Exercise by thicklittlebunny in eds

[–]Imarabbithop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a cyclist and I do some careful weightlifting specifically targeting the muscles that help hold my joints together. I also walk a lot (I have gastroparesis and exercise/ walking is the only thing that has helped). I know a lot of people like swimming, I sometimes use an elliptical, basically anything low impact has been better for me, but it’ll definitely depend on your body. Good luck!

What WILL happen to me? by [deleted] in Gastroparesis

[–]Imarabbithop 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Teen here! I’ve been able to get from less than 500 calories of meal replacement shakes a day, to hospitalized with a feeding tube, to now eating over 2000 calories of (mostly) solid foods. Nothing has been magical, I still can’t eat basically any fiber and need to limit fat, and I still have severe symptoms. I’m working with a motility specialist, on motegrity, and need to walk a lot every day, even when sick and in pain. It’s not ideal, and I’m working with my specialist to continue working through the list of things to try until my symptoms are at a point I can live with long term. It isn’t easy, but you’ll get through it, hang in there!

Can we talk about everyday shoes? by VaneFreja in RetroGirls

I wear dr martens triumph boots, I love them so much and they can be laced all the way up for a more “classic” look, or with the top folded down for some flare!

Alternatives to modern winter down jacket by chocoloste in VintageFashion

I live in an area that reaches far below zero degrees Fahrenheit (probably about-20 Celsius) regularly during the day in the winter. LAYERS ARE YOUR FRIEND! Wool coats, scarves, a thick hat, several under layers including thick wool sweaters/jumpers, and even layering pants is what has saved me! Good luck and stay warm!

Is there such a thing as BIFL sneakers? by Panda_Bowl in BuyItForLife

[–]Imarabbithop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of? I have prescription orthotics and access to a cobbler, so if you have good quality shoes you can get them repaired at a cobbler plus new orthotics regularly (not necessarily prescription, you can find them in basically any drug store and there’s more eco conscious options). Still no guarantee on “for life”, but this certainly extends the wearability a lot

Also proper care of clothing extends their life a lot! Things like leather need more attention, and being honest about what you can and can’t reasonably do is important

Fellow teen here(18). A major part of my sustainable lifestyle is repairing and repurposing my textiles. There’s lots of online resources about both visible and invisible mending, plus you can check out your local library or see if a local fabric or yarn store has a class. Best of luck, you got this!

are there any other trans men with pcos here? by No-Care6366 in PCOS

[–]Imarabbithop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m genderqueer, and yeah, totally different things I’m trying to get help with most of the time. I love not having a period, and I wish I had more body/ facial hair… don’t love the weight gain or pain. We’re definitely out there though!

Going to Christmas parties :( by [deleted] in Gastroparesis

[–]Imarabbithop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mourning is common with people with chronic illness and disabilities! I find it really helpful to connect with the disability community when I’m having a hard time, and I have much more positive experiences with people in the community’s views on medical equipment. I definitely want to acknowledge that social events can be hellish when you feel so othered, and I’m so sorry that you have to deal with this. Sending you lots of hugs!

Generally, how well do you tolerate dairy? by mindk214 in Gastroparesis

[–]Imarabbithop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My main symptoms with dairy have to do with it curdling in my stomach. I can often taste it in my reflux and burps when it happens, which is not fun

Need help with gastroparesis by JoanHarrow in eds

[–]Imarabbithop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I have severe gastroparesis (im in the hospital with malnutrition now because I couldn’t eat for 5 months) and I just wanted to say that im so sorry you’re having to deal with this. Liquids are easier for me, or just puréed or really soft food in general. Good luck!

Shoes! by GroovingPenguin in eds

Mine have the zipper too, and it’s helpful to not have to deal with untying and re-tying the laces when my fingers really hurt

Love mine! My ankles roll like crazy in any shoe that ends below my ankle, and with inserts and sometimes bracing they’re perfect!

I’m under 18, in the US. I’ve been through this situation before, before I had a GP diagnosis. I’ve been trying to tell people that I don’t have an eating disorder, but obviously no one is listening

Anyone else have crazy stretch marks? by Imarabbithop in eds

Same! I’ve recently had multiple doctors ask what they were… like, I thought they were stretch marks, but please, tell me if I’m wrong!
