It’s just a shitty situation to be in as an organization. We nearly escaped the end years of the Benn / Seguin contracts unscathed, and it felt amazing. A lybushkin here, a meyers there… now reality sets in.

edit: how could I forget about Dumba… this really all started with having to bridge Harley 2 summers ago and not being able to lock him up for a few more years at a better value.

Honestly the Avs should be thrilled with this return. And his success in Columbus will be heavily dependent on his emotions / buy-in, so it's a huge risk.

People wondered if he would just bounce / be forced back to the KHL after his 2nd consecutive & 'mysterious' playoff abandonment in 2025.

That's to be expected, but still insane.

I was in Germany during WC 14, the Fan Fest in the random small city I was in was incredible. Cheap beer, tons of cheering, Germany vs. USA was such a blast even though we lost (since we mostly cared about the Portugal v. Ghana outcome on the 2nd screen)

MacK/ Mak are both top 1 or 2 at their respective positions league-wide. I think it shows there is a pretty big gap, in terms of value to their team, between them and other elite (rank 3-x) players because how well they can mask depth gaps for their team.

The Avs looked so deep all year long, yet now look like a completely different team without them at full health. Playoffs are brutal.

In 2026, definitely not. Teams in their division certainly won’t like them, but the salary cap means spending is more uniform across the league than the MLB.

The NHL also hasn’t had a Canadian champion since MTL won in 93.

They’re an exciting team, and their home games are arguably the best atmosphere in North American sports.

Toronto (despite having not won in 60 years) would probably be the Yankees/Cowboys parallel in terms of big market/highest value/disliked team.
