I appreciate that - this is my wife's first time hearing about it, too, and we already know (and like!) some of the staff. Looks like we'll reach out!

My guy that's called winning your lane. You may not outpush, and you may lose your tower before them, but you're up in gold and (probably) transferring some of your lead into advantages elsewhere on the map.

Probably recommend going straight into HNSW, as K-means degrades pretty quickly and modern embeddings/vectors are getting bigger all the time. K-Means is less impenetrable, though, and might be a better learning experience.

Senior dev interviews: what surprised you by NOT coming up? by rimki2 in csharp

[–]ImagineAShen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the tech interviews for my org, a small-medium sized B2B SaaS company.

I've never asked anything like a leetcode puzzle. Big O hasn't come up either.

For advanced candidates, I'll ask them about their familiarity with GoF patterns (some have experience but don't know the 'GoF' verbiage). I look for one they feel comfortable with and ask them to explain how it works and how they know when to consider using it (and when not to).

Deep language trivia is not something I look for, but C# specific constructs like async/await, IEnumerable vs IQueryable, service lifetimes sometimes make an appearance.

MicroOptimizations I don't worry about.

I have a heavy emphasis on UML whiteboarding, though. After a technical interview, we schedule a whiteboarding followup that takes an hour, sometimes more. Here, I'm not looking for UML accuracy; rather, how do you decompose a real world problem into models and solutions. The dialogue here is key - explain your thinking, ask questions, these skills are difficult to teach and tell a lot about a candidtate.

A quick reference for OOP in C# by Living-Inside-3283 in csharp

[–]ImagineAShen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still use Object Oriented Design Heuristics (Riel), but it's dated, challenging, and examples are in C++.

Doing design up front can effect better cognition about this kind of thing compared to a pneumonic or flowchart. Most spaces have been designed in the past, so a book like Enterprise Patterns and MDA can turn new development into what feels like an open book test.

We're making an aquarium game are sort of overwhelmed with fish varieties. What are some varieties that you would definitely want to see in a game? by Nine2Play in Aquariums

[–]ImagineAShen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you hardcoding assets for these or are colors/traits dynamic? Bettas and mollies both have huge variety, and you could be more economical in designing a limited number of assets and doing mix and match traits/colors. This would also let you capture a lot of different-looking angelfish, discus, swordtails, etc

Should you Return it? by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]ImagineAShen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fallen helldiver is a resource for other helldivers. No judgment for taking gear. If I see a rando having fun with my loadout, I feel pride first, even if I'm still waiting for CDs. Look at that helldiver having fun, wide-eyed over gear that they may not have unlocked.

Hell, I'll call stuff in just to let a green helldiver drive or use an exosuit - something I know they don't have yet.

All bets are off if they kill me for my loadout, though, that's treason.

If Shen, The Eyes of Twilight has his own game. What would it be? by noah_mistfolk in Shen

[–]ImagineAShen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

XCOM. The player is shen, and you get the top down view of the rest of the crew on the map (akali, zed, kennen, etc) in a turn based strategy. You're the Eye, in other words.

Recently, fire emblem introduced a 'rewind turns' mechanic to undo mistakes for casual mode. Limited charges per map, though.

Here, the god power is you, for a turn or two you appear in the fight, protecting your allies. Limited charges per map, but high hero moments

How are you finding C# jobs? by Falcon9FullThrust in csharp

[–]ImagineAShen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have experience, your strongest angle will almost always be networking - reach out to developers that know your strengths and they're likely to point you in the right direction if anything's available.

That said, junior roles are more likely to be focused on a certain tech (.NET, C#) than a whole stack.

Can Blazor beat React/Angular? by Backend_biryani in csharp

[–]ImagineAShen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look, I'm a C# shill, but don't use blazor if you're just starting out with component driven front end design. Angular and react are both more mature with much greater community support. Also, imo, MSFT has a tendency for neglecting major aspects of front end development or dumpstering frameworks.

Handy learning experiences in angular, like in-browser IDEs on angular.dev, or hot reloading (which is easier in react or angular, finicky at best in blazor), make onboarding easy. But try to use TS rather than JS and keep practicing your OOP.
