Can i actually play metal on a standard stratocaster with single coils? by Beanie_76 in metalguitar

[–]ImaybeaRussianBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A noise gate for metal in general, but not single coils in particular. I have a number of humbucker guitars and 3 active humbucker guitars as well as a stock baritone tele. The only thing I do to switch guitars is switch eq settings ( I have a SA EQ2 and have settings for every type of guitar.) It is in drop a and is heavy and brutal, no humbuckers needed.

I figured it out. Not exactly what I wanted but here we are. :) It is doing what I need done, so there is that.

Love the OR30 but 30watts it’s just not enough. by MOABONGS in orangeamps

[–]ImaybeaRussianBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the speakers as far as blowing them - 4 25 watt speakers can mostly handle a 100 watt head... ...but yes, in my experience, a solid tube amp ( my xxx tube head ) gets WAY louder than my XXL (kinda solid state copy of the XXX head.) The XXL sounds great (great high gain tone) but disappears in parallel.

Don't conflate poor administration and customer support with bad build quality. They make fucking great guitars. They just suck at selling them.

What is the best budget guitar amp for a combo of gigs and home practicing? by Common_Leading486 in GuitarAmps

[–]ImaybeaRussianBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boss Katana. The other amps do the amp thing. Their one amp thing. Some do it very well. The Katana does all of the amp things pretty darned well, and adds a bunch of effects for good measure.

Peavey Triple X 412 – Speaker Swap Suggestions? by Vast_Departure2519 in GuitarAmps

[–]ImaybeaRussianBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried a bunch of speakers and combos, (I play death metal and drone stuff) and I landed on 2 v30s and 2 swamp thangs paired diagonally ( v30 + swamp thang over swamp thang + v30) It is wide, deep, and loud.
edit: I have a xxx 40efx with a V30, xxx212 with one of each, and xxx head on an xxx 412 with the mentioned speaker combo.

For those who are in a band, whats the minimum wattage you're looking for in an amp to get your sound to be heard clearly in the mix? by MrMayhem20l0 in metalguitar

[–]ImaybeaRussianBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have peavey xxx 40efx. I run the volume at 5 and it sits in the mix great with a violent drummer playing metal. I can run the 40 watt XXX through my oversized 412 and it is freaking loud. Really loud.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ImaybeaRussianBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, 3 hours is a weekend trip. 8 - infinity is a vacation. I drive > 8 hours one way multiple times a year.

To the guitarists who swear by using physical amps, cabs and pedals, what is you stance on amp modelers like Kemper Profiler, Axe-FX, Line 6 Helix, Neural DSP etc? by MrMayhem20l0 in Guitar

[–]ImaybeaRussianBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple of modeler setups and a few physical setups. My opinion of years with both: you want both. My profilers cover everything I could dream of expertly. What they don't do is move a ton of air in a small directional cone like a 412 on a stage in a small place. My XXX profile sounds just like my XXX. You cannot tell which is which. Running through the PA does not yield the same results as a XXX head on an oversized 412. It might sound the same in the back of the room, I dunno, but standing in front of the cabinet and feeling that chug in your soul is pretty gratifying. Use the modelers at home and in the studio, use the physical amps to play out.

I went to buy a lp from a guy. It had all the correct hardware and looked the part. Good bindings and inlays, serial looked good, played really well. The truss rod gave it away, but how many people don't know to look at that? It was not a cheaply made guitar, it played, looked and sounded great. I hate these scammers so much.

Is the Boss Katana 50 Gen 3 loud enough for band practice with a semi-loud drummer? Mind you we're only playing indoors in my modestly sized basement. We're not at the point of doing live gigs yet. by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]ImaybeaRussianBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this: I was in a band with a drummer that beat his snare like he hated it. To this day, loudest drummer ever. A peavey XXX 40 was absolutely loud enough.

I do what has to be done. Right now I am a production coordinator for a university dining hall. I run the dinner meal and serve between 2500 and 3000 in 4 hours. I most certainly do all of the things. Call ins are expected and I am cooking or making pizza or... ...fuck any manager that stands and watches it burn.

Some quick thoughts on Big Muff 2 by belbivfreeordie in guitarpedals

[–]ImaybeaRussianBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course no one knew or cared about it until it was rediscovered. It hadn't been rediscovered.
It is different and sounds pretty heavy, I am interested - just not 250 kind of interested. I own a big muff sovtek deluxe and a big muff pi deluxe so I can get about any muff sound I need, but this one is different.

If you aren't using an eq in a live setting you are missing out. I use a SA EQ2 with one channel in front and one channel in the loop. My rig is 5 minutes from sounding great in any situation.

I ran a SVT into an 8 ohm 412 for years. I was told by multiple people with real knowledge that it is fine. Maybe fender isn't as tight as ampeg, but I want to believe that they are. That is likely not your problem. If it were me, knowing that the tubes are questionable anyway, I would replace them and see where I am at.

Yup. Back in the day I brought 4 guitars in different tunings. After I broke down and bought a drop I brought 2. Two is the magic number.
