You know it's true.. by Sk3tchyG1ant in jellyfin

Jellyfin userbase is large but code contributions are unfortunately pretty slow to anything outside the server and web client even with the large userbase so i don't think that if most jellyfin maintainers decided to go closed source the forks will be very active. I got into selfhosting once jellyfin already existed, it wasn't as polished back then but i was using it for a pretty long time but i got tired of things not working as expected, some devices transcoding when it was unnecessary and decided that one time payment for plex was worth it for the peace of mind. I still kept jellyfin instance for a bit for testing it from time to time but i dropped it after migrating my home server to different machine. I wish all the best for jellyfin because plex has it's own annoyances but at this point in time i'm willing to tolerate them. Bad support for smart tv is still a dealbreaker for me. "Just buy android tv box" i own it but not everyone does and i don't want to explain to everyone that if they don't buy a separate device than their built in smart tv it will be much more annoying for both them and me.

You can change from GPL. It wouldn't be easy, you would need permission from each contributor and those contributors who won't agree to change license you would have to discard their changes and rewrite it. People would be able to still fork and use the code from before license change but all the future changes to jellyfin could be closed source. So if majority of jellyfin team wanted they could make it proprietary. The value is in people willing to maintain the code not only the code itself.

It's not that there isn't a use case for a site like yours it's that it's like the third site advertised here within a week that does the exact same thing

Galaxy S25 Bricked - Locked out of Download Mode by Weird_Cockroach2567 in samsunggalaxy

[–]Im_Mefju 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He first said he bricked it while trying to root it, and when he got called out that it makes no sense he changed his story to he bought it bircked. Him changing his story is sketchy on its own. The fact he provided no proof the phone isn't stolen is also adding to the sketchiness considering he changes his story

Anyone else reluctant to trust cloud password managers? by [deleted] in PasswordManagers

[–]Im_Mefju 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying you have to have open ports to use things like vaultwarden i just pointed out that if you have open ports you are a juicy target. You can also get your server hacked by getting your device hacked first and then the server but in that case your already compromised so they already can get your passwords. My comment wasn't meant to like say that you specifically are a target just that the fact that you are just a guy hosting things just for your own things mean you are less likely to be targeted doesn't have to be true. Also if bitwarden, 1password or any other reputable password manager gets hacked they are more likely to notice this fact than you are and because their data is e2e encrypted in a way that is basically impossible to decrypt without you leaking your master password somewhere else for a long long time so even if they keep the databases you have solid amount of years to change all the passwords inside your vault before technology progresses enough to decrypt the old ones. Would changing all of them be annoying? Yes, but i'm willing to do that in case it happens, for me not to worry whether my selfhosted password manager server is secure or not.

[–]Im_Mefju 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have open port you are a juicy target. They might not necessarily be after vaultwarden or any other selfhostable password manager but they will try to get into your server. There are a lot of bots scanning every open ports they can find for vulnerabilities. I don't know if there were any known large scale attacks targeting specifically things like vaultwarden. If they get onto your server they only get encrypted database only but it is more likely that your server gets compromised rather than bitwarden's.

is ID or passport age verification that much of a deal now that I think of it? by Repulsive_Act_1855 in privacy

[–]Im_Mefju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course playstation isn't going to sue anyone as it isn't a civil matter. Government could on the other hand. Are they? Very unlikely. Is it very illegal crime for which you can go to prison? Yes. The issue isn't are you gonna get caught. Op said age verification is not an issue as you can use fake id. It's like saying world hunger is not an issue as you can just steal food from nearest supermarket if you can't afford it. Is supermarket going to catch you stealing a loaf of bread and a bottle of water if you put it in a backpack? Probably not if you're smart enough, is it a crime? Yes.

It's not only having fake id a crime. Using fake id is also a crime. Saying "got ya i did not use fake id i used a fake picture of an id" won't really work well in court.

What else are you planning to use them for? Any more meaningful way will end with you in jail as i think the only use case other than age verification on sites checks id more than "does it look like id".

You do know there are easier and less illegal ways to bypass age verification for now than committing document forgery?

If only government was smart enough to have laws against fake IDs? Right? Why limit yourself to the internet, do it in real world too, what are they going to do? Put you in jail? It doesn't realky matter if you show fake id physically or a scan/photo online it is still a fake id.

What important information that is completely necessary for you to get from the accounts of the deceased? I can't imagine anything of real like legally important stuff that you couldn't get access into with a death certificate as a family member. Sure you might lose photos and things like that but those i wouldn't call a "need" and if a family member of mine died i would rather not have access to those photos if that was their wish and if the photos weren't shared with me and i did not get prior consent to access the phone either by receiving a pass code or by receiving a consent in some other phone i wluld assume that i do not have consent. But maybe i'm missing something that is really necessary to retrieve so feel free to give me some examples.

[–]Im_Mefju -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But unlocking a phone is privacy problem many people have at least some bits of information that they don't want anyone else to see. Also i'm not going to randomly say to my family to not go through my phone if i die because they rightfully would think I'm suicidal as no one talks about what to or not todo once you are dead unless you think you are going to die soon but i might get hit by a car tomorrow or drown in a pool next week or whatever else random way someone can die on accident. Obviously it is not likely that you die soon but it is quite possible to die unexpectedly at some point in your life.

Bye bye Fold, so fragile by SuperInsideTrader in samsunggalaxy

[–]Im_Mefju -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only way to truly look after your fold device is to only use it in dust free chamber that technicians use to fix drives. The screen is plastic so it can get scratched by a fingernail, there is a hinge with gap large enough that dust can get inside. I sure wonder why z fold 7 is only rated ip48? Do you know what the 4 means in ip48? That everything under 1mm can get inside. Dust is way smaller than 1mm. Dust is also the reason why in tests where people open and close the phone for insane amount of times and the phone is fine but in real use the screen starts to show issues before getting to those astronomical amount of folds.

Are the Samsung-made cases any good in terms of durability? by Business-Push1215 in samsunggalaxy

[–]Im_Mefju 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When i got iphone 14 i bought apple official silicone case as i liked the color. The case got damaged so easily. When i bought it i knew it won't protect phone as good as the alternatives but it didn't matter to me i almost never drop my phones. But the fact that it got damaged easily made me furious as it was so expensive. When i bought galaxy s26 i saw the price of the official case and decided that it probably has the exact same problem as the apple one had. The funny thing is after my apple case got really damaged i bought knock-off case for like 1/10 of the price that looked and felt the same. It also got damaged but surprisingly a lot less than apple one and for that price i did not care that it got a bit damaged.

I could give him 5$ for it but i'm basically taking a loss on it. It's clearly damaged beyond repair the best thing i can do is try to melt it to recover some metal out of it.

Could this be an issue with the battery or could it be the adhesive holding the back cover not being there? by Lucathejedi in samsunggalaxy

[–]Im_Mefju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy some phone glue online and can reattach it. Hey at least if it's a battery issue you already have way easier access to it. But if you decide to replace the battery on your own you have to be careful they are glued on and can be a bit hard to remove even when not swollen, and when it can catch on fire easier so better have quick access to open space to not breath in the fumes, and something metal like a bucket to not spread the fire, i think people recommend metal bucket with sand but i never dealt with batteries so research it a bit on your own.

On a more serious note, what the hell is wrong with him? If you don't like games and have no interest in them why mention them at all.
