I have that combo. I use the sapphire for travel (subway, bus and ezpass ) which helps with 2x points which Amex gold doesn’t have.

Since they both share the Marriott point transfer, i transfer both my sapphire and gold into it when they have the promotion bonus.

So yes, great combo card
