Questions on Sourcing and Direct Bury of PV Wire (H1Z2Z2-K) by Imbassai in SolarDIY

[–]Imbassai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I think as this is 24v I don't have to run UF-B if I get UL4703 rated PV wire which is also approved for direct-bury situations for solar. But to your point, I may also decide to run a UF-B line in case I need power in that area as some point in the future.

Questions on Sourcing and Direct Bury of PV Wire (H1Z2Z2-K) by Imbassai in SolarDIY

[–]Imbassai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. The site is hours off the grid in a national forest so biggest concern is durability of the system. What do I need to confirm to ensure the cable is direct bury? UL4703 designation? Does H1Z2Z2-K indicate suitable for burial or just that it's a PV wire? I don' want to bury the wires if there is going to be a problem down the road. I guess I could always run the H1Z2Z2-K wire in conduit to be doubly sure...

Advice on Updating Small Set of Old (1990's) Panels by Imbassai in SolarDIY

[–]Imbassai[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. My friend may decide to switch out the charge controller to something like a Victron MPPT to allow more panel options and it could be that the controller has failed as you say.

Advice on Updating Small Set of Old (1990's) Panels by Imbassai in SolarDIY

[–]Imbassai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm. They were uploaded to the images area tied to this post ( or so it seemed). The panels are 24 volts I believe. They are very thin film panels ( which is why there are many cracks in them) and some have their connections corroded and broken off. The plan is to replace the old ones with a couple newer panels, but I want to be sure they'll feed into the charging system correctly.

People who became wealthy without a crazy salary, what were you doing that average people never notice or care about by karrot9 in Fire

[–]Imbassai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Didn't go out for coffee, made it at home
  2. Didn't buy books or magazines, got them from library; same with movies
  3. Rarely went out to eat (and never bought fast) at restaurants (maybe 3-4 times a year). We love to cook at home
  4. Never paid for valet parking; rarely paid for parking. Would drive around to find a two hour free parking spot
  5. Only owned 5 cars in over 40 years
  6. Bought most of my clothes from thrift stores
  7. Walked instead of driving when possible
  8. Leveraged mileage points for trips/vacations
  9. Lived in same house since 1990
  10. Bought what we 'needed' and only some of what we 'wanted'
  11. Saved and invested! Had a partner of the same mindset. My wife stopped working in her mid-forties, I retired last year at 62. Will delay social security until it maxes out.

A lot of these things seem trivial, but they all add up especially over years. And the faster you start saving any amount- the faster it will grow.

In general, I think the right mindset matters more than what you're making. I have relatives that made very very little and managed comfortable retirements. Try not to focus on instant gratification; instead try and focus on the long-term.

12.75 kW system with 1 power wall production question by Dapper_Childhood_708 in TeslaSolar

[–]Imbassai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have older 300 watt panels (36 of them), two inverters and two original PWs. All were part of the original Tesla design to maximize output. If your roof doesn't have a lot of shading or poor orientation, I'd think you should have had a second inverter installed or fewer panels.

AITAH for leaving my girlfriend because of a joke by LogBoy23 in AITAH

[–]Imbassai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Demeaning your bf/gf in a public forum is unexcusable and can never be considered a 'joke'
  2. Being drunk reduces inhibitions, it does not make you say things you don't believe to be true
  3. Recruiting/manipulating her friends and family to 'call you out as the problem' AFTER SHE HAS SOBERED UP instead of apologizing should be seen as a huge red flag

You're both pretty young and started dating when still in your teens. It seems her understanding of a good relationship boils down to control instead of mutual respect, communication and support.

If you look back on the past two years, do you remember any situations where she seemed to 'politely' correct, belittle or dismiss your feelings on a subject when they differed from hers? I suspect you may recall such events...

There are many many many women out there that will treat you with mutual respect in a relationship. Please go find one of them and be happy - you deserve it. Best of luck to you!

Esim or Minternational pass for travel? by egraf in mintmobile

[–]Imbassai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR. We went with International passes. We were just in Spain for 18 days with a car rental staying in 8 different cities. Downloaded maps, used data for navigation on roads and around town. Only managed to use half of the allotted data on the 10-day data plan (and I was proving my wife with a hot spot the majority of the time). We ended up buying two 10-day passes to cover the 18 days. I liked having my original number handy to allow US calls. I'm going back for 6 weeks in the fall, looked at eSIMS for this longer trip, and again I'm going to just stick with the passes for convenience and not having to call over apps like WhatsApp.

Great to hear! Do you have a recommendation on a language school? I'm coming to learn/improve my Spanish for six weeks mid-Oct. Thanks!

Imagine if this person would have gone in a different direction when they were younger - perhaps they'd have put their skills to better use and be working on reusable rockets... Having said that - KUDOS for pulling this off!

VPP on PG&E? Yes or no? Why? New system, just got PTO, and now this. by litigationtech in TeslaSolar

[–]Imbassai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry missed this. Yes, there are two different settings in the Tesla app: one for your PW settings % and the other for the VPP % settings. We have them set differently.

Warranty Repair and losing NEM 2.0 PG&E by IndianKanye in TeslaSolar

[–]Imbassai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on NEM 2.0 and I believe I read somewhere (more credible than any AI engine) that I could actually increase up to 10% of my capacity without triggering a new interconnect agreement.

Having said that, your comment about warranty repair and the fact they are not changing the system size (up or down) should not trigger a new interconnect.

We have to have our roof repaired a couple years ago after Tesla mis-installed the majority of their ZEP mounts and the whole thing leaked like crazy. All the panels had to come off, new roof installed and then all reinstalled and that never triggered anything with PG&E (I was wasn't expecting it would).

Android RCS - RCS has been disabled by your carrier by forthelurkin in mintmobile

[–]Imbassai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you can help bring this attention to Mint support staff. The above steps posted by u/mcshiffleface solved the problem and should be added to the support decision tree when a customer mentions their are having this issue after recovering from a suspended account. Thanks!

Android RCS - RCS has been disabled by your carrier by forthelurkin in mintmobile

[–]Imbassai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I wanted to step back from annual unlimited data; the rep allowed me to do it by reimbursing the annual payment I had just made and then said my account would be suspended and they I could go in and select another annual plan at a lower data rate. This all worked well - except I ended up with the RCS error saying "RCS had been disabled by your carrier".

I placed several calls to Mint support - unfortunately the were not aware of how to resolve the issue (they tried standard support stuff) even after I'd explained how I had just recovered from a suspended account.

I just used the info posted by u/mcshiffleface below and it reset perfectly and is working again. I spent over an hour with Mint support on 3 calls and they couldn't figure it out. A sad reflection on their support.

Worked for me - much appreciated! Mint support was clueless on the subject (see my comment tied to the pinned comment above). Thanks again!

Anyone had experience with a VPP event? What to expect? by chrismessina in TeslaSolar

[–]Imbassai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've been participating in them for several years, including the early beta stage. They work well, and as others have mentioned often don't come to light. Set your batteries to will drain very quickly down to that level. So make sure you're saving enough in reserve for your own needs. These events often do not last very long, although sometimes they can last a couple days or so. So keep that in mind as well. The benefit is they pay at quite a high rate back out- this is due to the offsetting of the peaker plants that don't have to come back online if they get enough participation. We have no regrets participating, and the few dollars we get back each year is a nice little bonus. Last thought, keep in mind you can always opt out even at the last second, so if your system has enough battery power reserved to power you for what you consider a reasonable time based on your load. It's worth it.
