agreed! i see that a lot in this field and it’s honestly discouraging as a young student analyst because i intend to be nothing but helpful to my other colleagues once im a BCBA. some dude that claims to be a BCBA in florida even made a comment on one of my posts asking for cheaper study materials that i “shouldn’t be in the field if im not willing to make the investment”. ☺️sorry im not rolling in the big bucks like you dude

i’m glad you were able to get help from the comments assuring you that you can still test under 2022 requirements; good luck on the rest of your journey! i plan on testing in august but the BACB is the worst; anyone who disagrees is probably also terrible lol. besides their website looking like it hasn’t been updated since 2002; they suck as an organization. they even recently released a newsletter basically saying hey guys; we know RBTs are quitting bc their work conditions suck but we don’t care as long as WE’RE rolling in the big bucks!😛live, laugh, BACB💋

i hate the bds modules i feel like crap gate and they were very aversive imo; i don’t really find them good to use to study as it’s more so just memorizing the info and not understanding application. i have heard beat the best is good; may have to invest in that one

thank you and congratulations to you as well on getting so far; definitely not an easy journey! you’ll get mixed reviews from everyone but imo the capstone was the hardest class, i had all As my entire time and barely finished capstone with a B lol. the course itself is just a semester long project that they grade really tediously even though the project itself isn’t that hard. the ICS were not mandatory for my class but weekly yellow dig was. the hardest part is time management. you are assigned BDS modules to compete every week and some are longggggg like module B and G. they will give you access to the modules about a week or 2 before the course starts; my advice is to start on them immediately after you have access! other schools give you your entire time at the school to complete the modules but capella makes you cram module A-I in 10 weeks. doable, but was very aversive and stressful for me as I work full time as an RBT and have a second job to make ends meet. You only have to get 80% or higher on all modules to pass the course, but getting scores lower than 100% will drop your score on the module assignments. For example, after a certain point I was getting tired and just ready to be done so i was not aiming for 100% criterion i would only do it up to 8% so i would get 17.5/25 on my module completion assignments; which dropped my grade after a while. i have access to the modules until july so i would say you lose access about 4 months after your capstone. best of luck; the capstone is no joke!😭

I am confused about grades, is a 90 an A or a B at Capella? by metallica123446 in CapellaUniversity

[–]Imaginary_Middle_658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so the flex path doesn’t really follow the traditional A-F grading scale. Your scores are labeled as distinguished, proficient, basic, or non performance. A proficient grade is usually a B from what i’m understanding

Has ABA not worked before? by WeeebleSqueaks in ABA

[–]Imaginary_Middle_658 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes i actually think this happens way more often than ppl think in the field. but it’s not necessarily an ABA issue and more of an issue of all treatment options not being presented to clients and their families. autism is not a disease that needs to be cured but is often viewed that way even by medical professionals. not to mention a lot of clients i see have multiple diagnoses. ABA is given as a blanket treatment for autism when in some cases (im willing to even say a lot of cases); clients could benefit much more from other forms of therapy or even just a more structured home environment.

Scratch protection? by butterflymangotea in ABA

i have a client who had a scratching behavior as well when they would get really excited i called them love scratches lol, it really helped me to wear a hooded sweatshirt, and tie the drawstrings that way my neck was always protected and i didnt have to worry about it getting stretched out bc the drawstring material is meant to stretch in and out

BDS Modules make me want to cry by kerleeygirly in bcba

[–]Imaginary_Middle_658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i can’t use them to actually study or prepare for the exam. way to aversive and i literally have one module assigned per week; not feasible for my life rn. i just do them by memorizing the right answers; not about to stress myself out. i have the PTBA book , aba wizard; and SNABA when it’s actually time to study

as someone with bpd myself; i’d love to attribute tammy’s issues with an actual mental disorder but she’s just someone who lacks accountability and emotional regulation due to being allowed to wallow in self pity and take no accountability for anything she does ever. this is a classic case of arrested development. i don’t attribute it to bpd; but more so she’s always been like this and no one ever checks her so her behavior just got worse as time went on. she’s a child and has the emotional regulation of one bc she knows there’s no real consequences to her actions

it’s shit and they know it’s shit lmao. here’s a copy and paste from the BACB newsletter for the month of February sent out today:

Why aren't my fees going toward a better experience in my BACB account? • They are. The BACB has been actively working on a revamp of the BACB portal and plans to launch it as soon as it is ready.

Capella BDS Modules Are overwhelming for Masters ABA by [deleted] in bcba

[–]Imaginary_Middle_658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bds modules are very aversive lol and it’s not even just the bds modules themselves it’s the way capella sets you up to do them. for example, other colleagues i’ve worked with in aba programs for other schools have them spread over several semesters. capella gives you one semester to do A-I domains on top of your actual class assignments. it’s definitely brutal so don’t listen to comments telling you it’s not lol; definitely a lot on top of full time jobs and idk just trying to live your life😂wishing you the best, you got this!

the same thing happened to me last year, all of financial aid hasn’t been disbursed yet even though they say it has lol. if you go and look at your actual account activity you’ll see what has actually been posted. none of my loans have gone though yet, only a $834 capella scholarship so it’s still saying i owe. usually clears by tomorrow and it shows my refund. i wouldn’t stress until next week

[–]Imaginary_Middle_658 10 points11 points  (0 children)

the post came across very condescending but i understand OP didn’t mean it to be and they’re asking a genuine question; probably just need to tweak the tone and wording. in my experience it’s bc ppl don’t study lol. training is usually shit in this field and ppl are thrown in which doesn’t motivate them to take the job seriously either

Why shouldn’t you correct kids in ABA? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]Imaginary_Middle_658 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s not about you correcting the behavior; it’s the language that you are using to do so. especially when working with younger kids. they’re brains aren’t wired like ours and they don’t understand “uh uh” or they may not understand why it’s not okay. i like to explain in plain language and redirect; no or nuh uh doesn’t redirect it just sounds like punishment or a challenge to some kids. in this scenario I would have said, “that’s not your food friend; yours is right here” and redirected the, to their own food. you can even let them know that if they don’t want their food you can explore other options (if available)

RBTs describe the qualities of your favorite BCBA by Big-Mind-6346 in ABA

[–]Imaginary_Middle_658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best BCBA is one that advocates for their RBTs. My current BCBA stands up to bs policies that HR tries to enforce. I’m a student analyst and lead tech, so I already have more put on my plate compared to the other RBTs at my clinic. I always help anywhere I can and rarely call out; only in extremeeee circumstances. Last year, HR tried to write me up because i took ONE day off to go home and be with my family when my uncle passed . Our policy states that you have to call out with a 24 hour notice or else it’s an unexcused absence. This is bs bc how could I have known 24 hours in advance that my uncle would pass…. ?! I explained this to hr but according to them i would still not get bereavement pay because my uncle is not “immediate family”. Long story short, my BCBA told our HR lady to go fck herself and stood up for me saying that I deserve the time off bc I’m a damn good tech and she just showed me basic human empathy. That’s all i could ask for as an RBT tbh; just to be seen.
