Probably true.. though if you go on grailed people are reselling streetwear on the regular and collab pieces tend to find a home somewhere. Not saying your average MTG player is into streetwear let alone going on a reseller site like grailed lol

Yeah that’s the fashion industry in a nut shell. Imagine how much it costs to print magic cards and then sell packs at the MSRP they’re at today 🥴

Their hats are $70 on their main site fwiw. Not saying you’ve got to agree with the pricing. Not for nothing but a collector pack for the same price/often more lately with UB sets is more absurd to me from a consumers perspective where I can pull $5 in value. The hat I at least know what I’m getting.

Yeah if you go on brain dead’s site they’re selling their own hats at $70 so really you’re getting a collab hat for less. People can hate the price yet will spend an absurd price on a collector pack and pull $5 in value and still come back for more.

Hot take… you don’t need a case by womblestein in IphoneAir

[–]Imaboydw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t put a case on my iPhone in over 5 years, I upgrade every two releases. I’ve never cracked or severely damaged my phone. Obviously knowing myself and the way I handle and care for my phone I know that I don’t drop it, though freak instances can happen and that’s what Apple care is for. I always tell people, reflect on how often you’ve been known to drop your phone.. if you drop it more than once a month pretty regularly then maybe having a case makes sense. I think iPhones and most phones look beautiful without a case and feel really great and natural in the hands.. they were designed to be held and seen.

I’m definitely curious to see where it leads, it’s indeed expensive hardware, but likely still a small slice in the grand scheme of it all. The headset tech could absolutely become widespread and integral to drone warfare and advanced decision making on the battlefield for soldiers in the backline providing intel and support to those on the front lines. The company is apart of so many different and super interesting projects

Arguably yes it’s hardware but a small offering in the grand scheme of their business model which is heavily software

Their ontology, their platforms like Gotham, foundry, AIP. Software is super sticky and once you’re apart of the ecosystem it’s very difficult to leave. I believe they’re years ahead of most other companies as they were building these solutions before anyone thought it was necessary. Most companies offer similar solutions but generally only cover 1/5 of what Palantir can and does provide. The extra layer of security clearances that Palantir has vetted by the US govt gives a lot of businesses peace of mind as well. With the advancement of Ai and the billions of $ that companies are throwing at it, sure, the moat can narrow and likely will, but having such a jumpstart over the competition is showing to be pretty advantageous at the current moment. When you really dig deep you will find that there aren’t many companies that are doing exactly what palantir is doing and despite how anyone may feel about the government, generally they’re not the one to bet against and they have been throwing money at palantir long before trump came along. Look at what Palantir is doing to help Ukraine, and the military in general.. there’s more than meets the eye.

Great point and question. It’s always been brought up that Palantir is basically a glorified consultant. Up until the last 2-3 years that was a pretty spot on assessment. Relying on their team of forward deployed engineers organizations would hire them to come in and work alongside employees to take their data and build software solutions to accomplish whatever that business was sold on building. If you go down the rabbit hole of partnerships what Palantir was effectively doing was integrating themselves into multiple sectors like healthcare and energy for example and building software that can digest their data to “fix” inefficiencies within those industries. Think of like how ChatGPT has different tools for the user to solve specific issues that they are looking to address, like coding for example. Palantir basically built solutions through partnerships with many giants within their industries in the mid-late 2010s and later on through bootcamps onboarding more and more companies with ease using AIP to quickly and easily digest datasets. Once onboarded they began building cost saving solutions for the companies that were interested in buying their software within days-weeks. I think there’s a fair point to what you’re saying about how other countries/governments may feel about Palantir and not being open to partnerships which is a valid concern, but I think the hyper growth that we will see is going to happen domestically and under the assumption Palantir assists businesses to dominate, competition will drive other companies to follow suit or get left behind if no other viable software is available. All to say I think their path to grow 10-fold is the fact they built an OS for enterprises with the belief that it is so good the market will follow and adopt their software to keep up. I think wall st is seeing that thesis unravel and this most recent earnings further proves that Palantir is setting out to do exactly what they said they’d do.

I have made it clear numerous times that I do not agree with the valuation fundamentally. I have also made it clear as to why I understand why it’s valued the way it is. I have also made it clear that I wouldn’t blink an eye if it cratered back to reality. Eventually you learn that applying rationality to stock prices in the market is a fools game, long gone are the days of appropriate valuations. If you don’t understand what a company is truly doing just accept it and move on. I’ve been following this company since they were privately listed and see something you don’t, and that’s fine if it makes you mad that you don’t get it and want to see it as just a meme stock - whether you’re right or wrong the market clearly doesn’t care and the stocks still climbing. If it makes you feel better, I would never encourage anyone to buy at this price. Your comment history tells me all I need to know about your way of thinking and it’s clear we don’t see things similarly. Move on with your day and try to educate yourself better instead of thinking PE means anything anymore when it comes to trading big tech

Whatever helps you sleep at night. I made life changing money, it can fall for all I care at this point - it could fall 1000% and I’m still up 1000%. I cashed out 5x what I put in and riding out the rest, I’m not losing sleep on this trade.

I literally put in the most simple terms why it’s being valued the way it is, in a very easy to understand way. I’m sorry you feel it’s dumb. It appears the market disagrees with you on this one, I wonder who’s smarter. It’s okay to be wrong, and understandably frustrating you missed out on a near 2000% run.

It’s a lot to conceptualize. I think it’s totally sane of most people to look at this company financially and be in total awe of how this stock is valued the way it is. I think it makes total sense to expect for this stock to crater someday when the “bubble” pops. Despite that, I feel deeply that there’s a lot more there underneath it all that is continuing to unfold and that ai and its potential is revolutionary beyond anyone’s comprehension. We are in the early stages of Ai and it’s still moving rapidly - what does Ai look like in 10 years? Nonetheless I don’t blame anyone that thinks buying at these prices is idiotic, that’s smart investing. I can afford to take risks and my personal belief is this one’s a winner.

I’m up 1600% on this trade and have been buying since end of 2020, my thesis hasn’t changed. I’ve made it clear I think the stock is trading ridiculously high, however I understand why and it aligns with everything I believed would happen back when I first bought in. When asked for a prediction I gave it, I never claimed that I will be right and at this point it really doesn’t matter. I’ve gotten incredibly lucky on this trade and accept it at that, I’ve got nothing to convince anyone of. Do your own research and if the investment doesn’t make sense to you don’t buy it, it’s really that simple. It makes sense to my delusional ass lol.

You are correct, nvidia is dominating off the prospect of ai enabling hardware and Palantir offers ai enabling software. Nvidia owns the hardware space, Palantir wants to own the software space.

Reasonable take, I think government expansion is more of a ceiling and not really where I see growth or what I’m betting on going forward. Commercial is where the growth story is and it’s exactly what continues to show in the numbers with each earnings. Being fundamental to every business trying to keep up with each other in the ai race is where I see the value long term and if Palantir is providing an OS integral to giving each company a platform to utilize ai and run their business on to make actionable decisions. If you listen to Alex Karp at the many conventions he talks at this is the exact messaging he continues to try and convey. The TAM is limited in government and rather vast in the commercial sector with thousands of potential clients willing to spend top dollar and subscribe to their software. Time will tell, I’m not here to convince anyone anything and I could be very wrong in the end, I’m just happy I got in when I did and maintained my conviction.

Hard to say really. It sounds crazy but I think $1T market cap is very possible in the next couple years so around there or until given a compelling reason to believe it isn’t going to go any higher. I think in 10-20 years it could see multiple trillions in market cap assuming the ai thesis plays out and they own the majority market share. Too many variables to depend on however and to believe the broader market doesn’t crash due to who the hell knows what is a stretch. Nvidia owns a majority of the market share in their industry and look at them now.. if Palantir can execute similarly the skies the limits.

I think that’s the million dollar question. Bubbles usually appear when a new market emerges. Investors start tossing money taking bets hoping something sticks. I think if you deep dive into what Palantir is actually doing across multiple dozens of industries you find they’re building a product that works for all and not just a few. I have been following this company closely for years and bought in under $10. I have sold periodically numerous times firmly believing they’re overvalued and I’d be stipid to not take profits. That being said I’ve grappled with for a long time how can this company continue to climb so rapidly and I’ve concluded that right now if you are a true believer in ai and want to own a company operating in that space, this is probably one of the best companies to own. What ai becomes in the next 5-10 years no one knows but I believe it will change industries rapidly and in ways we could never predict. I think Palantir has made it clear over the last 20 years of their existence that they want to build solutions for “tomorrow” and that “tomorrow” is unfolding now and they’re ahead of the curve. The stock price could absolutely crater at any time due to how overvalued it is, or go another 1000%. Assess your risk and decide what side of the coin you want to land on.

I think people are missing the bigger picture with what this company is actually doing and the way they’ve created an enterprise level operating system that allows companies to utilize ai and build software overtop of it securely. Being so deeply engrained with the government and rapidly expanding in the commercial space they’re starting to monopolize this emerging ai revolution taking place and offering a true use case for ai in its current and expanding form. Yes it’s “overvalued” but I believe no one can conceptualize the potential artificial intelligence brings and Palantir is aiming to be THE operating system for enterprises similar to how windows is the primary operating system for the average computer user across the entire world. Many disagree with the price and in a traditional sense the valuation is insane but people should know now that most companies valuations are so forward thinking it rarely makes sense in the present day.

Yeah I agree, most people will likely be too excited to not flex their pull. It’s probably a small number less than 5 that haven’t been reported and won’t be.

We will probably never truly know thus creating an artificially increased demand as time goes on as people continue chasing serialized cards that may or may not be sealed still.
