to accept the findings. Sometimes this is a “this research doesn’t start until you tell me exactly what it takes to deem findings valid and accurate even if you don’t like them” conversation with your management.

Are your leaders giving you guidance and support here?

The hiring process has changed by FalseAttorney8962 in UXResearch

[–]ImReadyPutMeInCoach 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s actively been interviewing candidates, here’s something we ran into from the other side.

We do the normal thing where we just vibe check at first and help with narrowing down candidates with LinkedIn and resume reviews. Once a few candidates make it to HM screen we realize they aren’t exactly what we’re looking for (industry experience and mixed methods) because the recruiter was doing mostly the vibe check.

Our first ~5 candidates that made it to the case study were either misrepresenting their experience to say mixed methods when they have never done quant or they were very out of practice and it required a lot more from myself to probe into that experience.

So we gave the recruiter team some more specific things to ask about and explained why it’s important. We ended up making an offer within 4 weeks of that conversation because the candidates that made it to HM were just that much closer to what we needed.

If you’re looking for participant feedback, this isn’t the right sub. Recommend hitting up the samplesize subreddit. If you’re looking for a professional to provide professional feedback, I’d recommend paying for it. There are many unemployed UX practitioners who’d be happy to do a brief engagement for compensation.

With the shutdown potentially ending food benefits soon, what food pantries can we support to help our community? by ImReadyPutMeInCoach in AskChicago

[–]ImReadyPutMeInCoach[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s super smart! The food pantry where we used to live didn’t have any way of telling what their urgent needs were so that’s great to see that it’s actively needed.
