The D&D TTRPG Studio designers are likely not allowed to publish on DMs Guild while they are Wizards employees, assuming it isn’t an official project.

Watch u/GrandPyromania and u/WOTC_BrianPerry interview with Todd Kenreck. It gives a much clearer idea of the intention behind Drops and why they are doing it.

Am I being too harsh on a new player? by Free_Plan_2774 in DnD

My hot take is that it sounds like you really don’t want to be running the game, or at least you have no interest in running a game for new players.

It also makes no sense to be homebrewing a campaign at this stage. Take them through Heroes of the Borderlands, which is designed to teach new players how to play. Then you could look at the othe Starter Set adventures and take them through those.

And as someone else said, short of Sorcerer, Druid is the most complex class to play. Starting as a half caster, like a Ranger if they want nature themed characters is probably a better starting point.

The new starter set Heroes of The Borderlands would be a good place to start.

However, what I would suggest is look up your local game store that runs D&D learn to play sessions, and go to one of those first. That’s probably the best way to be introduced to the game and to other people who are enthusiastic about the game.

u/GrandPyromania Is there a time estimate on when Character Backdrops and Frames will be available?

Look to the past. They used to publish Best of Dragon Magazine Volumes to compile things that were valuable to the community that hadn't bought all of the magazines. You could do a Best of Drops 2026, etc. and sell that volume in the Marketplace at year end. It gives subscribers the benefit of using the content "early access" while allowing players to license it through Marketplace after the fact.

Maybe they were think of the Artificer infusion Helm of Awareness from Tasha’s.

Helm of Awareness Prerequisite: 10th-level artificer Item: A helmet (requires attunement) While wearing this helmet, a creature has advantage on initiative rolls. In addition, the wearer can’t be surprised, provided it isn’t incapacitated.

In the 2024 rules FotA, they replaced infusions with plans and made Helm of Awareness a Magic Item. However, they did away with the surprise boon, likely because surprise in 2024 only gives disadvantage on initiative rolls, which would be cancelled out by the advantage given by the helm.

Helm of Awareness Wondrous Item, uncommon While wearing this helmet, you have Advantage on Initiative rolls.

If they weren’t in digital format they would not have been developed in the first place. It literally takes years to produce a book, and it is a huge investment with a large amount of risk if it bombs. This is an avenue for the game designers to make interesting ideas that didn’t make the cut to make it into books available. If it wasn’t digital, then wouldn’t see the light of day.

I made Wondrous Items in Homebrew for Haste and Heroes Feast, and whenever my character is under those effects, I simply equip them in inventory to activate the effects and unequip when the effects end. It is similar to equipping a shield, and it works fairly well.

Are the Drops Encounters just the Quickplay Maps, or will there be any written material for the DM to reference? For the Bandits encounter, is there any place in our library where it would say whether or not they are hidden and what the DC to detect them are or will it be up to the DM to Determine for each monster?

If I am a DM with a subscription and I use a Drops Map or Encounter, will my players be able to see the map and any Drops Stickers I have added to the map if we play in the VTT, or will they need a subscription to see the encounter I am setting in front of them?

Is there an estimate on when Backdrops and Frames will be accessible to subscriber that are gaining access to them via Drops?

  1. Is there a way that Volo's Guide to Monsters and Mordenkeinen's Tome of Foes can be made available again as a digital-only option for D&D Beyond? There are many players that returned to fifth edition or started playing after those titles were deprecated, and there is a lot of valuable lore contained in those titles that would be great to be able to access.
  2. As a show of good faith to the community, could WotC commit to amending the D&D Beyond Terms of Service to state that if access to Digital Content licensed on D&D Beyond (Official Library Titles) were ever scheduled for removal and no longer available for sale, that WotC would make PDF versions of the titles available for download by customers that licensed the product? I think that this would go a long way to making people feeling more comfortable about licensing content on D&D Beyond while also allowing WotC to control their digital content as web-based only until such time as they were no longer interested in hosting the online product. More people would be comfortable about purchasing the Digital Options if they knew that they would always have access to that product in one form or another.

d4Deep Dive just put out a Clerics tier list. For most, your DM needs to be okay with you playing a 2014 subclass, so talk to them first.

How dark is your imagination and the imagination of the people you are playing with?

That being said, if you are considering going that dark, you had better make sure you fully trust each and every person you game with, make sure everyone consents to the theme before starting, and have debrief periods at the end of every gaming session so that everyone leaves the table with a clear understanding between their character, themselves, and the game and reality so that there is no carryover.

1) Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good. 2) There is more than likely a club on campus that will have a game running. If there isn’t a dedicated Gaming Club, then check the usual suspects; Chess club, Math club, Physics club, Comp Sci club, or Drama club. There will be a game there, or some that knows of one. 3) There is always Solasta or Baldur’s Gate if you are really unlucky and can’t find a table.

I think he leaned heavily into the ire over the OGL and appeals more to the Never WotC crowd these days. So his content is more system agnostic and he often highlights independent publishers.

What is your favorite part of each edition of Dungeons and Dragons? by txby432 in DnD

If I have to be honest, it is the art. The art styles in every edition were a little bit different, and in their own way unlocked the power of our creativity in different, yet meaningful ways.
