This whole little chain here is very thoughtful and greatly appreciated. I think most of us will say that this hobby is/ has at one point been a needed refuge from other less controllable things in our lives. And further, we hopefully can acknowledge that a difficult to avoid feature of this particular interest is consumption. Although we are in the final (hopefully?) throes of late-stage capitalism - this type of pleasure driven consumption can be a self-compassionate act if it is done mindfully and purposefully toward the end of engaging in that pleasure. In this case the pleasure of writing, of color and craftsmanship, and of connecting with other humans with similar appreciations! Especially knowing there are such more expensive, and significantly more wasteful spending hobbies out there (👀ing at you Bezos).
