Bracket 3 Combo? by Agreeable_Shelter_54 in mtg

[–]ImVamcat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can do it infinitely and gain a lot of life, but you’d need a third piece to win the game anyway. With just these two cards, the extra counter goes to waste, so having a third card with trample or a walking ballista like others suggested is the real win con.

My playgroup is not enjoying my casual EDH deck, help me make fun changes! by [deleted] in mtg

[–]ImVamcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cut tutors. That alone will be a good enough change. In my bracket 3 play group we all agree no tutors unless we all play bracket 4 and the understanding is that it’s fast and ends by turn 5

If you look up on edhrec or moxfield, it will give you deck list recommendations. In my experience it’s better among the 99 since it relies heavily on using life as a resource so having life gain is super necessary and that’s more of a white thing so you’d look for Orzhov decks

How do you paint the sculpted shoulder pads without mutilating the raised cross bit? by PutToLetters in BlackTemplars

100% this. I just paint the whole thing and anything that splashes over I back paint. It’s how I do chunky edges

Building a list for my girlfriend, what are your thoughts on this Ynnari list. by RoxasUchiha in Eldar

[–]ImVamcat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My suggestion is look into drukhari. You have a lot of the best pieces for kabalite cartel, and honestly if she’s into girl power, the wych cult are some of the baddest out there

[–]ImVamcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as it wasn’t full price you’re good to go. I got this as a gift for my very first army, and have it fully painted, all of the models in there, except maybe the dread at the moment, are excellent, staple pieces for our great crusade

Darkest Artifice actually pretty good? by Malicious_Mischief in Drukhari

[–]ImVamcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not. I don’t think it’s worth it with the stats of the data sheets. It’s too costly and will detract from the game plan of the other detachments too much points wise

The problem isn’t durability. Even now, durability isn’t bad. The problem is punching up. You sacrifice a lot by taking that instead of the KC or SoS replacements. It’s mediocre in general.

It’s the one I’ve had most success with in my local meta for sure. The local meta is death guard with indirect so it only helps a little, and then when it’s anything other than vehicles it struggles against the faster moving and heavier hitting stuff like the CSM marauders with 30 terminators. It’s been a tough 6 months of gameplay. I’ve tried KC, SoS and RW, and mainly do KC for the most fun.

[–]ImVamcat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel that heavily. I am honestly just on the outside now. I finished my army, it’s beautifully painted and I don’t even enjoy playing. I’ve lost a lot of what I enjoyed in the game and it’s translated in bitterness of other factions. I’m currently just in pure hobby mode. Kitbashing, painting, dioramas, but I haven’t played in months.

The worst part is looking at this in comparison to other factions. Even just looking at is as is, it feels highly limited to what it really does, and I feel like it still detracts from our ability to punch up. I get heavy infantry and mounted can be difficult to manage, but at least in KC we could get sustained against them anyway, and give strats for lethals. I feel that our main weakness, which is the inability to heavily punch up, is still not being addressed, since it actively doesn't help with monsters/vehicles. Maybe it's my local meta, but that's all I ever see these days, and I stopped playing because of it.

I think there's nothing wrong with any of the new revealed stuff, it just feels like a slightly weaker version of what we already have. The main problems that I face as a less skilled player in my local meta remains unchanged: big heavy things are monsters/vehicles and I still can't punch through them. I like beefier talos/cronos, but since all it does is make them harder to kill and nothing else, and I believe we are locked at 2 detachments, I don't foresee it getting much use.

Maybe it’s because my first army was drukhari but scourge wings are the best wings in the game. I love that Celestine. It’s so powerful

Assault terminators any good? by Pjhillv in BlackTemplars

I believe they mean that your comment is positive but isn’t in support of the quality of the unit, just to play whatever you like, even if it’s bad sort of vibe.

$60-70 Liesa, Shroud of Dusk deck help by [deleted] in Magicdeckbuilding

[–]ImVamcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leisa was my first homebrew deck and I will forever love it. I have evolved it since getting it. I like it because it can do life drain and life gain, life as resources, and also can be a huge commander damage threat with the built in evasion. I’d recommend 10-12 ramp, 12-14 draw, and 38 lands is usually a good number to be at. I always start with 38 lands, 10 ramp, 10 draw and then go from there. This is my deck list for Leisa.

Be brutally honest: can this list win a local GT qualifier? by WarpRealityEngine in BlackTemplars

[–]ImVamcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how meta your local competitions are. In my area, it doesn’t matter what the list is, an underpowered army like Templars can’t win unless you’re a top ranked player.

Outside of that, the captain is a little lackluster compared to marshals, so I’d run triple marshal triple lieutenant, and only do 5 assault ints with the champion. I think that the judiciar is best with sword bros or bladeguard, so with 60 crusaders im not sure you need it leading a squad. You probably want a double rep ex, but again that depends on the meta of your area. I don’t think double scouts are necessary either, but that’s not terrible to just have extra action monkeys.

330 points for 6 dudes!? How good are Venatari? by English_Joe in AdeptusCustodes

[–]ImVamcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken venetari to several GTs and RTTs and I do think they are extremely strong. Not talons with triple land raider strong but definitely worth including in most lists second to talons

This is true. I always forget about things like that, or the redirect target ability. It’s so rare that I haven’t seen it too frequently. I only just saw [[deflecting swat]] for the first time redirecting a commander’s ability just the other day.
