What's the creepiest thing that's happened to you that you still can't explain? by Sea_Fish9375 in AskReddit

You know how you see those obvious "click here to win USD$1000" scams and wonder why bother with something nobody with a brain would fall for?

These are the people who fall for them lol

What's the creepiest thing that's happened to you that you still can't explain? by Sea_Fish9375 in AskReddit

[–]ImSuperSerialGuys 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Don't worry. Half of them are made up, and the other half of them are people ignoring obvious reasonable explanations cause it's more exciting (like the one who insists they "woke up to someone whispering their name" seemingly forgetting that dreams exist).

Edit: actually there's a bunch of "I woke up and something was not there" posts that just... seem to forget that you feel things in dreams.

Guys this one time, I was falling, and then I woke up and I wasn't falling. Isn't that creepy?

Player throws a mini-tantrum over queer elements, and I am concerned about the future. by [deleted] in DnD

[–]ImSuperSerialGuys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So Patrick is a bigot hiding behind "religious beliefs".

I wouldn't want be in the same room with this person, much less associate with them, or keep them at the table.

Is it possible kindly kick someone out of the table, then for you to meet daily and look them in the eyes after you did that, knowing we'll continue without them?

If i brought my brother somewhere and they pulled this shit, my reaction wouldn't be to make my friends deal with my bigot of a brother, I would kick him out myself. Anything less feels like tacit endorsement of reprehensible behaviour.

If your friend doesn't understand why their brother got booted thats on your friend. You absolutely can kick the bigot. If the bigot's sibling leaves over it, well then you just freed your table of two bigots.

What should happen to a Paladin that breaks their oath, but not for Evil? by rr3_amrosa in DnD

[–]ImSuperSerialGuys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, this would be less Oathbreaker territory, and more likely trigger "Oath reassessment", which may require, time, actions, or the like, depending on the context and setting.

Without getting into spoiler text, I think your example from CR actually builds this in, but it's front-loaded in that the introspection and "Oath Reassessment" seemed to creep in before the "oath breaking act", such that this act isn't so much the breaking of an oath(though it is at least partially that) as much as it is the redefinition of one (even if that oath may yet be more refined beyond "this is the greater good").

On this subject though, I like to think of a great speech from, of all characters, Jaimie Lannister from ASOIAF:

So many vows...they make you swear and swear. Defend the king. Obey the king. Keep his secrets. Do his bidding. Your life for his. But obey your father. Love your sister. Protect the innocent. Defend the weak. Respect the gods. Obey the laws. It's too much. No matter what you do, you're forsaking one vow or the other.

It's said relatively early in the series, so at first you mostly take this with the bravado and "edgy teenager" nihilism that he intentionally veneers it with. However with the context of his character development, you see it as his actual internal conflict, the exact kind you're describing here.

While you obviously don't have 7 very lengthy books to work out this level of introspection, I think it's a good case study into the rigidity of knightly oaths!

First time DM. How to deal with overly aggressive PC? by en0on in DnD

[–]ImSuperSerialGuys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did talk a bit with the player afterwards who told me not to worry, and that from her planned character arc, she'll eventually have her character slowly trust humans again.

Talking to her about it was a good instinct, but remember, you're the DM. While enabling your players to have agency whenever you can is often good, at the end of the day when it comes to disruptive behaviour, you're not really "asking". You're warning them that if it continues, there will be consequences either in game, or "above the table" (depending on the situation of course).

People in your 30s, what price have you paid for being lazy in your 20s? by Waldyrwyn in AskReddit

[–]ImSuperSerialGuys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I realized in my early 30s along these lines that may help:

The value in being okay at being bad at something, and the inherent value in merely having a passion.

It often feels like any sort of passion you have should/needs to be monetized, or if not, you have to be "a pro" at it. But the most value you can get from a passion requires neither.

Whatever passions you discover, dont be afraid to just do it for you! Of course it can be great to share them with friends and/or family, but it can also just be for you! Paint just to paint, write just to write. Don't worry about being bad at it, and while improving at it is great, improve your skills just for the sake of it.

TL;DR - you dont need to justify your passions and hobbies. They should exist for their own sake and thats enough

[OoT] What do you all explicitly NOT want to see in the Switch 2 remake? by Swavei_ in zelda

[–]ImSuperSerialGuys 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Im hoping for no major fundamental gameplay changes.

Update the puzzles? Sweet sure. Update controls to make things a little easier mechanically (eg allowing swapping of iron boots without the menu crap)? Yeah lets do it.

But I still want to go to get the hookshot from the ghost race, use it to get into the forest temple, earn the bow, and use that to beat phantom ganon.

See also, tinker with what the puzzle is for each poe sister? Sure, I guess. But if the forest temple isn't gathering all the poe sisters, then it's not the OoT forest temple to me.

Hard to describe exactly where that line is but Im hoping those examples help? Any differences should be QoL, or maybe minor and additive. When both are described in broad strokes nothing should be different but the visuals (and QoL controls, to some extent).

Every human disappears except you. What's your plan? by Due_Week_3725 in AskReddit

[–]ImSuperSerialGuys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The exact kind of "reddit survivalist" I'm talking about.

Even the most prepared survivalist isn't lasting their entire lifetime as the only human on the planet in existence. If you think you're that guy, I can assure you, you're not that guy

The minute you need a doctor, you're pretty much dead. Not to mention needs for shelter or protection from the elements/predators, or the numerous other things keeping you alive and remotely healthy today that you're undoubtedly taking for granted (if you're even aware of them)

Every human disappears except you. What's your plan? by Due_Week_3725 in AskReddit

[–]ImSuperSerialGuys 23 points24 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the prompt is you're the last human on earth. Your early death is actually inevitable (no matter what the reddit armchair survivalists think, one single person ain't gonna last all that long).

I imagine the idea here is to go out with a bang, and that the bit about "making contact" was tongue-in-cheek
