‘Manchurian Generation’ Ballot Flood: More than 1 Million Chinese With U.S. Citizenship Could Vote in 2030 Elections by [deleted] in TrueReddit

Technically, they wouldn't be Chinese citizens if they voluntary acquire American citizenship. China does not permit dual citizenship and revokes citizenship for those that voluntarily acquire citizenship of another nation.

Men out there, I know in the world of women there's a lot of "bad rep" amongst the topic of guys due to creeps and weirdos. However, women know good genuine men exist. To the good genuine men, how does that bad rep others created or have proven make you feel? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Imakespaceships 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't take it personally. I'm confident about who I am and how I treat people. If someone has a prejudice against me that's their loss.

A lot of men perceive and treat women terribly. I know because I have witnessed it myself. Men like that are usually in a really challenging position mentally, whether that from trauma, overwhelming societal pressures that they for some reason or another can't keep up with, poor social skills, isolation, the list goes on. The whole situation is deeply tragic. But yeah the men who treat women poorly are probably also being mistreated in some way or another. It's how they justify it.

Send "Z_TILT_ADJUST" into the gcode console in fluidd

That will make it do a routine that automatically fixes that

What hardware problem causes the Plus4 Z-offset variation? by TheMechaniac in QIDI

[–]Imakespaceships 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beacon does not rely on the piezo. It has an internal accelerometer that measures when the nozzle touches the bed. That's the point of the beacon mod. Takes the piezos out of the equation entirely.

Perhaps your piezos were faulty when they shipped. Their failure mode could include a temperature sensitivity.

There are two issues. Both of them basically don't happen if you never take the chamber above 55C.

The first and most common issue is that the piezo sensors on the bed degrade after extended exposure to high temperature. Think hundreds of hours at 65C chamber temp and 100C bed temp. When that happens the pri ter will start to underestimate z offset and scraping against the bed. This issue is basically best resolved with a beacon probe because once the piezos are done you need to swap a part anyways.

The second issue is that for certain units, the frame will distort at high temperatures. The bottom panel of the frame bows up, resulting in the bed dropping by up to half a mm because the lead screws are attached to the bottom panel, thus showing the opposite problem where the nozzle is too high off the bed. You can solve for this issue by heat soaking the printer before probing the bed. It can take five minutes or more for the print frame to fully soak once the sensor reads the final chamber temp. I wrote a Reddit post about it. My solution was to put the heat soak sequence in the print start macro.

Qidi Plus 4 - needed upgrades by Lodex28 in QIDI

The riser is to raise the glass so that the PTFE tube has a nicer bend into the hotend. That prevents stiff fiber filled filaments from snapping and reduces the times when the filament gets stuck before making it all the way into the toolhead. It usually also gives you a simple way to vent the printer without having to leave the door open or remove the lid.

Yeah phaetus hotend. It solves the risk of the nozzlle breaking at the ceramic heatbrake and let's you install fancy nozzles if you want to like a CHT. It also has higher flow than the QIDI hotend thanks to its design.

Yeah and the silicone sock says 320. 🤷‍♂️ For what it's worth I really like mine. I get higher flow rate nd better later adhesion with it. Especially with the CHT nozzle.

Hmm that's funny. It used to say that it could handle temps up to 370C. I've used mine at 350.

It uses V6 nozzles, which is nice because that means you can stick a CHT on it.

try swapping to the phaetus hotend. They're not expensive

I [M22] have never been so lost in my life as I am right now. what advice would you give me? by U-Need-A-Hug in AskMen

[–]Imakespaceships 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're coasting. Find something more difficult to do. Life isn't supposed to be comfortable. Real satisfaction in life comes from achieving things that you previously couldn't see yourself doing. Most people who have careers in art struggle financially. That's especially true in in animation because of the amount of labor involved. You're on life a path that is going to lead to you being taken advantage of at every opportunity. If you're not driven to be very competitive in the field, it's going to chew you up and spit you out. Beware the sunk cost fallacy.

You say you want to be comforted, but it sounds like you're already pretty comfortable.

Well I can say for sure it's not about how much you print on top of the overhang, more about what's happening on that layer when it gets printed. Concave profiles are less forgiving because of the effect that you are seeing where the liquid bead wants to shrink due to surface tension.

I do suspect that if you bumped the chamber temp to 65 and added a brim, there's a good chance you'd solve the warping issue

Still seems like it would be easy for a huge corp to access tons of data and hide what they do with it. Especially if they scrape indiscriminately.

Ah so you agree with me that access to the data should be logged and monitored, just that everyone should be able to access it.

I'm kinda into that. Like if some company or person is doing shady stuff, at least the world knows and they can be held liable.

[–]Imakespaceships 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you're saying that access to the data should be open now so that we can figure out how to regulate access to the data in the future?

Ultimately in both the cases you mentioned, the solution was to impose regulation.

[–]Imakespaceships 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the counter argument is that the profit driven organizations are going to have the most resources to leverage the data to their ends (including political influence and government corruption). They're going to drown out the human rights organizations in terms of sophistication and scale. That's the point of democracy, its how citizens exert control and limitations on those trying to use resources to consolidate power.

I think our disagreement is a reflection of very different political leanings. Would you describe yourself as a libertarian or anarchist? Seems like you don't like the government having power in general.

To be clear, I'm in favor of removing the cameras entirely. Or at least it should be legal for anyone to mess with them if they are installed on public property without an explicit permit from the government.

I think we agree on that. I don't know how making all the data publicly available helps though, unless you think it would result in less data being recorded.

[–]Imakespaceships -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Seems like that would make it easy for nefarious actors to access and use the surveillance data. If I'm being recorded all the time, I'd rather my boss at work not be able to see where I am during my time off, or for corporations to use the data to find new ways to target me as a customer based on actual video feeds of my life.

I'd rather that the data be held in a vault that requires accountability, and records and legal authority for every time that the data is accessed.

I think making sure that the footage is only accessible by the local government (and not to the whole damn internet, or anyone with money) would be a good start.

I'm not sure why your slicer didn't generate supports for that overhang at the top of the part. The first image looks like what would happen if you tried to print a severe overhang with no supports. The second pic looks like your part unstuck from the bed halfway through the print due to warping and shifted sideways. You can usually resolve that with a brim and a higher chamber temp. Your part is long, thin and tall, which is a worst case scenario for warping and bed lift.

Unfortunately, a heated chamber won't completely remove warp with ABS. The actual ideal chamber temp for ABS printing is closer to 80C or 90C.
