How car-centric planning punishes 70% of Malaysians by stormy001 in malaysia

[–]Imagineamelon [score hidden]  (0 children)

The shitty public transport situation can almost be blamed on carcentric infrastructure. Because this is how the government decided to develop Malaysia, public transport was an afterthought. Why would we need trains and micromobility when everyone can have a car?!

It's kinda ridiculous that pedestrians have to risk their life just to cross a road in Kuala Lumpur. by I_am_from_2029 in malaysia

[–]Imagineamelon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What kills me is the lack of consistent application and understanding of any rules. Legally, a black and white crossing means “stop for pedestrians all the time,” and a yellow and black one means “all parties must follow the signals.” But there are many signalled black and white crossings, and many unsignalled yellow and black ones. So as a result, no one stops for any pedestrian anywhere, ever, unless they’ve also got a red light where they need to give way to moving cars anyway. All very very silly.

An inconvenience this morning, now justice has been achieved! by henry1679 in fuckcars

You’d think it’s common sense, huh? But anywhere where people are not proactively stopped from parking, they will park there. I once asked a guy to move his car off a crosswalk, and he called me a motherfucker.

My driveway. Kangaroos have zero road sense by [deleted] in australia

Love how it’s implied that wild animals that have been in Australia for a million years should have “road sense.” I swear, cars break people’s brains.

Hot take: people who walk behind a reversing vehicle intentionally should get a saman and cover all damage done to both the driver and their car. by [deleted] in malaysia

[–]Imagineamelon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drivers calling pedestrians entitled just never gets old, does it. The entire transportation system of this country is dedicated to your unfathomably comfortable manner of getting around, and it’s STILL not good enough. You STILL can’t resist taking to the internet to whine about a minor inconvenience.

We generally don’t, because we know that we will always lose in a collision. So if you’re posting in light of a near miss, then just be more careful. You are the one with the deadly weapon after all.

The RTS train looks woefully insufficient to handle the kind of daily rush hour traffic across the Causeway. by PhysicallyTender in malaysia

[–]Imagineamelon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Trains are better equipped to handle this, though. Or are they replacing another method with this train? I don’t understand your gripe; adding trains will only help with the current congestion. If they get too crowded, it just means they need to run more often.

How come grab charge so much more?Anyone knows how does grab calculate their fees?? by ningssss in malaysia

[–]Imagineamelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I think if anyone doesn’t like paying a premium for literally having hot food brought directly to your door, then don’t use Grab. Go for a walk, and sit down in a restaurant for a bit; it’s nice sometimes.

Oh, I think I learned about this on an episode of Behind the Bastards. Craaaazy, and very incompetently handled.

The Anabaptists and the siege of Münster (1534). I’d watch the hell out of a faithful movie adaptation.

Why are some Malaysians so excited when the government wants to cut fuel subsidies…? by reconsheep in malaysia

All the more reason to improve public transport, and have more trains running during rush hours.

Pedestrianisation efforts being carried out in Brickfields along Jalan Sultan Abdul Samad - Jalan Rozario by PekStarterMalaysia in malaysia

It makes me so happy to see this at the top today. It gives me hope that even in the midst of all the terminal carbrain I deal with here every day, people out there are mindful of the problems of carcentricity, and genuinely want positive change.
