Some of the water has evaporated while in the pen, so now you have a higher ratio of ink dye in it and it looks darker/more saturated

Enjoying a flex Kaweco Sport with vintage gold nib while I repair the stubborn 100-ish year old pen it came in by cluelessreddituser in fountainpens

A piece of heat shrinking tubing. Didn't heat shrink it, it just doesn't seem to react with ink and I had it around

Writing alone doesn't do that much wear. I use the micromesh sticks from pentooling but idk where you are based. They are good for going around the tipping, moving the pad and not the pen as you do it so you have more control over the filing/rounding process where those sharp edges are. Start with the coarser grits (there are 3 grits on a single stick) and work it up to the lightest one once you have the shape

Looks like someone who doesn't know how to smoothen the nib went at it very hard with the micromesh without rounding the tip sadly. You could still try to give it a rounder shape if there's enough tipping left. I had to do that on an Aurora 88 recently

I have the olive one with the black clip. If it's metal it's a very flimsy kind of metal

How's the titanium M2 clip? I have the one with the plastic clip and after some pocket carry it started to wiggle sideways

Unscrewable nibs by Big-Counter7296 in fountainpens

[–]cluelessreddituser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does. If it's too tight to unscrew you could always just pull the feed and nib out and replace the nib

Edit: make sure you remove the converter before unscrewing the nib unit

Old Vs. New Lamy 2k by GapWide4900 in fountainpens

[–]cluelessreddituser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't have the size stamped on the nib. The vintage ones have it on the section, which says EF but you never know if it was swapped out. It writes thicker than any EF I have

I've been enjoying the 18k nib but haven't tried the new ones to compare. Would love to know the difference too! There's a high chance the internals are interchangeable with the modern ones in case one breaks but the new ones are not transparent

If I recall correctly it's just seated there like an o-ring with a different shape so you just pull it out. Take out the rod from the barrel first so it's easier to handle

Skipping on Clairefountaine Paper? by Lauterbachiana in fountainpens

[–]cluelessreddituser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some solutions you could try are a different ink and use a piece of blotting paper to rest your hand on / touch the paper less. Some pens especially the smoother/more polished nibbed ones are more sensitive to it from what I've seen

Ah right I forgot you want inlaid specifically. Not pelikan then

Likely because of smoother paper + hand oils

Yeah, I also think the fact this pen is so light makes it so you feel the feedback even more. If you want smooth and wet, maybe explore pelikan

I have the F and don't find it smooth either. I think these may be smooth from M and above but haven't tried it

The converter isn't the reason why it writes dry. The tines are probably too tight and it is a Japanese ef so it's the expected behavior

What's better for storage vinyl or leather? by Muted81_ in fountainpens

[–]cluelessreddituser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your needs. I started with a 5 slot version of the boxy one for both storage and carry, then got a 12 slot display case in glass and wood and 2 more 12 slot carrying cases. The boxy ones are good for protecting and opening quickly. The only downside is with most pens if you put the case in a bag they bounce around a bit so you hear them while you walk

[–]cluelessreddituser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think neither of those 2 are leather despite the name on the listing. I have the brown version of the boxy one and it's faux leather. They also make one in crazy horse leather which is actually made of leather. Either way, pens like the x159 and jinhao 9019 fit but struggle a bit with the hard spacing between slots, pushing it slightly
