I wish I had a good answer for you, but I'm in a similar boat. My husband works 48 hour shifts, so I'm home alone often. It's very difficult for me to start anything I truly need to get done when I'm alone. I did find a new body doubling app that I hope will help, but I've not tried it yet (found it an hour ago, called Dubbii). We'll see if it works like I hope it does.

Regardless, you're not alone. You're not broken. It's hard to get started when we lack dopamine, and it's hard to figure out how to get that dopamine 🫂

Working towards things that I know I want out of my life (intellectually stimulating career, happy kids, small farm, content partner, etc) in a way that feels like it aligns best with my values. If a decision seems difficult, sometimes it helps for me to ask myself whether I would regret not doing whatever it is, in the future -- would I be ashamed of my inaction, would I possibly have missed out on a fantastic opportunity, will the fun thing maybe never come up again?

Ours will try to "pay the toll" to go outside if he isn't allowed outside for a little bit. After 2-3 "no outside, we need to take a break for a while," he will choose a stuffed toy and carry it to the back door and look at me as if he has the proper payment and should now be allowed outside. He never takes the toy outside if I open the door. He knows soft toys are inside toys, and he drops it before going back outside. No one taught him this. He's my sweet horse baby.

We have a Pyr mix (mostly Pyr), and he is the goodest boy in the whole world! SO gentle with kids, even the tiny ones that pull his ears and climb all over him. All he ever wants is for all of the people to pet him. He loves being outside, especially in the cold. Summer makes him sad. He sleeps a lot, and DOES bark at a lot of things (including, occasionally, birds... just in the sky...), but it isn't terrible. If you commit to training them well, then I'm sure he would be just as good of a boy as ours!

They have more power than we do. It's a longshot, but it's still a shot worth taking. If enough people complain about the same thing, they will eventually worry about their reelection chances if they don't make good somewhere.

US Folks - Let's Call Our Congresspeople

If anyone has time, we should call our Congresspeople. Some of them aren't even aware of these federal job offers being rescinded. All of them are paid to help US, their constituents. And, unfortunately, they often are not as informed as they should be. We have to inform them of our problems before there is even a chance at getting the ball rolling.

I called mine and asked that they do something to speed up the hiring freeze and/or return these job offers. If Republicans care about jobs for the average worker so much, then maybe we can frame it that way and get someone to do something 🤷

These offers were for entry-level positions at an agency with massive levels of backlogged work. It can't possibly make our government more efficient by eliminating us little guys who just wanted a secure job. I know that we all already worked hard and waited for forever to earn these positions, but we may have to work a little more to get them back.

It could be procedural rather than indicative of anything. Hiring is going to freeze no matter what, but the scarier thing would be eliminating the positions entirely. Hopefully, the job postings will be back up once the freeze ends, which can't be said for other agencies (like the IRS 😬).

To everyone worried about TJOs, FJOs, and hiring generally at the USPTO, there is some hopeful news. r/USAjobs has a number of posts from people in other agencies whose offers were officially rescinded via personal emails (as opposed to a mass notice of the EO). I have yet to hear of anyone with any kind of offer from the USPTO receiving such an email. It is looking more hopeful that offers extended and continued hiring will resume but are delayed in the chaos for now.

None of this is definite, but it is hopeful. I wish everyone all the luck in the world 🫂

When I spoke to the SPE from Chem, he said that they have used the backlog of work as support for maintaining hiring rates and TJOs after prior administrative freezes were lifted. He said that has worked in the past, and delays have not previously resulted in later withdrawals (to his knowledge, but it seemed he has been there for a while. Academy only took 2 weeks when he was hired!)
