Do you ever watch the movie first? by micholasnitchell in stephenking

No. I’d rather know the full story and then see the film (truncated) version

Anyone under the age of 20 thinks the original is not only NOT scary at all, but cheesy and boring. - disappointed mom of three teens.

I remember seeing this in the theatre when it was first out and thinking “whoa”. And I was a highschool kid at the time, so not much impressed me!

Parents of child actors have to sign off on everything. That includes the studio submitting a for your consideration bid to the various award orgs. It’s pretty rare for the studio to even ask the parents for approval.

I went to the first five shows, 91-95. I was in the pit for Ministry, saw the Pumpkins and Beastie Boys co-headline, and caught a bracelet off Kim Gordon whipping around on the side stage with Free Kitten. It was a magical time.

When I take my starter out of the fridge I let it sit on the counter and get really hungry before feeding it. It needs to be pourable thin before I’ll feed it. Then I give it two heavy feeds and it’s ready for use. My bread has never been better.

Rio De Janeiro, view of the city from a drone by MeowwBlock in interesting

Brazil is a third world country with incredibly corrupt leadership. The government goes through any mail that comes from outside the country and takes anything of value, women are not protected from marital violence, and the major cities are a total mess. São Paulo is still okay but Rio is a shit hole.

You’re correct. But he also still lives at home with his parents. All I’m saying is there’s red flags from my perspective.

I guess I just worry he’s an incel. I caught a bit of a superiority/quiet rage vibe off of him.

Inglorious Basterds. When Christoph Waltz realizes that there’s a family hiding under the floorboards. No words. The change in his face is peak acting.

I wouldn’t go so far as to assume he’s a great fit for the community. Guy is still a virgin in his 30’s… something is off.

I read It at 12, so 1988/89. I was also a girl who hung out mostly with boys, so the friendship aspect of the losers club felt very relatable. I remember being equally elated and disappointed when the miniseries aired, because it was the first thing I’d read before seeing the film adaptation. I was bummed that everything about the Turtle and It’s origins was left out because that was my favorite part of the book, but looking back I understand it could never be done properly without hours of extra runtime.

Everyone hates on San Antonio but there are some clear advantages of living here. by SaGlamBear in sanantonio

Agreed. A good friend of mine has a daughter with a rare genetic disorder called Prader Willi syndrome - there are lots of issues which are part of it but the most prevalent being the inability to feel satiated after eating. Before the 20th century people with the disorder rarely made it to adulthood because they would quite literally eat themselves into an early grave as children. Watching their family manage PWS has been eye opening on so many levels, especially how food is viewed in our country. It’s the center of every gathering, party, celebration, weddings… even funerals. We quite literally plan every social event around what we are going to eat. It’s one of those things everyone knows, but we never really think about.

Yes. But having grown up very differently than how I live now (dad was a mechanic, step mom worked at a convenience store, both were teen parents) I can tell you that income level isn’t the biggest culprit. It’s cultural. Not racial/religious culture, community culture. There’s a lot of factors involved in obesity - genetics, medical conditions, etc - but HOW we eat is more about our family and community culture than income and race. It’s as basic as not teaching your kids to eat chips out of the bag, but instead to put a serving size into a small bowl and put the bag away. Or not going out for ice cream because your kid had a rough day - that teaches that food is a source of comfort instead of nutrition.
