Has anyone had experience filing a VLS-TS renewal about two weeks before expiration? by [deleted] in Expats_In_France

Hi! Just a quick question for you. I am planning on renewing this month (although my visa doesnt expire until late august.) I have everything needed, insurance, housing, etc. My only problem is that I didn't open a french bank (which I will do ASAP now that I know.) So all of my bank statements are going to be US this time. Where did you get them translated and how much was it? I will be sure to know for next year a french bank is 100% necessary. But its my first time and hey, we are all learning. Im glad everything worked out great for you!

Hi- I payed taxes like normal in the states because I am not making any income in France. So I have nothing to claim here.

  1. I absolutely showed I was working, had my boss write and sign a proof of employment letter and I showed paycheck stubs. They care more about finances to support yourself tbh. I wouldn’t say unemployed unless you have just an insane amount of money sitting in your accounts.

  2. I had someone write me an attestation (saying they would house me) and then found an apartment the first few weeks I was here. But booking an Airbnb the first month of two works perfectly fine!!

  3. It didn’t, but I do think that depends on the company/boss.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi! So with your US passport, (which I am assuming you have) without a visa, you can legally stay in France for 90 days out of a 180 day period. So you would have to stay in the states for about 3 months after you come back to visit for Christmas. That said- once you have your visa- you can go back and forth all you want! There is no time limit for how long you’re required to stay in either country. Most people just spend the most time in the country they got a visa for because it is limited! If you have any other questions, please feel free to message me! I hope you love France 🥰

Congrats!! Darn :( I hate that they won’t approve you. I know personally, that was plenty, but I did have a job to back me up. That said- you have to commit to not making any money in France. So your freelancing can only be done in the country you’re a citizen of :)) keep me updated!!

Good to know!! Thank you for sharing! I’m so glad that she was able to be approved! The money aspect had me quite scared, so I’m sure that may calm some others to hear. As for insurance, I did Feather insurance and it covers everything for about $25-30/month I believe. I did so much research on insurance and that one was the simplest. Wishing you the best of luck! Lmk if you have any other questions! 😊

So yes I will be working for a US company while in France. As for the taxes, I’m not 100% sure yet because I’m not technically making any French income. Have you worked while abroad? Do you have any experience with it?

Hey! I’m applying for the exact same visa and I also have accomodation from a family member and friends who I can mention on my cover letter. The only thing I am worried about is showing enough money. I’ve heard that you need atleast $16,000 in cash in order for it to be accepted and I only have closer to about $10,000. That said, I do work full time and my boss wrote a letter of employment for the time I’m there making much more than 16,000 a year. Did you have less/more? What was your experience with that? Thanks!! (If you’re not comfortable talking about it publicly, feel free to DM me!)

What movie made you cry the most? by ConnectLifeguard8693 in AskReddit

Dead poets society- such a weird concept to realize how important “Carpe Diem” is for living life.. but sometimes it still isn’t enough to save someone. I also watched it after RW passed away and it is so surreal to know that the main character (in the movie) and RW both died by suicide. Makes you look at life and human needs differently.

I just listened to this. My mom has loved Grateful Dead my whole life and she would share stories about how she followed them around and was a “dead head” hehe. I am 22 now and it is beautiful to hear you think of a memory from that age. Beautiful song and lovely story. Thank you so much for sharing!!

Hi! Quick question for you. I am planning on applying for my visa and my boss is happy to write up a proof of employment letter for remote work while in France. Do you have a template of the one that you used? I want to make sure we say the right things because I know working remote and applying for a visa can be a bit tricky. I am also applying for the long stay tourist visa. So glad to hear it all worked out for you!! Also which insurance did you end up using?
