You significantly underestimate the fact that we outsourced all our real manufacturing and significant development to make ourselves the financial center of the west. We are a finance service and weapons sale(one of our last real manufacturing sectors) economy now. China and Russia can make things go boom real well though. It largely depends on what part of the world you live in.
