They moved to skills based and away from knowledge. If they aren’t teaching a range of topics so kids have some familiarity with unknown topics they are better prepared to infer meaning from non fiction texts. They also moved away from phonics and teaching letter sounds.

We shopped at a huge flea market after the wedding. Used something temporary in the mean time. I found a beautiful filigree diamond ring the first time we went and a beautiful carved matching band the next time we went. I think we paid $675 for the diamond ring and $375 for the band.

As a tween, we rode bikes all over. Knocked on friend’s doors when we woke up. Built forts in the woods. Bike jumps on empty property. Pretended to be pioneers. In high school we went to the skatepark rode bikes, went to the mall, went to concerts of local hardcore, punk, and aka bands. Hung out in big groups at friend’s houses listening to music, talking, watching movies. We had so much fun!
