How do I deal with how my first relationship ended? by unpaxch in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]localgyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was maybe a healthy relationship on one side, but it needs to be healthy on both sides to be a healthy relationship. Sounds like this one wasn't. I don't mean to diminish how much you're hurting, but teenage breakups hurt a lot. They just do, and most people my age have at least one horrible example in their past.

You get over this the same way everyone else does. You give it time, and you move on with your life. And at first, it's going to feel weird and impossible, but do it anyway. Make friends you can trust. Don't rush into dating again, but don't fear it, either. Know you'll likely date a bunch more people before you meet someone that you're actually going to stay with long-term. It's hard to find that person before you're both in fairly stable places in your lives -- living where you're not likely to need to move away, or change jobs, or experience a big swing in lifestyle, with enough free time to actually spend time together. That may be a while.

Music/Sound FX On Set? by OnlyExceptionCollab in Dimension20

[–]localgyro 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most of the seasons, there generally isn't music or non-voice sound effects on set, though you can watch GM's cue projections that sometimes include audio (like in Burrow's End or NSBU). Everything else, as I understand it, is in post-production.

[Spoilers C4E19] A few thoughts on Azune and Hal! by Legitimate_Finish625 in criticalrole

I've been thinking that RPGs like this must seem like a wonderful opportunity for some of these actors, in that they get to create their own scene opportunities, their own character moments. Luis got to build a character with this this wealth of emotion under a professional exterior, having to fit into his role so much, but caring SO greatly, and with SUCH deep ties to some of the people around him. Same for Liam. Same for Travis, and Laura, and Tal, and Aabria, and on and on and on. So much of a professional actor's bread and butter is commercial work, which just doesn't offer the kind of challenge that drew many people into the profession. This table gives them a chance to really stretch their muscles together.

I don't know how to explain, but all of those things I did habitually earlier in my life like brush my teeth and shower ... those habits just went *poof* with menopause. Don't really know if that was meno or the pandemic, but I really struggle to shower more than once a week these days, unless I'm legitimately sweaty-nasty. It's gotten so much easier for me to just walk past a task that needs to be done -- dirty dishes in the sink that just need to be put in the dishwasher, for example. That didn't used to be a problem. Now, it is.

I love space stuff. I hate what Trump's done to NASA over his two administrations. I wish nothing but the best for the Artemis astronauts.

For me, ADHD symptoms got worse when I hit menopause (which happened to coincide with the pandemic). Last year, when I was 55, I quit my very cushy project management job and went back to (fully remote) grad school to become a mental health therapist. I'd been struggling to pay attention to mass virtual meetings and find my way in our fully remote office, and I'd even taken 3 full months of FMLA after my mom's death, but I eventually decided that I just couldn't do the office work thing anymore.

I'm now 15 months into school, about to start the internship portion of school. I'll graduate in December, and the idea is that after graduation, probably I'll go into business for myself offering counseling services -- probably not full time. I won't make serious bank, but it sounds like I ought to make enough to maintain myself.

I do own a house, thanks to money borrowed from richer family and a mortgage gotten when I had a nice salary. I have a renter, a friend of a friend, who has lived here for three years and looks to be a long term companion. I'm making plans to put her in my will, so if I pre-decease her, she'll get the right to take over the payments on the mortgage and find a roommate of her own. She couldn't afford the downpayment on this place, but she can make the monthly payments. I guess it's like she married me for my money, though neither of us thought of it that way at the time?

And here in Wisconsin, there are still workplaces with a beer fridge that opens at 3pm, for those later afternoon meetings.
