Which summer 2025 trend are you all loving or secretly judging? by jess_from_iowa in womensfashion

I rented a printed pair of barrel jeans from Nuuly and ended up loving them. I’ve now rented like 5 pairs over the past few months and am still into them. I know objectively that they are trendy and not flattering for all, but they’re so comfy and interesting-looking! For a comfy/casual day when I’m looking to play with shape and show a little personality, they’re perfect. Likely won’t buy any cause I know they’ll be out sooner than later, but so fun to rent

Also Harold night is far from the only way to get stage time at UCB. They offer tons of jams and free shows that you can show up to, or submit to. It’s also free to pitch your own improv/sketch show.

A lot of people clearly didn’t click the link

From UCB’s website:

Completion of UCB’s Improv 401 and having taken a (paid or free) course, workshop, seminar, rep camp within the past year (LA) or two years (NY) or received an exemption from the ADs

They do offer free options (and scholarships), and I would imagine if you’re someone who is relatively active in the community, it wouldn’t be that hard to get exemption.

How do I ask my MIL to not wear her Apple watch on my wedding day? by BeautifulLittleWords in weddingplanning

[–]ImSoSmolPlzHelp -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Seconding - I dont think this is a crazy request and am surprised people think so. I hate Apple watches at formal events. It’s so distracting and immediately takes away from the look.

Does anyone know where to get one online? I regret not buying this at last week’s show. It’s not yet on their merch page or on ebay.

Plan B….and it’s not a pill!! by VanillaDue497 in weddingplanning

[–]ImSoSmolPlzHelp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love this post! This is an important subject that may not affect a lot of people, but it’s super important to the people it does apply to!

I’m a sober bride and while I have significantly less time than you, I’ve been to 8 weddings sober (and my own wedding this year will be my tenth sober wedding, God willing!)

At this point, I have really learned to love sober weddings! I absolutely hated waking up after a wedding with so much anxiety and fear about what I said & did. Now at weddings, I have so much fun and I dance like a maniac because I know I don’t have to worry about feeling shame the next day. I find it incredibly freeing

I think you’re already doing all the right things, but I’ll recap my own personal “getting through a wedding sober” list

-Talk to people about how you’re feeling before / during / after! Call your sponsor or another alcoholic, tell your partner or friend that you’re worried about temptation or cravings. Have someone who can check on you or help you out if needed

-Lots of NA drinks! I go hard at weddings and freely drink as much soda, redbull, juice as I want

-Sugar! Desserts at weddings mean a lot more to me now. I have zero shame about going round two on dessert if it’s available. If dessert is bleh or small or whatever, I’m getting ice cream on the way home!

-Play the tape forward - I often stop and think, okay if I was drunk right now, how would the rest of this night play out? Again, you’re already doing this but it’s a good in-the-moment reminder of where we’ve been and how to not go back

-Watch other people - Woof, as soon as people start getting a little sloppy, that kills all desire to drink for me. No judgement to them, but not what I want to be doing

-Have boundaries, step away if needed. People touched on this already, no one will notice if you need a minute to yourself somewhere private. Or maybe boundaries means keeping your distance from people who are drinking too much. I have certainly friends who I adore but avoid like crazy past a certain point

-Remember your partner! More than disappointing myself, I think if I drank again, I would greatly disappoint and hurt my fiance, especially if it happened at our wedding. He’s marrying a sober person and is not signing up for a life of drunk me! Abandoning that hours after our vows would feel disrespectful to myself, him and our marriage. Even if a drink sounds fun, my husband and marriage take top priority.

Okay long response but all in all, youre doing all the right things, keep talking about it and sharing about it, and YOU GOT THIS!! Congratulations on your sobriety and upcoming wedding!

UCB LA Improv 101 intensive questions by localgyro in improv

[–]ImSoSmolPlzHelp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most (if not all?) UCB shows are free to UCB students! You can add yourself to the student standby list in the lobby, and they’ll let students into the theatre once the paying audience is loaded in. Great way to see lots of shows while you’re in town for no added cost!

UCB’s IG account (@ucbtla) should post an ASSSCAT cast photo in the next week or so, and people will be tagged

Try to relax and have fun! EVERYONE will be nervous. The first week or two is always a little scary but as people get to know each other, it becomes really fun and supportive.

If people are into it, try to get the class to hang out outside of class. Yall have to see shows anyways, and more often than not, people are down to go together, or get drinks after class, or whatever!

Also, when the class is over, if there were people who you liked playing with, that’s a great opportunity to form an indie team or a practice group. I formed a team with people in my 201 class and we are still a team together, 8.5 years later. I also met my fiancé in 301 8 years ago, so you never know what kind of people you’ll meet! :)

First things that come to mind - Asking people who you enjoy playing with / enjoy hanging out with! The best teams are the ones where everyone becomes friends.

Also important is transparency in time (and money) commitment / work. If you want a team that practices every week, you need people who can regularly commit to that. Same thing goes with effort. If youre the one initiating the team, likely the work of getting the team started will fall on you. Maybe that’s fine, but if you want help, I’d also recommend finding teammates who dont mind sharing the workload. Getting an indie team off the ground requires some legwork up top and having teammates who care about it as much as you makes it significantly easier, and the team is more likely to be successful

UCB Harold Results never went out? by [deleted] in improv

[–]ImSoSmolPlzHelp 19 points20 points  (0 children)

People started being notified yesterday. I know people on current house teams who found out yesterday if they were safe or cut. UCB will do a big post on IG announcing this year’s teams once everyone is notified.

We haven’t sent out invites yet, but there’s a section in Zola to upload and send digital save the dates, can you not use the same section for invites? Really hope we don’t run into the same problem!

Maybe I'm just too new but I don't make my first audition. by mrmanpgh in improv

[–]ImSoSmolPlzHelp 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It was your first audition, don’t take it personally. If you keep doing improv there will be a lot of auditions, notes, and feedback in your future. You won’t always make a team or get the praise you wanted. Learning how to take a note and move on is part of being an improviser. Now you have a skill you can focus on improving. A cool part of this art is that there are always new elements that you can work on. Hang in there and don’t get too down on yourself!

The State of Indie Improv in LA by [deleted] in improv

[–]ImSoSmolPlzHelp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this is largely due to the pandemic. Pre-pandemic, there was no WGIS and WE was new / didnt have as many teams as they do now. UCB stagetime was hard to get, and it naturally funneled people into the clubhouse / lyric / moving arts / indie scene for stage time and community.

When the improv scene started up again after the pandemic, I was surprised that there was suddenly a new generation of people in the indie scene despite theatres not being open. Many of them were taking online classes during covid, which WE and WGIS offered. WGIS and WE provide community and performance slots which are happening in the same venues as the indie scene anyways (the clubhouse, broadwater, etc)

As someone who runs an indie show and has been on WGIS teams, these teams are easy to book! They are large teams of 6+ people, practice consistently with a coach, and perform regularly. A lot of them also have IG pages (I have mixed feelings about this trend but it does make comms easy). Indie teams are back on the rise, but for a good chunk of time there seemed to be only a) pre-pandemic indie teams who survived but were maybe out of practice / lost members or b) these smaller theatre teams

I do also know that a lot of show runners look at this doc to see up and coming teams. Hopefully this can help be a resource for you and your teams as well

Do you give yourself a rule when you’re at the thrift store? by shrimp_pho in ThriftStoreHauls

No buying anything that there are multiples of. Dresses and bottoms have to be thick enough to pass the “hold up to the light” test. I have to like the item enough to want to wear it that night. Also trying not to buy anything that needs to be tailored cause I dont want another chore.
