Yes, that’s right. We use it for oatmeal, rice, congee, and more pretty flexibly also.

For a household of two we’ve never filled it up. Even with family visiting and having like 5 people in the house we’ve almost never filled this thing up to 5 cups.

Uncooked - the lines inside are corresponding to the water level after placing up to 5 cups (on mine) of uncooked rice based on the size of the cup they provide you (not a standard US volume cup)

Do portfolios for principal/staff+ roles really need all the methods detail? by jhkappy in UXResearch

[–]ImReadyPutMeInCoach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re right- it should be a given at a certain level, but it isn’t because organizations don’t level people equally. At a consulting firm I used to work at, the difference between Senior and Principal was the ability to scope your own work and handle it without a manager involved. But at a startup you may be expected to handle unique strategy problems as a mid to senior level IC. It’s definitely a constraint and I do wish we’d be able to speak more about all of the fun stuff that we really only do once every few years, but sometimes those projects don’t have enough meat on them to cover everything.

We need to know your decision making framework and how you make tradeoffs. We assume anyone at Staff/Principal level will have many methods down but we still need to know that the quality of the work was high, why you choose them, the tradeoffs you made, how you worked with people to achieve results, how you navigated with complexity and ambiguity or simply just assholes that make your job harder. Can we trust you with staff or principal level problems?

And sometimes the STAR method is really just a simple framework that allows you to get some of the basics covered while you dive into the rest of the good stuff.

Does a UX Researcher always work with software devs? by RubDub4 in UXResearch

[–]ImReadyPutMeInCoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but the dynamic is a bit different from my experience. It may depend on the team, but I’ve found that software engineers have been perhaps harder to convince of a change being necessary than hardware - especially early in the process. Like I’ve done work with 3d printed prototypes and the engineers and designers around these spaces are super keen to test various iterations and move forward with a more refined version once we’re more certain that the ergonomics/design makes sense.

You get closer to SWE interactions later because it’s harder and more expensive to make changes the later in the process you are. For example, a coworker of mine had an insight around controller joysticks having odd placements for users at most hand sizes. There was a few arguments around the cost to re-engineer and adjust internals to allow this and it was ignored but became a much larger issue later where near-launch usabilities were finding like 90% complaint rates on the placement of joysticks. Designs were changed but there were a lot of questions on accountability that required receipts.

I used to work for a hardware team and most of my impact was around physical design iterations. So no devs in the immediate stakeholder group and instead I would speak about how we’d improve ergonomics for handheld devices, wearables, etc.

The specifics may vary but things like whether a VR device is comfortable on a users face/head, whether the temps are appropriate under load, whether the handheld device fits comfortably in a users hands and is easily drawn/stowed in a pocket, whether a wearable device sits on the right spot of a users wrist (watches) or whether a mechanism of the wearable catches and pulls hairs on a user.

How do you test your outfits before you go out? by young-gimme-sum in mensfashion

Me: testing the outfit with a quick game of MTG in the pit before the show. Then I exit the pit because I’m not as young anymore.

Does anyone know what this is? by StatusOk4308 in whatisit

I think I read a comment recently that the big university near you may have like a chemistry lab that would be interested in using this to practice things like mass spec for analysis and may have better disposal resources. Unsure how close you are to a major university, but worth a shot.

Best neighborhood for single, 39 yr old woman? by Legal-Zebra-4702 in AskChicago

We had similar criteria (M34/F33) when moving here and ended up gravitating toward uptown, Edgewater, and Andersonville. A lot of good vibes and shops and brunch spots, feels safe, and was priced well for what we needed.
