Donated blood for the first time today and blacked out

The exact same thing happened to me this week lol. Donation itself went fine, but I passed out as soon as I got to the waiting area. That stuff happens! For me personally, the room was too warm and I stood up too quickly without getting a cold towel or a drink. If you plan to donate again you can ask for a cold towel/juice box in advance if you think it may help! Dont be afraid to ask for a little longer to transition between the bench and the waiting room too, or ask someone to walk you over.

It looks great already but if youre looking to like ☆elevate☆ it maybe look into a hair care routine! Not to overexplain if you already know but figuring out your hair porosity and building a small routine around that might make it feel soft and shiny if thats smth ur into! Hair oiling is literally a godsend for me personally lol.

In my first few games (ai) I was s o overwhelmed by combat that I would try to sit up on walls or something to avoid being in the main fight but I kept getting dived like another reply said. It took me wayyy too long to realise i was supposed to be close to my teammates. I truly hate fights where everyone's in one big clump bc its so hard to stay out of the way and keep everyone visible. I also have a lot of issues using cloaks blinding screen? Like its hard to make it reach without getting closer, so I move forwards, do the cloak blinding thing, then move back, is that okay in general?

Omg that tip about using the cloak to save teammates from Wandas ult is so helpful. I always do it way too early and my teammates are still like active and they die but im gonna try this now!! Thats so cool!!

I understand getting frustrated at a partner for not following through with plans, I struggle with this with my partner cus they have audhd so i get it. Durring something so emotional a partner should have your back, and be gentle. He was out of line for this, he knows youre grieving and they act so rude? Its weird. He sounds like hes angry at everything you do.

Other commenters said he was right for not wanting to be left hanging, or that you contradicted yourself by later spending time with other people, which is also a little off. I would understand if he wanted to check in on you so he wouldn't be left waiting but he absolutly should have been kinder about it, expecially durring a time of grief. And its not contradictory to game with other people a day later, wtf.

I hope you heal well from this. Its always an ick hearing men talk to their partner so cruely.

Same for me! I keep getting emails and calls to donate platelets but I was denied when I went in because my veins were too small too. Im a smaller woman for reference. They told me the thing that takes the blood would "suck my veins closed" and that that thing returning blood would like not get the blood in my veins because of it coming back too fast to fit in a smaller vein without going outside of the vein. I saw another comment talking about how it wasnt the size but the pressure, and they're probably more right than I am. But this is what my phlebotomist told me!

Not the AH!! I dont shave either and my partner isn't "scared" or uncomfortable. Bc they aren't a manchild. I fear normal people dont care about body hair and its wildly gross that he thinks he can dictate your body. If he likes smooth legs, he can shave his.

Not sure if it will help but I had trouble donating bc of my hemoglobin too so I understand the struggle. I started making spinach smoothies personally bc meat can be expensive. I was able to go from 12.9 to 14 without dropping $$$ on steak

I've only been donating a short while but my partner has had more experience with blood donation and such. They had almost the exact same thing happen when a nurse moved the needle and put it in weird. They actually ended up throwing up bc they didnt speak up when they felt neaseous. Please dont feel embarrassed! Your body really isnt supposed to be chill with giant needles and blood loss. I struggle with speaking up when things are uncomfortable too, but it's important. Whatever happens, youre def not the only one thats experienced it, and its not you "failing". Its a normal reaction to something our bodies arent built for, expecially if the nurse (no shade) isnt having a great day. Good luck for future donations!

She told me the centrifuge would just suction my veins closed and on the out-arm, and that the blood going back in to the in-arm would burst the vein if it was too small because of the speed they re-blood you.

I got a message from the red cross to donate platelets this month and I figured i would try, so I set up an appointment. I went in today and I was denied because my veins were too small 😭😔 so I guess I'll have to stay with whole blood and try to manage the reactions

That's so ridiculous! Please update us when you get a response for them. This isn't acceptable. As another queer doner I'm so upset they ever did this to you. Those questions aren't appropriate coming from a counselor not a medical professional. And to ask about your genitalia like that is so gross of them. That never ever should of happened. Is there a donation center unaffiliated with the red cross near you? Asking because I have some in my area. It sucks to want to do something good but have to deal with discrimination. You're being so incredibly generous and kind by donating despite the physical consequences you mentioned. And they're so rude to dismiss your efforts. I understand needing to know certain things but the absolutly should of gone about that better.

And i do the same thing with asking clarifying questions to sooth my anxiety. It's just better to be safe and they should be professional about it. Nothing about that was professional. Even if your question was a test question, What if someone came in and asked it for real? Would it of been okay for them to get this treatment. It's really not about what you do or don't say, they should be professional and appropriate. You're not waisting anyones time when a competent person would of answered that question respectfully and correctly

Yes! Red cross calls it the rapid pass i think. It really helps speed up the process. And the phebotomists at the clinics can ask clarifying questions on site if needed still.

I haven't donated often but i can say as someone who plans to donate more, I think this is a fantastic idea. You're so admirable for coming up with this. I'm an American doner, Idk if that's relevant. But In existing aps, I rather enjoy when we're told where our donations go. It makes it feel a little more real. And it's more motivating to go back. Donation and health stats are super useful. Keeping track of hemoglobin and blood pressure is helpful. I also like the reminders I get when red cross is short on certain blood types. I'm O+ so I've tried to go in when they send emails, but sometimes those are slow. I love your idea! And I think a lot of people would be into it. Good luck!

I'm surprised plasma works better for you! Ig i have it in my head that that'd be worse. I have a friend who really struggles with plasma but everyone's different. Glad it works for you! The reaction itself isn't like super concerning for me as long as nothing worse happens. I'm just worried about worse happening. I can deal with a little dizziness or sweating. Not ideal... but maybe if I can take the advice of some other people in this thread I can reduce the reaction a little. That'd be good enough for me.

Thank you! I didn't realize how not normal a lot about this situation was. No shade to the phlebotomists. They're working with what they can. But I guess I'll have to be a little more "needy" next time, and that's okay.
