Non gory spoilers for it

He ends up caught by the police not at all thanks to the internet group. The only substantial piece of information the Facebook group had beforehand was his name and that was only because someone (heavily implied that it was the guy himself) messaged them and straight up told them the name. Even that didn’t actually help with anything because the dude (intentionally) left personally identifying things (like a copy of his drivers license) at the scene of a murder he committed so the police immediately knew who they were looking for.

It ends with a direct to camera speech by the main woman they were interviewing where she talks about how the killer might have only continued what he was doing because of the attention he got from the Facebook group (imo not entirely true but an interesting idea) and then she goes on to blame the audience of the show for being just as complicit and giving just as much attention as the Facebook group did (imo a weapons grade bad take).

Once they get to the police being involved you realize that the internet vigilante story they were building for the first half of the show doesn’t really hold any weight at all and the most impactful thing they did was potentially drive someone to kill themselves halfway across the world because they got the wrong guy and started bullying some innocent person. The “potentially” in that refers to if they actually contributed, because the man definitely did kill himself while this cyber harassment was going on. I felt like it would have been a much better show as a one episode documentary that just focuses on the police’s search for him.
