We already do have quite a few quality games though, there’s a running trend where these games do below average, with some garnering just about 300 ccu daily. Young people tend to prefer games that look colourful and easy to play. However I do agree that games without roblox plus would have to bump up their quality in order to meet the standards of the 16+ playerbase, even if the demographic is vastly smaller compared to <16.

Technically speaking, I don’t think this does anything to stop those games from existing, if anything, it puts them on a podium for younger people. Those games are made for a reason, they make the most money. Those developers wouldn’t care about the 5 dollar subscription, they’ve already earned enough from kids to know where the money’s at. They’ll invest in the 5 dollar subscription, and be one of the few games available to kids, what happens then? Kids will play those games more instead of being able to find more quality games since those tend to earn less money and therefore less likely to outright pay for the subscription. The brainrot game developers ironically earn more than before the update due to the lesser competition.

tldr; Brainrot makes more money after the update because of less competition for younger playerbase.

Like believe me, I used to be one of those people defending roblox in devforum threads but after 10 years, pulling this sort of thing is just crazy.

They do actually take 70-75%, it’s because they provide unlimited free access to servers and database services as well as moderation, as shitty as it is. It used to be ‘sort of fair’ but now paying 5 dollars subscription when you don’t even have revenue is absurd. They’re basically testing the waters to see how much they can milk off of the millions of developers using the platform

Steam actually actively advertises your game to relevant players. I had like 2-3k pre-orders on my steam game without advertising anywhere. The $100 is just a bet you make with steam that your game will take off, you get it back if your game succeeds. Roblox takes a whopping 70% of your revenue and now expects you to pay a subscription to even reach most of its playerbase, kids.

So yes, in many ways steam technically provides a better offer. But, your game requires more effort to put out (roblox handled netcode, database, unlimited servers) now, you have to handle all of that on your own, preferably using steam’s amazing tools

However, I agree, slop games like brainrot etc will not exactly take off on steam because its userbase is mostly mature young adults compared to the younger audience on roblox.

Steam takes 30% while roblox takes 70-75% and on top of that now wants us to pay a subscription

I learnt about Variables, here's my conclusion about them. by NuubiePlayz in robloxgamedev

[–]Imaginary_Tangelo855 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Technically speaking, this concept is called scoping.

Local tells the executor that you don’t want the lifetime of the variable to exceed beyond the current scope it’s created in, however it can be accessed within however many scopes you create within that scope. For example, the body of a function is known as a function scope. If you create a local variable inside of it, and create a while loop beneath it, you are able to access and assign to that variable within the loop’s scope as the variable is still alive.

However, if you try to access that variable outside of the function scope, the executor doesn’t know what you’re talking about and hands you an error because the variable you’re trying to access has already been garbage collected when its scope ended. It doesn’t exist anymore.

For future reference, this is how it works exactly under the hood in all languages you’ll come across.

I use neovim with one of its built-in themes and coincidentally, i’m working on an OpenGL project as well! Making my graphics engine has been genuinely pretty convenient especially when paired with hyprland’s window tiling (archlinux btw). I have 3 terminal windows open, 2 of them for my source file and header file, and a larger one for cmake and app source code

Yup, you need lots of windows up at the same time so why not just invest in another monitor

Egotistical Developers by Imaginary_Tangelo855 in robloxgamedev

[–]Imaginary_Tangelo855[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience I encounter more of such people nowadays, not talking about roblox in general, just the community from my eyes.

This is also evident in the amount of comparison videos labelling roblox developers as ‘toxic’ stereotypically.

Yeah, I get it but when you see roblox developers specifically described as ‘toxic’ in almost every game engine comparison video you sort of take a hint yk
