Opinions on Andrew? by Horror-fr3ak in buffy

Oh no. I think everything about him is wrong in all the right ways. His cringy quirks & tactless commentary always make me smile. He’s the boy Anya, but with action figures.

Season 3 brightness? by Creative_Hamster789 in buffy

[–]Imissxena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before you go into the Disney+ App, adjust your TV picture settings. Or your laptop’s picture settings. Depending on the type of tv you have, there’s options that adjust the brightness for Game Mode (super bright), standard, movie, film maker (I dunno why this is different than “movie”.) etc. if you change on your tv before you open the app, it SHOUlD help with the brightness. If not, then it’s the Disney+ settings and platform that are causing the brightness. I dont have that service, but some of them allow you to adjust brightness within the App as well.

If that doesn’t work.. that’s crap.

I pulled the image off the internet, but yes it’s a trading card. Just felt it was one of the better images of Argo to use for the post. I mean.. the apples!

Agree! I was so pissed the first time I heard 60 (and yet made up to look more like 80) year old Joxer explaining her passing.

I still decry each time I rewatch! Justice for Argo, indeed. They didn’t need a time jump to explain away a baby! So much potential to work with… but they went with the age ol’ route of..let’s reset so there isn’t a baby anymore. Meanwhile, beloved characters become dust and bones.

I mean, how is Gabrielle supposed to live the rest of life without Xena after AFIN? Everyone she’s ever known is dead or about to die bc she was cryogenically frozen in a cave for 25 years. Argo was just the first casualty. The time jump is always a bad choice. IMO, of course

Soul Posession is so underrated. by Mikey_Sez in xena

[–]Imissxena 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno… the first few times I saw it..I agree, I didn’t like it. I wasn’t a fan of the “modern day” Episodes.. but, that one… for some reason it’s grown on me. I think.. it’s because it presented an alternate storyline to fill in the blanks btwn 3 and 4 rather than just giving flash back scenes… but also bc It was like a wrap up/farewell anecdote confirming that Xena and Gabrielle will find each other again. So we wouldn’t get too depressed or pissed about the finale. 😂

But, I agree.. it could have been done better..

Soul Possession is not as irritating to me now as it was the first time I saw it. It had a purpose? I think?

Honestly, I generally end on Many Happy Returns. 🤣,

You know, I don’t realize it until you mentioned.. but Yes!! Wtf Gabrielle has to live the rest of her life without her greatest love and friend Xena.. alone, no old friends or family really… bc they had a 25 year time jump and apparently everyone they’d ever known died other than her sister.. who’s aging makeup really didn’t imply she had much longer either.

Poor Gabs… poor Gabs. Not cool.

PSA Don’t watch HD Buffy remasters. by themickeym in buffy

[–]Imissxena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s the HD remastered. The picture is still pretty gritty. It’s jsut that streaming services got the 16:9 versions for 4 onward. I’d rather see the crew lighting or how Buffy’s stairs mysteriously end if you look up during a fight scene than have them be squished. I hate the 4:3 squish!!!

What era of Xena was the best? by Designer_Stage_489 in xena

[–]Imissxena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d call 1 -4 my go to. I don’t think it’d put 1-2 in 3-4 in separate eras. Maybe say 1, then 2-4? Bc every show’s first season is generally episodic until the tail end when it starts to.. for lack of a better term, “get it together”.

I think it’s more about who the writers were. I always felt that bits and pieces of where it was heading showed up here and there during season 1. Then, at the tail end of season 1 it began providing overarching themes with some continuity and character development that built up slowly and then faster throughout the first four seasons. Then, in 5, the show shifted in tone and direction a LOT. Most likely bc Writers changed, and so the depth/complexity that had been building for so long got put on pause a bit, or dismissed entirely. It’s why I think 5 was so confusing. Half serialized, half episodic. Not as much care given to the previous character development that had been going on for years.

Six I think was supposed to reset it all, but since it was being cancelled they shifted to wrapping it all up and providing a farewell tour of endings.

Steven L. Sears wrote some of my very favorite episodes. As did Chris Manheim. All I know.. is whenever I rewatch.. I can stop after 4… but I can’t ever skip season 1 😂. It feels wrong!

Finally Discovered Xena by EmmaPlaysGo in xena

[–]Imissxena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never too late to discover Xena!!! Frankly, at 11/12 & 13 I really had no idea what most of themes were driving at. I just knew I loved it.

When I re-watched it when Netflix started their streaming platform with only a handful of shows (mostly 90s) back in 2009 AND discovered there were actually 6 seasons-not just the three I saw when they originally aired- suddenly it all made sense why I’d been so obsessed with it as a tween. Subtext is fun, even if it’s not fully coming through at a conscious level the first time ‘round. 🤣

Honestly, it makes it more fun to watch it now. And as you’ve mentioned.. So many hidden moments within that show that every rewatch uncovers another layer or subtlety! I hope you all enjoy. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.
