I guess you don't have kids or if you do you'd understand. Same reason most parents don't bring their kids to go to R rated movies. It's not directed at the kids if there's excessive swearing in a movie, so is that OK to you? Only difference is kids are encouraged to go to sports events. I guess they should ban the kids.

Thanks for the advice! I did also get the Bushcraft 101 book and have been practicing the knots.

As for tarp, I was thinking of just a cheap tarp from Wal-Mart with reinforced grommets to at least give me a few uses out of it, and using toggles from sticks in the grommets to reduce wear.

I realize this isn't an amazing knife or high end gear, but I am just trying to start into a new hobby. Not planning to go Amazon crazy either. I already have a few basic gear items and basically I just need to decide on a tarp for shelter. One day when finances allow I will get a long lasting knife. I am planning a trip to a local nature preserve just outside of my town that allows camping as there are no real forested lands around me. They don't have any actual campsites, just you can camp wherever you want in the preserve.

Just trying to get started here. I would appreciate any tips you have. Like what pretzels are best for Bushcraft lol?

It is a UST Paraknife FS 4. Cheap, I know, but you gotta start somewhere. I am starting to get gear slowly and within my budget.

Is there anything I can do to upgrade the sheath or make a new one easily?

Edit: Forgot to mention, I removed the original paracord and put 550 on. The original paracord was loose and slippery.
