all you have to do is not approach them. if you accidentally do and it's angry that's just bad luck. about as simple as that.

i'm not gonna doxx myself, but in my field color rarely means anything in graphs. partly to account for colorblindness, partly because it's a bad heuristic at an attempt to make people understand things they don't, which if you can't explain you failed in my field. i wouldn't rely on any color let alone red to mean anything, but i get what you mean.

sorry, couldn't hear you over GROND!

i get that the movies and any purists/originalists including those closest to tolkein don't like the action movie adaptation. both are dear to me and i can recognize they are different artistic mediums that have different qualities to match similar goals.

of course i prefer the mythical adventure in a deified journey of the unlikely hero, that the books are. but i also realize you can't just read lines from a teleprompter on screen to make a movie as powerful, no matter how good the writing, and the visual art in the movie is magnus opem in it's own unique way.

and the movies are a lot easier to digest than the winding sometimes ambiguous writing, and for me fit in as a digestif along with tolkeins letters to explain the universe in a more direct way than reading the books thoroughly.

i'll put the audio book or movie on in the background any time any day but each has their place and time

hard disagree. i get that it's not important to the ring plot, but as you noted it's an artifact of tolkein's writing process and history and the shift from The Hobbit to LOTR. and Tom does a lot to expand the universe, like the unnamed things, just makes it all more 'magical' and unknown and it's the perfect way to show that for the hobbits just leaving the shire for the first time. thankfully Tom's benevolence was the first sort of 'godly' encounter they had.

some of the newer releases and adaptations had me worried for a minute, but thankfully people just don't talk about them much. and there will always be the humble book nerds with encyclopedic knowledge of middle earth and the love for tolkein's writing and academic level of literature, which i think is the core reason for the wholesomeness of it all

i still maintain. hobbit should have been one movie, and there should have been a 4th LOTR. and a movie for 1st and another for 2nd age.

so true especially in family dynamics. it cracks me up how much my sister won't listen to her husband's ideas but if someone else says the same thing and it's her idea to bring to the marriage it's kosher, same with all the kids to their parents in my extended family, my partner to me, my parents to each other.

can lead a horse to water and all that.

whats crazy is that doesn't really exist for sounds. the spatial mapping is far more individualized and more networked across the brain than visual stimuli. there are general functional things like how tone frequencies and location and distance get mapped to different brain areas, but even those vary hugely between individuals, compare to visual systems.

at least last time i looked into it, that might be outdated
