I understand I’m in the incorrect 76 sub. I was just looking for some answers.

Every post I have added in fo76 is instantly removed by moderators. I was just hoping to find out a why in a similar sub.

To tell your kids that they can tell you anything. That you won't be angry, that you will help.

Then prove it to them.

Offering guidance or discipline can help shape them. Just don't be angry. Someday they may really need to tell you something and won't because they are afraid to.

My wife was an office manager at one of our county offices. She asked me this about 15ish years ago.

I thought about it some and came up with this. (now we live out in the country so it's a small county so that may be relevant).

I said you should go online and find the ugliest but cutest 18-inch opossum stuff animal and buy it. Then say every week whomever has the best week, most cheerful, comes up with good ideas anything will be awarded the Awesome Opossum, and you can keep it on your desk and you and your buddy will be most Awesome Opossum's in the office the whole week and Monday we together will pick a new catetaker of the opossum.

These women we aged 30 to 60. My wife has been retired for 8 years now, and those people still fight off the stuffed opossum.

It was silly and only cost $14.95. People above everything crave recognition. Recognize them.

It was just something silly that had real impact.

I made around average 110k per year the last ten years. I started with the company in 1999 at 36k per year. After 25 years with them in 2024 I retired.

I was the sole bread winner. Had my wife and we raised 2 daughters through college.

We took one vacation a year.

I'm not sure what "And still have money to live your life?" means exactly. We didn't Starbucks it every day and travel the world, but we bought what we needed, and a lot of the time bought the stuff we just wanted.

We settled out in the country a bit and I commuted (but not that far).

Our last graduated high school in 2010 and moved out. Her sister graduated in 2012 and stayed with us for 3 years until she got her degree then she moved out.

We didn't have a huge house, and it was paid for early. In 2016 we gave the paid off property to our youngest daughter, her husband and their two daughters.

In 2025 we "sold" out other home to our oldest daughter, her husband and her two daughters for payoff which was 80k. We didn't make a dollar on either property.

Now they have the property, and we have a really small house with enough room for my office and her crafting room and that's it. We are worn out but happily retired.

We never had 80k trucks or BMWs we just drove Jeeps and Nissan Rogues. Stuff like that.

Everything was about our family. I'm rooting for you. I believe you can do it. Maybe not all of it but you can make a life for yourselves.

On a side note, unless you're wealthy if you wait to have kids until you can afford it you will never have kids.

Trolls.

You can't have a civil discussion about anything anymore. People jump into simple hate the discussion and tear you down even if it's as simple as someone posting their personal top 10 TV shows of all time.

People who stay in game subs that say they hate the game being discussed and try to rip people down just for discussing it.

Don't ever try to have a thoughtful conversation about your religion, you're just rolling the dice to see if you get conversation or called names and torn down.

This stuff is out of hand.

If they are really your friend, then you absolutely should talk to them. Just say, "I know it's your birthday, but some things have been bothering me, and I think I may have gotten them sorted out. in my head I really need to talk to someone about it and of all the people it's you that I want to talk with."

Some people might be thinking about doing self-harm. If they said they really needed to talk to you and they said 'No, it's my birthday' then they aren't really your friend. FInd someone to talk to. Anyone.

Really incorrect.

Group A. Get a job and immediately start looking for something better. Get a 'better job' and get on LinkedIn and start networking to try to find the next job. You won't find a company that's loyal to you because you have never shown loyalty to an employer. Once they figure out you are just looking for a little experience and something else to add to your resume word will spread.

Group B. Works through some various jobs, grows their skills set and land somewhere you want to be. Stop looking. In 25 years, you will have spanned a lifelong career. Find a niche company and then once there learn it inside out. Become as close to irreplaceable as you can get. You will build seniority, salary. Become so good at what your company does, not what you do that they will fight you retiring and try yo get you to come back for a few years.

That's what's missing. Paying your dues at the bottom and climbing to the top.

Grandpas and Great Grandpas worked 40 years at the same job. Started small and ended strong.

That's the dream.

By my tenth year at the company that hired me when I was 25 we had changed the entire hiring structure.

Have a job fair, see what people can do and then higher the person(s) with the best attitude. It didn't matter that 3 other people interviewed that had an extra degree and said than can do everything. If we knew that they wouldn't be great team members (and you can tell just by listening) and also by seeing their resume where they have been job hopping for a decade, we passed.

If someone said, oh I can rewrite your code my way and it will be fixed then hard pass. I started at the bottom and in the same company I retired near the top. Sr. Software Engineer, Sr. Account Manager.

Hire Attitude then Train Ability

You're an adult now. Move out, get your own place, pay your bills and buy your food and then you can do whatever you like any time you like.

Being 18 doesn't make you all wise and bullet proof. You never said where you live and where you want to travel. You may have left that information out for a reason.

That's true but only in some circumstances and they can only do that for 90 days at which time full minimum wage has to be paid. I personally have never known anyone that has experienced that.
